kepler: My 8.6Kw FIREMAN Generator can not charge my 3.5KVA Inverter with 4 batteries
Please explain why?

Your Generator is not carrying enough load, try to add more load for it balance well before it can charge your Invater. I use to have similar problem with my 0.6KVA invater. Try to put on your Fridge and if possible AC when you on your Gen. Contact me on 080918337772.

ceejay80s: 4 days ké ?! If i get 4 days of constant lìght to fully charge the battery ,i no go need inverter.e no make sense be dat, i hardly get
1hr of light a day. God purnish nepa

That's the limitation of UPS for such application and funnily enough, some inverter are built on that technology.

I luckily stumbled into dis thread, are u sure an apc 650 ups can charge a 100ah battery? If it will, how many hours wil it take to fully charge?
I asked a battery charger and he said its imposible, i know u are more educated than he is but what of experience? Can u pls explain. Wont it over heat the apc 650va ups and set my face2face room on fire while i'm not at home? Pls reply
Thanks

Yes it can charge 100ah battery, I use 650ups with 200ah battery and it works fine for my Electronics only, if you see who can covert it for you very well, and it depend on how PHCN brings light to ur area and you can aswell charge it with any Gen. Set, u don't have any problem at all it will work perfectly fine, when my battery fully charged I use it for 10Hurs and its just 1 battery but u can aswell join the battery if you have more to extend your hours like + to + and - to - to add more hours to it...

To all engineers in this thread who are interested in producing their own Pure Sine Wave Inverters. With the listed features
1. Pure sine wave output.
2. Controlled charging current.
3. Overload, short-circuit, low battery, and battery full protection.
4. 20by4 LCD display for inverter status.
5. Fast switching speed from inverter to mains and vice versa.

Many more other functions, the package includes, PCB, circuit diagram and hex file.
The design board can be used for inverters in the ranges of 0.5kva to 10kva.

Those interested in aquiring the design should contact me through 08059977236 or mailpapsawo@yahoo.com

NO, it will not, your best bet will be to connect the system through a stabilizer or step up transformer, depending on the output voltage in question.

Mosfet can only enhance the current carrying capability.
a big thanks

dsunmade: My Sukam 1.4 kva doesn't charge with generator but charges with NEPA. What's the solution?
Can one use APC online UPS as stabilizer?

I once had a similar problem, get a good mechanic to service your generator and fine-tune it setting such that its output frequency is steady or normal 50Hz.

Rather than automatically switch to inverter power when ever gen or phcn power goes out...my inverter sometimes gives a loud overload warning beep and i have to turn it off and back on. This happens say 1 out of 5 times... and it happens even when I have just standing fan and just an 11watt

the overload warning beep also comes on sometimes when I turn on the socket powering my TV, Decoder and home theatre. Similar to the previous instance, I just turn off the inverter and back on.

@dsunmade,
what is the capacity of your inverter and generator?your gen capacity must be greater than inverter's.besides, what brand of inverter is it?

Hello, your inverter static switch is either faulty or it's control circuit is not functioning properly, hence it sometimes shorts the output to the ground.

@OP, thanks for ur time and response,
I've been using inverter for over three yrs and within those yrs I've changed batteries twice. The first was due to my error, charged it with gen for about one full month before they brought light. Bought two new 200Ah batteries (dry cell) from the same company, this one served us well, though the highest output we got from it at any time was abt 7hrs (had abt 10 energy saving bulbs, two decoders, an Lcd and one home theatre). When the output started dropping to like 2-3hrs, I decided to change it, but getting a new one from the company was too expensive 65k times 2. One of the engineers adviced me to buy wet cell (trailer battery) that the only maintenance it needs is acid change. We couldn't get a 200Ah acid battery, so we bought 150Ah instead (for our new house). The first one month of usage was wonderful. The output at one time was over twelve hrs (my security light was always on, and all the energy saving bulbs in the house is over 16,18 to be precise) we traveled for two weeks, came back and the output started dropping, now the highest output u can get is 2hrs. We've changed the acid, took the batteries out to charge but it's still the same thing. We tried changing the cells, but the battery guy insisted there was nothing wrong with them, and that the battery is still very good (it's just three months old), my wife is of the opinion that the inverter is not charging well, but I disagree. What can we do to get back to the good old days of 10hs output? (Inverter: Emel, 1.5kva)
Re: All your Inverter problems by tornwa: 7:14pm On Dec 10, 2013
Hello I have a 1.4kva brighton inverter system with 2, 200amh batteries, I ve used it for about 8months and service is really ok when its fully charged, but about 2 months ago, the on/off switch stopped working and the inverter now is permAnently on and discharges the battery even when all load is comPletetly disconnected, I informed the installer (rehoboth ideal tech ltd,), they sent a technician who checked the system and said the mother board was faulty and needed to be changed, up till now they are yet to fix it,and the system keeps shouting when the battery is drained,I don't like the battery been down cos I know it will damage them, I need ur help on what the problem is and if possible a place where I can get it. Though its still under waranty but I don't think I can continue to wait for the company to come and fix it. Am sure the money I ve spent calling them would have solved the problem long time ago. Your help will be duely appreciated, thank you

Thank you very much. I suppose I should report this to the company that supplied it as it is still under warranty.

what is the make of your inverter? Did you leave the batteries on full charge or flat when you traveled?

Please people, to avoid all kinds of battery problem, buy inverters that have 'cc cv' charging features. These features give the batteries the best treatment that they need. Google it.

The inverter is 'EMEL'. The battery was fully charged. I put it off from the mains, put everything in the house off and left the change over on Nepa.

What is the model and mech of your inverter? Some inverter have a switch to select either smf battery nor tubler, check if your have and select tubler. Though normal motor battery cannot give you what you want cox those inverter batteries are specially made. Thanks.

Some batteries are designed to withstand a prolong discharge, that is, deep cycle and some provide momentarily energy like those for automobiles and kick starters .
The battery technician probably does not know what he is saying, batteries, most times do not just die instantly but gradually.
On the other note, your inverter could be the culprit here and you should not be allowing your batteries to drain completely before recharge irrespective of what, 50% discharge before recharge is ok for your battery life .

Thanks dear. I was surprised at some issues people are having with their inverters with all the awareness so far, I guess there are many substandard products in the market and unsuspecting buyers are really falling for them.

The only unknown is what happened while you were away. Maybe the inverter fried the batteries by overcharging them. When you were around maybe the inverter did not have the chance to overcharge the batteries because you might have used them. Was the inverter plugged in to Nepa when you left home?

A good inverter should have an over-charge protection, his presence shouldn't have made a difference.
