Ha! Ogbeni jeki ori e pe o, have you been to ondo state general hospital before? Ondostate general hospitals can compete favourably with any 3 star hospitals anywher within Nigeria, pls I will advice you to stop making such derogatory comparism. TOKUGAWA: |

The state of health in our nation is highly patethic and we can only pray our administrators see reasons why they should pay more attention to Health Care. |

TOKUGAWA:You have not done a good job. You can't convince rational minds with just one insignificant picture. In addition, there is nothing in that one picture that shows it was taken at OOUTH. This is not a type of call-to-action thread that can spur government to remedy a situation. You need to go back, take as many strategic pictures as possible and then tell your story. It's not enough to shout, you should do it with common sense. |

TOKUGAWA:Oi, what did you expect? You see, our hospitals are in a bad state because the amount of money spent on them is not enough. And before you call for increased spending....keep in mind that what the hospital in the UK spends per annum would be about what six, maybe ten (my estimate) teaching hosptals share in Nigeria. You see, in Nigeria, we have subsidsed health care. This means the govt pays hospitals a fee in return for keeping costs low. The problem is, this limits the amount of money a hospital can raise. Add the fact that if fees go up...there will be rebellion on the streets....and you have the mess we have. There is also the problem of poor light and water supply, as well as the fact that our hospital facilities are overstretched by the Grand Nigerian Tradition of the family moving into the hospital when someone falls ill. Toilet facilities meant for ten suddenly end up being used by eighty. There is a solution....and the immediate solution means turning that hospital into a public private entity. And spending more on primary and secondary health care...because 90% of cases seen in outpatients in a teaching hospital could have been taken care of in a PHC. We may have to increase taxes. And remove fuel subsidy. Because it does not make sense wasting money subsidizing a product of which 40% is imported....the subsidy cash can go into funding hospitals. Of course...we have to improve power supply. And long term we have to become industrial.....so that our GDP and by extension our treasury would grow.,....and we would have enough cash to fund hospitals galore. You see....Nigeria does not have enough money because we are a Dutch diseased society. Until we make some hard choices....poor health care is going to be the price we pay for ''cheap''. |

bushdoc9919:Abeg oga, there's no excuse whatsoever for a Teaching Hospital to be in that condition. Did u read where the OP and other nairalander stated that they pay to use the toilet and bath amongst other things? Be reasonable... What Isn't right isn't right...no justifications at all!!! My question is - isn't it time we took laws into our own hands? How long will this suffering and smiling continue? See Burkina Faso, it took burning down the parliament building for their president to step down abi resign. We do not have to go that way, but we have the power. Vote them out!! 2015 is here already, be wise, make the right choice!! Secure your future!!! Nigerians be selling their birth right for half bag of rice and salt... Hoping your mom recovers quickly OP. |

ProfCorruption:And the other nairlanders who confirmed the gory conditions nko? What other evidence do u need Professor of Corruption? Even if he posted pics, people like you will still find ways to discredit his post... Enough is enough! The truth is the whole health sector needs revamping, and its our right as citizens to demand this. |
| Re: Appalling Condition Of The OOUTH Shagamu. by Drphemmy4u: 11:28pm On Nov 01, 2014 |
The politicians will never do something about such hospitals since they and their immediate families will never visit such hospitals for treatment but rather fly abroad. And yet,we the citizens will keep on shouting their names and even suffer under the sun at political rallies for peanuts or even nothing at all..it seems we are so easy to deceive and defraud. And soon they will come out and start saying african countries are poor despite the news about millions of dollars flying about everyday and those stolen by many politicians.Things can be better only if our rulers want it to be.We can afford better health facilities in this country! |

MissMeiya:It's perhaps a common thing but the story as related by the OP is not convincing. It's not a thread you can share with people in government. In other words, it's not actionable. There was a thread on police college that GEJ ultimately was forced to do something. That's a standard way to do an exposition that can bring a change. There was another one on Mellanby hall at the University of Ibadan with its pictures generously displayed on sahara reporters. That was bound to draw attention of people who can do something. What in this thread can spur you, not even the government, to do something? |
