fowowe411: I give up on you. Can't you make your points clear without attacking my personality? I can see you are a free-thinker indeed.Well I refuse to be intimidated by this your choice of words btw it is a free point. The main thing is you can't understand a simple write-up.what is in philosophy that I don't know? I did philosophy for over 2 good semesters as a borrowed course no doubt the course is rich in knowledge but my point here is what's the demand rate for them in a country like Nigeria?.All am saying is govt should cut the rate at which these people are being admitted.
if my words looked so cussed to you am very sorry for that.

You said u did philosophy for almost 2 semesters and you are claiming you know it all in philosophy am sorry to tell you that you know nothing about philosophy

Philosophy is a course a student would study and would never regret in his life

I love philosophy

well,I didn't say that was all the important courses! The problem I have with majority here is they probably don't understand the part where I used '....most likely....'. I'm not surprised anyway,it's the Nigerian education system!

By their seed you shall know them.....
i understood you clearly....you didnt understand yourself maybe....First you said some courses give a slimmer chance...yes thats true...but then you didnt mention BANKING AND FINANCE or ACCOUNTANCY or GEOLOGY and yet you mentioned LINGUISTICS or MASS COMMUNICATION...and you talk about slimmer chances (which by the way is true)......and you said another that any courses not listed in the 7 was definitely imposed on people because they didnt pass the cut off mark......come off your high horses bro........people have been applying for geology and banking and finance since 1980s in Nigerian universities.....and please tell me anu school that offers BANking and finance as a supplementary course or Geology

The fact that I'm not yet in school doesn't mean my post does not make sense. You also are not yet a graduate so you do not have any after-school experience, then we are still in the same category considering this discussion!
Yes! I did say other things! I also said 'any course apart from the ones listed below will most likely be among them.

Read that and digest it then come back here to say whose post is silly!

hmmmmm. An undergraduate/graduate for that matter!

I can't help laughing out loud. cheesy

We all have different missions, visions, callings and tallent. All courses are worth studing, all u need do is to study the one one that u will b fufilled in. The mistakes we all makes is that we aim at going to skl so as to a good job n a good job, there is more to that than just studying a course.

caye: 1. Russian
2. International relations
3. Agric econs and extension
4. Human kinetics
just go to UI. Dem plenty.

To Mr Caveman and others
u mentioning the below aforementioned courses as useless and irrelevant shows your dim-witted reasoning sorry to say. If u really studied in UI and u dont know the importance that the city of Ibadan places on Agricultural related courses, then methinks u dont have any idea of what u r saying here.
I did my college education in Ibadan and even i knew the 'rep' people who read these courses get. Ibadan has more than 6 agricultural world class research institutions amongst which are
IITA - International institute of Tropical agriculture
CRIN_ Cocoa research institute of Nigeria
NISER- National institute of social economic research
FRIN - Forest research institute of Nigeria
IAR & T
amongst others
My younger sister had A1's in agric and economics and B3's in all other subjects for her WAEC. instead of her joining the flock to apply for med and surgery, i adviced her to study agric econs in a federal uni in the east which she did and graduated with a high 2:1. she was lucky to serve in Ibadan and then posted to NISER where she did research for her NYSC (no one influenced this). After service, she got an EU scholarship to do a double mastERS degree in agric bioengineering, environmental policy and development economics...she is in europe and from all indications she aint coming back as there are so many ph.d studentships, scholarships and jobs for people who studied courses with agricultural content in their field and are passionate about it.
The most important thing is wherever/whatever u study, create a roadmap for urself and most IMPORTANTLY, think far....Dont let naija be the limit of ur thinking/horizon. There r scholarships/opportunities for every course in europe if u package urself properly
.Google erasmus mundus masters courses and u ll see scholarships/opportunities for all courses
Its so unfortunate that in naija that due to the underdevelopment of so many industries and the man-know-man mentality people who sweat reading courses like human kinetics, polymer and textile engineering etc will end up in a bank or having to start business because the industries where they wouldav put whatever they garnered in school is virtually non existent.

