Anambra State and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture goes into a high-power partnership

Following the soar away success that the government of Anambra State has so far recorded in attracting significant investments into the agricultural sector of the state, plans are underway for a high-level Townhall Meeting on agriculture to be hosted by the state government in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
The planned meeting was one of the highlights of a close-door meeting that recently took place in Abuja, between the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina and a special delegation from Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture led by the governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano.
The meeting came on the heels of a string of Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) which the government of Anambra State recently signed with big time investors who are currently setting up shops in the food-belt of the state to commence large scale mechanized farming.
Giving assurances of the Ministry’s readiness for the proposed Meeting, Dr. Adesina said, “we are going to have a special agricultural engagement in Anambra State. I will come with a strong team and we shall have high level deliberations on Agriculture.”
According to him, the Federal Government has just approved an Agricultural Mechanization Scheme estimated at N50bn which would finally weed out the dependence on hoes and cutlasses by Nigerian farmers. The mechanization support grant will enable the farmers to hire tractors and engage in more modern farm practices.

The Minister also declared that the Federal Government would fast-track the full realization of the proposed Staple Crops Processing Zone that has been designated for Omor in Ayamelum Local Government Area of the state, describing the Mill as very important to his ministry.
Dr. Adesina also lauded Governor Obiano’s achievements in the past six months which he said had fully restored the confidence of the investment community, leading to the recent acquisition of the moribund Omor Rice Mill by Joseph Agro Limited and the planned investment of $150m to revamp the mill.
Said he; “My Ministry is one of the first few places you visited when you were sworn in as governor of Anambra State. You are one governor that got it right. You came here to share your plans for the agricultural sector and I could see that you were very passionate to make an impact there. Your administration is moving at an incredible speed. I think it comes from your private sector background. I followed your efforts to provide security in Anambra State and I am happy that the benefits have started pouring in now.”
The Minister also assured the readiness of the Ministry to partner with Anambra State in Aqua-culture, promising to lend critical support to governor Obiano’s plans to make the state a leader in the production of fish fingerlings in the country.
Earlier in his opening remarks, governor Obiano had appealed for the assistance of the Minister to ensure that Anambra State is adopted by the ministry as one of the leading agricultural states in Nigeria.
The governor further explained that his administration had set a target to make Anambra State the leading producer of fingerlings in West Africa. Outlining the achievements of his administration in the area of agriculture, governor Obiano maintained that with the inflow of investments into the sector, the state was well on its way to becoming the first agro-state in Nigeria.

You know everything cant be done at once.
However,he made mention of dualizing all the major roads.
Lets give him some time because the man is just getting started.
IDC need better equipment, designers ....thats all.
Thise Arab contractors do they have two head?
If we dont patronize those local contractors they wont grow to develop high quality performance.
There are somr sacrifices we make sometimes in other to get to the top.
Take Innoson Motors for example; If Peter Obi didn't build infrastructure to his factory, encouraged him by purchasing thousands of vehicles from him he wouldn't have gotten where he is today. We need to be meticulous and wise so we dont shoot ourselves in the leg.
Leadership is more than just finding a good contractors and building roads...There are some very clever calculating edge one need to possess to bring about that rare change and revolution.

I see people come here everyday singing praises of Fashola or even Chime but when you do a thorough assessment of these states in all sectors you wont need a seer to tell you who is a failure.

Take Anambra for instance: Anambra didn't spend more than what Rivers,Lagos,Akwaibom and even Bayelsa spent in Education but Anambra is leading them all with so much margin....Now,ask yourself what Obi did to pull that off. Thats where the genius in a man comes in. And those who dont have that edge falls behind. We must be thorough, prudent, discipline and extremely economical in everything we do if we must not sink our dear state into debt.

THE Anambra State Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Tony Nnacheta’s claim that sporting infrastructure on ground before the inception of Governor Willie Obiano’s administration was ‘a shame’ has been refuted by the immediate past Governor, Chief Peter Obi.

Reacting through his Media Aide, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, yesterday in a statement made available to The Guardian in Awka, the former governor said the statement credited to Nnacheta was made in bad faith.

Obienyem said: “ The Commissioner may have been misquoted.”

He maintained that through the efforts of Chief Obi the state now has three mini stadia- Justice Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha South Stadium and Awka Stadium, an on-going project. ”

According to him, Obi rehabilitated the Ime Obi and Rojenny stadia at Onitsha and Oba respectfully, re-introduced school sports in the state and from 15th position in 2011 Anambra came fifth in 2012 and third in National School Sports in 2013.

He recalled that Anambra won gold medals in both male and female National Youths Sports Federation (YSFON) championships in 2012 that qualified the state to represent Nigeria at the World Youths Sports Federation held in Oslo, Norway.

“In May 2013, Chief Obi funded Anambra footballers to World pre-season tournament at Antalia, Turkey, where six Anambrarians were selected for professional careers in Europe, he initiated the first Traders Cup and Disabled Sports competitions in the state, hosted the Flying Eagles twice and placed members of Old Rangers on monthly stipends”.

Obienyem regretted that rather than acknowledging Chief Obi’s efforts and try to consolidate on them and even surpass them, all Nnacheta could remember was to describe the state of sporting facilities as shameful.

Anambra equally has some of the best serene and beautiful environments, the state is also the most populous in SE with highest population of migrants, visitors that lives in the state making it the most cosmopolitan state in the SE. The good thing about Anambra is that they do not concentrate on developing a single city. That is as why as they are building mall in Awka it is equally being built in Onitsha and Nnew, the three of them at the same time. Every part of the state is being carried along unlike some states. They believe in developing entire state than developing a section of it.

I want to ask 2 questions to my IGBO peeps(not only the people of Anambra State). Just imagine ur willie obaino (the present governor), who have tried so far (just 6months in office).
•What will be the next thing will be do? having in mind that he(Obaino) have tried in the area of Agriculture.
•Also how will you be able to utilize the huge potential in HUMAN RESOURCES that Anambra State/IGBO's in general have? to bring about the needed change in South east Nigeria.

D same old thing again.
Hey anambrarians, lets learn from enugu thread.
What people want is everyday pictures and happening in anambra so d masses can use it to analyze and constructively critise.
As u pass tru a street, snap and upload, whether good or bad, u see something what sharing, snap and upload, whether good or bad.

Not all d paid news whatever of d govt.

Things we need to make our state better etc. That is d type of thread we want to debate on.
Educative and inspiring thread.
Im sure some of us r tired of this everyday govt praise here and there.

If nigerians can come together and critisize d govt constructively and hold them accountable for every dime that enters d govt pocket, i tell u, nigeriaa would hv become american wonder by now.
But bc they know how gulliable most of us r, thats why they plant poeple here and there to consistently sing their praises.

Nothing constructive comes out of their mouth except praise and pull him down syndrome.

So bad. The mentality is wacked.
Listen my brother, nobody is singing praises of anybody. The questions I asked above shows just that! you can respond even by criticizing the government(it is normal and will bring more development).
One thing I do not like about my state and will love to see, is in terms of BEAUTIFICATION of streets, roads, round about and planting of trees and so many things. Listen what anambra just need now(because we have roads) is to change it's view from normal buying and selling to a place were investors/tourists can come and relax(no insult intended, let's just stick 2 the topic! That is how I see it). I want him to sign a contract with a foreign firm for the beautification of anambra(not just all this local workers),also the firm will be responsible for training our own workers on this..
The 2nd question above, I feel that the governor need to call a meeting with the great men of not just anambra, but IGBO's in general. Tell them his plans and how he need their help to achieve them. Also he need to find out from them their challenges and how government can be of help. Nuff said .

Obiano is very focused, he is doing all that already. Having turned the entire state into a construction site and consolidating on what Obi had built. The task is much but with the speed with which he is going on his four pillars (Oil/Gas, Infrastructural development etc) it is a matter months or thereabout before Anambra becomes a Silicon Valley.. cool

Banning of Okada riders won't be easy oh.
Even if he wants to ban okada, he should only ban okada at awka because if he bans okada at Onitsha and Nnewi, I don't know what the outcome will be like.

Bro its not that easy oh.

[size=15pt]I don't think any state had it easy banning okada use for public transport, but it was the right thing to do and they did it.

Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital did not have a single intra city car taxi or bus before okada was banned in that city. Today, the ban has forced the introduction of intra city car taxis, buses and use of Keke napep for public transportation! The people are now transported decently!

The same initial difficulty was experienced in Port Harcourt, Enugu, Owerri,Warri,Uyo, Lagos etc when okada use as public taxi was banned. Now those cities record far less deaths and orthopedic injuries which was frequent when Okada use was in vogue. My good friend Peter Obi dodged this issue when he was governor because he believed it was unpopular. But for the greater good of the citizens, okada must be banned as a means of public transportation in Anambra state. When Fashola banned okada in Lagos, he told the people that he knew it was unpopular, but for the safety and greater good of the people in Lagos, he had to do it. Fashola still won a second term because people saw through his developmental strides that he meant well.

Part of aspiring to be a tourist destination and attracting foreign people is to make your state safe and checkmate frequent causes of deaths and injuries in the area. Anambra must join the league of progressively developing states by at least banning the use of okada for public transportation in its key cities of Awka,Onitsha and Nnewi.

Ban on bikes is on the table as we speak. 3months from now will not pass before Obiano bans bikes from the major cities and major highways. They will eventually move the bikes in the rural areas where it is mostly needed. Afterwards 98percent of the bikers are not from Anambra.

God bless you Chima, I just love that 2nd pixs. This is what we need. In Anambra state, development is spread across every part of the state, but things are not organized. Look at Awada, Obosi and Nkpor, you will notice that their buildings are well planned, but they lack good roads (I mean street roads),with trees to beautify the place.
Our buildings are well planned in Onitsha,Awka and Nnewi, but we still lack that thing that makes a city beautiful/nice. Just imagine that ur entering Onitsha from Asaba and their is this beautiful water fountain and tress everywhere (it will be mind blowing).
So far in Agriculture, I will give obaino 60%,while I will keep my other score

^^^Good points!

I've been on this issue of the need to plant more trees in Onitsha to give it that fresh/green feel; as well as the need to sweep gathering dirt/soil sediments off the roads on a regular basis....at least every week! It's not every small detail that the Governor will have to handle or give instructions on; what then is the job of the local gov't chairmen or the commissioner for environment?
