I don't know much about agriculture but I would advise that you invest that money in crops that can be exported. There is a lot of money to be made for exporters of the right goods with the recent devaluation of the Naira. But please be sure that whatever you invest in will bring returuns o. Wish you the very best.

Do poultry farming especially layers chicken farming and you will not regret it...Guaranteed!
Do not listen to those who tell you that it is an impossible business or a gamble. It is monumental ignorance to say so.That story belongs to the past. These days, many are doing it better informed and are getting better results without stress.
You will do well in it if you know the variables that make it work and put the right structures in place.
Layers Chicken farming for egg production is one of the most viable small scale businesses in Nigeria and the easiest to set up
The market for eggs is guaranteed in Nigeria. It is a large and inexhaustible market.
The demand for eggs is above the supply. The poultry business is a growing market far from saturation
For valuable free details about the potentialities in chicken farming in Nigeria and how to set up and operate profitably, visit the 1st signature below
With N1million, you can start with 500 layers.Half million naira for the fixtures and half million naira for the operating/running cost.
A healthy layers chicken will lay eggs daily for more than a year and you will sell the layer chicken at the end of egg production for N1000.00

You can also do broiler chicken farming for meat production
They can be sold at 7 weeks old @ N900.00 minimum
U may rear up to 12-14 weeks and sell during Christmas for N3000.00
If you know the right feeding techniques for broilers, you are sure to make 75% to 100% profits
Rearing them for Christmas, start from mid September to 1st week October and by mid December, they are matured for sale

I am presently on my Industrial Training in a Federal Government Establishment; African Regional Aqua-Culture Centre, Aluu.. In my 2nd month already, and I've come to appreciate Agriculture and it's importance..

One Million naira can go a long way in getting you loads of profits....

1. Fish Farming: Have you ever thought of the huge profits you'll make when you start this? Get a good land (half plot for a start), buy your fries, and start up with guidelines from an expert..

2. Snailery: This is another lucrative business which will fetch you cool cash.. Snails are appreciated in Nigeria, and on the high side.. You can also become a supplier to hotels, fast foods etc..

3. Poultry: It's the season for killing chicken grin grin... It can be stressful though, but the profit is worth it..

4. Feed Mill: This is a place where the feeds for aqua cultural livestock are produced.. With a little plot of land, and the right equipment with an expert guiding you, you can make huge profits.. People will come buy this feed from you..

5. Piggery: This is another lucrative investment..

6. Macrobrachium: This is the culturing and rearing of Prawns which is otherwise known as Oporo (guess I got the spelling undecided).. It's a delicious delicacy used in our meal, and quite expensive but the disadvantage of this is that, you'll need a flowing river (fresh water to be precise) where you can set your traps during the waterfall..

Hope I was able to help?

For me, cash crops are very profitable. Cocoa, when done as extensive farming, will involve exportations. U could try rubber too, though nt exactly easy. Palms are also very good, especially if u intend to have mini-factories for conversions into semi-finished n finished products. Every part of a palm tree is useful from roots to leaves. A palm tree has so much to offer u.
cash crops! Can you wait 10-15years for the cocoa or palm tree to mature before you start seeing your return on investment? Or maybe you meant by advising him to buy pre-existing cocoa farms which during harvest time ,he can be seeing something.

Legal; horticulture, agrimarketing oF semi finished goods like timber, plantain, yams, cassava and other derivatives of food or cash crops (not processed by u), poultry; quails especially, except exotic avians are reared for sale as pets. I think up some more. Illegal; cultivate canabis, hemp and market exortic herbs to pharmacies, for research most raw ingredients for pain killers are imported but their components are found in the "illegal" crops. Find a way of making this work.