Make i yearn more as i gat free time on my hands for now grin.Take for example a guy/chick who reads Food science, microbiology, animal science, soil science etc and finishes with a 2:1 and then goes on for his NYSC in kano. If u wanna package urself internationally for masters scholarship application, it starts from NYSC. Dont go joining groups for CDS like road safety etc which are 'useless' (u are allowed to use this word here only smiley ) ; instead look out for UNICEF, HIV/AIDS, anti Women trafficking, MDG'S (renowned world bodies) and make sure u take it serious and follow it bumper to bumper and at the end of ur NYSC, have an official of one of these NGO's write a strong letter of recommendation for you saying u undertook voluntary work (u can sweeten it by saying u chose to give back to the society bla bla bla) and then with your 1 year experience/service in a college (instead of saying you taught biology, you can put 'a college lab scientist') -- This is packaging..... ... (Packaging is important,,its why most of us will pay to watch Thor in cinemas while we have our own Sango and amadioha rotting away with low patronage grin )
along with ur TOEFL which you should write while doing your NYSC as this is the best time to write it when u v time and FG money in ur hands, u r good to go to apply for the following below..they r all called erasmus mundus masters courses..there r so many more but this s what i could dig up
http://sites.wageningenur.nl/en/emsanf.htm
http://emfoodoflife.eu/
https://www.jyu.fi/en/studywithus/programmes/emsep
http://www.master-imacs.org/
http://sutrofor.eu/

With expensive phnes most of y'all carry around, try and utilize it optimally by googling and doing research..a friend of mine who finished from UNIUYO was complaining about lack of opportunities in her course to study abroad..I told her that 'do u know that UNIUYO is the only university in naija that has an agreement with NTNU (Norwegian university of sciience and technology) which is the topmost university in Norway for free masters and scholarship admission in the whole of naija.Check the following link below . there is a quota specifically allocated just for students who graduated from UNIUYO
http://www.ntnu.edu/studies/ntnu-s-cooperation-agreements

I also think there is laziness of some nigerian gradautes, i wonder why someone who read a course like international relations, linguistics, english language, mass communication etc would not take out time to study or pay for language courses in french, german etc. If i read any of the above courses apart from scholarships and all, i would be thinking of working for the United Nations, UNDP and all. (b4 u can work for any of these international NGO'S u must know a second language apart from english language)
LEARN TO THINK BIG, IT DOESNT MATTER WHEREVER YOU ARE.MAKE THE MOST OF WHAT U HAVE and no one will see ur back
Sorry for the long letter;i sometimes 4get myself though i m taking an example from my ogas at the top in the art of letter writing grin grin grin

2buff: To all #TeamNoDegreeIsWorthless,

You have to understand that there is an extra dimension to these things.
You may like something, but is it worth spending that much money and 4 years of your life to get a degree out of it if it has no prospects of putting food on your table....ESPECIALLY as you don't come from wealth and have to earn your living like anyone else?

If you like dancing...do your own research on it. Join dance classes to develop your style(The people who teach the dance classes don't need degrees, they just have to show you they can dance for you to believe them), Join/create a dance crew, etc. It makes no sense throwing that much money at a school for a BA in Dance or what not.

Do you know some of the best actors are those who had other active life plans?

Given my OP on Women's Studies, a person like that would be better off just taking Psychology because then they are versatile enough to be used in the same and much broader fields (e.g Marketing) if you end up not dealing specifically with women.

A lot of these mistakes I would say, are due to schools.
Schools don't give a shiiit. They just want your money and they will sell you whatever false hope you need to hear to take that money from you.

A lot of their "success stories" are mostly people who got there by reason of their contacts and God's grace, not in particular the weird degree the school is trying to sell to you.
It is left to you being sharp and doing your own research of the world and it's needs. Which is why I generally suggest folks take some time to travel if they can before starting uni, at least those that can.
guy u just penned it down well. I wonder why stdnts go dey read sociology, religion, igbo language, sociology. Nonsense

in a matter as subjective as this, i usually take the common ground. But honestly, some of this courses were imposed on us. Without the applicant opting for it in the first place .

Hmmmmmmmm!!! Seriously no course/degree is a waste as long as it is passion driven..i once saw an agric extension graduate in a bank and was wondering wtfvck?! Go to a university, acquire knowledge and not just think of the money you‘ll earn, but the services you‘ll render to humanity....“a goal without a plan is only a dream“ if you plan well with your -yoruba studies- degree....you‘ll surely go places!! #TEAMRX#

After all the arguments and explanations, how many of those who criticised it are still here wasting their time. Come on bro, you're an undergraduate.

Since you still can't comprehend the post and you sound more civil this time, let me just explain it a bit.

I wrote that courses not among the ones I listed will most likely be among those that give limited chances in the labour market, this means that there may be some other courses apart from the ones mentioned which ought to be included but based on my knowledge those are the ones I could put down.
I also started by saying that I didn't think any course was useless. Now,looking at the whole thing,is there any part that is incorrect or baseless
If you really understood the post, you would just say that Geo sciences and some other courses should be included and not that the post is senseless! I hope you get it now.

BTW,your being an undergraduate doesn't make you more intelligent than even any drop-out out there! Please, try to read and comprehend next time, don't just rush to comment in order to earn cheap points!

Shalom.
