So in the spirit of giving back to this wonderful forum, I arrived Phx last week to the glory of God. I flew Emirates with my mom and baby. About six days before the trip, I went to the spa so as to help me relax well in preparation for the long journey. I chose a bassinet seat about 2 weeks before d trip and requested for a wheelchair as ws advised by Phema of life grin, though it wasnt given in my name. They said my kid was too big to be on a wheelchair with me undecided. Got to the airport, cleared with customs and at the check in counter, the emirates staff I met made a fuss about my travel letter. She insisted it should have read ' she is fit to travel BY AIR'. Was delayed for sometime but was later permitted to go board. Smooth flight, got to Dubai and rested in Snoozecube for 5hrs as I had a 7 hr layover. Bed was ok but no bathroom ensuite like UK's version (yotel). Fast forward, landed New York and below was the experience.
Officer: hello
Me : hello
Officer: what brings u to the states today?
Me: vacation and to have my baby.
Officer: Any documentation?
Me: Yes. ( was a bit confused as to which document to present. Eventually presented my notification of travel plans letter to the embassy and my appointment confirmation with Mihs).
Officer: have u paid yet?
Me: No. They don't receive payment upfront.
Officer: How much do you have?
Me: 10k
Officer: how long does the family intend staying?
Me : about 3 months.
Officer: ok . Stamps us in for 6 months. All this lasted 2mins or less.
We go pick our luggage and the guy that was supposed to check our stuff just looked at me for some seconds ( more like a psychologist) and said 'you can go' .No secondary inspection or counting of cash whatsoever.
The flight to phx was just on time. Thanks to everyone here for all info and opinion shared.

I finally just made up my mind this evening. I would be going to St. Louis in Missouri. ( many thanks to @Adiahabasi for helping me find the page with this hospital's details again.
My sister in law confirmed the prices for me today:
Mobap ( Missouri baptist) Hospital fee alone.
Womanly delivery - 48hrs -$2600
each extra day 772 for mum, 328 for baby.
Epidural $800
CS - 96hrs - $3600.
I still trying to find out if the fee covers test and scans and I am still looking for a doctor and a pediatrician

a friend just gave birth in new york, she entered the states with a visit visa and her visa expired some months back, pls house will her child get citenzenship? if there is a procedure for that, how will she go about it.
zeezahbee and others pls help out.
you find me come here, na only student visa i sabi well. i will answer your question . your friend is 100% illegal immigrant, a real one at that. the new obama immigration reform is not applicable to her, it is only for people that have been in USA 5years or more and did leave the USA. as for the child, he/she is a confirm citizen even though his motheris not. as long as you give birth in USA either you are illegal or not, your child automatically becomes a cittizen.

Her friend would be illegal if she overstays the period stamped by the CBP officers upon entry, her child would get citizenship.I know of a similar case and they were able to renew their visas especially as they paid all their bills and got a zero balance statement (they were called in for another interview though). However situations like this should be discouraged, if you must travel and your visa would expire, a mail to the embassy for clarification wouldn't hurt.

@exxy please tell ur friend not to exceed her stamped in period and pay all her bills (no medic aid) especially as she is in new York which is a relatively expensive state to give birth.

why jump to conclusion, why not ask exxy whether both the visa and the stamp has expire, from his message, the lady gave birth even after her visiting visa has expired

Hi, immediatly your friends visa expired,i dont think she had any legal right to still be in the us,she was ill adviced, what she should have done was renew her visa b4 travelling. As it is now,it will be almost imposible for her to be able to get any further us visa. Something similar happened to a friend that travelled to the uk and took ill while she was there and was hospitalised and during all this wahala her visa expired, after returning to nigeria it was impossible for her to re-enter the uk agan, all her visa applications were rejected, this went on for about 7yrs and not untill she got a lawyer in the uk that took up her case b4 they eventualy gave her a visa, all these was after 7yrs and plenty money spent.
As for her baby,i dont think she would have any problem getting his american passport. The issue is her being able to re-visit the us

The UK is different, if you are given 6 months UK visa it means 6 months but for US the stamp at POE will tell you how long to stay.

Hi concerning gwinnett bills. It does usually take that long except you keep calling the customer care line everyday to ask for your bill. Had my baby at Gwinnett in November. I must say I was impressed with my OBGYN's level of care, however I was a little disappointed with the nurses: this is because of their attitude towards epidural in labour. They were not supportive of it despite the doctor's orders and they turned me to a Hebrew woman by force!lol. All in all it was a great experience (this is my 3rd delivery and I had epidural in labour for the other 2). My bills eventually turned out to be 2535usd for mum and 513usd for my baby after the 40% discount. Paediatrician/neonatologist fee was 150usd and obgyn(Dr oduro) was 2150. I had 3drips (2ringer's lactate and 1oxytocin drip) during labour and we were discharged after a 24hour stay at the hospital. I hope this helps someone.

HAAA!!!!!, she is not a 100% illegal Immigrant, she got in with a valid visa and the visa expired while in the US. If she was stamped in for six months at the POE by the CBP officer and hasn't stayed more than that time, she is still not illegal. I don't think the said friend intends to benefit from the Obama immigration reforms o.

Snoozecube is just a room with a bed ( would not want to call it a hotel grin). U are charged by the hour for staying while waiting for your connecting flight. It's right inside the airport and u do not need to go through security or immigration before getting there. It's some walk though, so a wheelchair is advisable. If you are given one, the wheelchair person ( dunno what they are called pls) will come pick you close to your boarding time to the gate for boarding.
The leg room for the regular seats is okay. Was unable to get a bassinet seat on the Dubai newyork leg and the regular seat was just fine. Remember to choose an isle seat oooo!
Cheers !

Yes I chose a bassinet seat cos I had a baby even though the bassinet wasn't used because it was too tiny for my baby. The flight was very comfortable, its Emirates you know.... At some point my bsby was so cranky! one of the attendants came and took him for a walk (thats hiw nice they can be apsrt from the wonderful flight experience). I used the wheelchair o while my mom pushed my baby in the stroller, was too weak to walk. But when we got to Poe, my sister, strength came from nowhere and I walked while she sat on it. I did not want the cbp officer to see me and think I will be popping next minute smiley.

I stayed at milton with family. Got the ssn by mail within 2weeks of delivery(I asked the hospital to apply),US passport was ready by the 2nd working day but I asked them to mail it and I got it within a week. I also got them to mail the Nigerian passport and it arrived within 1 week. So in 2 weeks you should have all your documents. The US passport cost 165usd for expedited at the passport agency and I spent 145usd for the Nigerian one.

Yes, but I'm 150% sure I'm going to richmond texas cos that's where we have family friends that we are as close as siblings to.. They used to live in 9ja before they won visa lottery in '10... I have a visa that will expire in feb '15 so I'm torn between drop box renewal/later disclosure and making an upfront disclosure.
I've been to the states just once this year on my visa, was planning to renew first, take a family trip with my hubby&kids in summer '15 and plan belle for late next year but when "Jesus says YES, nobody can say NO" grin
