Re: I Want To Publish My Novel by Seun(m): 10:03pm On Apr 06, 2006
Hello dj,

Let us publish it as a daily serial on a blog and see if people like it, before spending money to publish. How does that sound?

Seun.
Re: I Want To Publish My Novel by JosBoy4Lif(m): 10:12pm On Apr 06, 2006
That is a good idea Seun.
Re: I Want To Publish My Novel by Nobody: 11:50pm On Apr 06, 2006
put the novel in the journal section and give us a hint so we can read it and pass comments!
Re: I Want To Publish My Novel by Seun(m): 12:53am On Apr 07, 2006
If the story is good, then by the time you have posted the entire first and second chapter, people will be hooked and begging for more. Then you can start selling the book. The first set of people to buy it will kindle interest in it.

Re: I Want To Publish My Novel by uche1(m): 5:48am On Apr 08, 2006
Thats really nice seun, you can still get a blog where you can post your work so people can go there and read what you got, you can check mine out here

http://ucheland..com/ is free and cool
Re: I Want To Publish My Novel by Saddam: 8:38pm On Apr 11, 2006
I totally disagree with seun who was suggesting that the manuscript Should be posted online,

What measures do you have on ground to protect the copyright of his I.P(Intellectual property)

Dont you know that people can just infringe into this material
Re: I Want To Publish My Novel by Seun(m): 9:11am On Apr 12, 2006
You don't have to publish the entire material. You publish the first 2-3 chapters, and then people will have to buy the book to read the rest of the story. People overestimate the value of their IP.

Seun is right.

I published the first part of my fiction "Daughter of a Beggar" on Radiopalmwine.com and on Ukraine.com to test the public appreciation. I also have a journal on Oprah.com.

I have a publisher. But, I still do my pretests, monitoring and evaluation of my writings online.

Don't rush to publish a book.
Do several revisions of your drafts.

Join a community of writers.

The 2006 Commonwealth Short Story Competition will close on May Day.

Well first make sure your manuscript is up to snuff! And that's real. No one will read page 2, if page 1 is loaded w/ errors! Get a friend to read over it and help edit. This friend should be very well read and detail orientated.

Then send the manuscript away to publishing houses that accept unsolicited manuscripts. You should research a little bit to see if the publishing house would be receptive to your genre. Think about your work from an objective p.o.v. What would be on the jacket cover etc? If you have question about publishing houses then ask.

But those are the 2 basic steps:
(1) EDIT! EDIT EDIT! EDIT! EDIT! EDIT! EDIT! EDIT!
(2) Send manuscript to publishing house that accepts unsolicited manuscripts.

But it takes months for the p. houses to get back to you, even w/ a rejection notice. Be persistant b/c ppl are rejected over & over again before succeeding.

Oh, if you live abroad, try to contact a literary agent. Even if your in Nigeria, contact a literary agent and see if you can send him/her your work. Try a British (Euro) or (South) African agents if you are based in Nigeria. Contacting an agent & being represented by one gives you an edge b/c lots of publishing houses don't accept unsolicitedmanuscripts or only accept them for a few months of each year.

Have you spoken to Myne Whitman? She seems to have the hand of it and doesn't mind sharing her knowledge. I interviewed her last week:
