Now, lets talk about the validity of the Bible, where do we find its validity?

How can you when he uses the faffing around approach

I don't believe that God is fighting for bokoharam. God in the past fought for the people of Israel because every other nation then were his enemy. So he fought for the people Israel...

You know, the reason you believe God is not fighting for boko haram is the same reason i think God didnot fight for Israel.

BTW, your bias and indoctrination are ridiculing what you are trying to put forth as a sound discussion. So, God now had enemies? wow! Religion never ceases to amaze me with the level of mental slavery and self-deprecation it offers!

It is logical that God just exist but illogical that man/universe just exist. There is no problem that man has no pre-birth experience/consciousness but we feel uncomfortable with the idea that we might not have afterlife experience/consciousness.A thiest will agree that all other Gods asides his own are man made.Athiesm taught me that ''what man believes is which is true''

christians does not hold such belief. We believe that everything come out of God.

And where did God come out from? Or is it turtles all the way down?

I have already told you that asking where God came from is Like my pet dog asking how I came to be. No matter how the dog tries he will never fathom that out.
God and human don't relate at the same level same way humans and dogs.

As an agnostic, I can completely relate to your analogy in that man does not yet know enough to come to a certain conclusion about god's existence. However, in trying to use it to prove god's existence, I find some things wrong with it:

1. Your pet dog can see you, you feed it, sometimes find a mate for it when it's on heat, build a kernel for it. and even bury it when it dies. It doesn't have to argue about your existence.

2. You didn't create your pet dog (you don't know if it knows this though)

3. Your pet dog doesn't build spacecrafts (it's not smart enough, why should it even try?)

Like I said earlier, I completely understand the analogy! But it doesn't confirm the existence of a creator.

Well, if your dog could talk to you, it won't be that bad. But, with numerous example of God/human interactions in the bible,G.O's and prophets giving us update from God and God claiming he made us in his image. God is said to possess human qualities and action e.g jealousy, wrath, kindness, regret, sitting on throne, walking in the garden, speaking e.t.c you'll agree that human/dog understanding is quite different to human/God relationship. We all know God does not know where he came from, he just exist!!

Brilliant!

Morals are a by-product of the evolution of our social rules and social conscience. Religion simply takes credit for the work our conscience already does. Human beings do not need a book to tell them that killing is wrong. Nature in itself is self-regulatory.

@lastmessenger if you believe that humans need some form of religion to teach us morals. Please describe your opinion of human behaviour in a world of no religion. Anarchy? Humans will steal and kill themselves into extinction?
Nice one rinrin23

My brain is not sold out to any slavery. Am only saying that you have to learn morality. Morality is not a human gift. Only religion teach you what is bad.
.
I strongly disagree. I don't need a religion to uphold morals. As a poster had mentioned, morality is a human nature; religion only takes the credit. I had this argument with a senior staff yesterday. You're entitled to your opinion though. Just know your opinion is not a standard for everyone likewise mine. Whatever rocks your boat.

Who teaches you to love and protect your young?
Religion?
If you cannot do good without the invisible whip of skydaddy hanging over your head, then perhaps we might be inclined to conclude that religious beliefs are only good for people who are natural sociopaths.
Do you agree?
Brilliant analysis.

Give me a break! Slavery is bad at any time-now, before or in the future and God is supposed to know better. God even suggested the condition under which you can sell your daughter. See Exodus 21:7. We are not talking about authorities, we are talking about Yahweh and his son. They are supposed to be loving and abhor injustice.

You initially claimed God did not support slavery until I showed you the biblical evidence. Now you want to justify it or make excuses for why it was done previously. There is no reason for a fellow human being to be enslaved at any time.

You are an atheist but you just don't want to admit it or perhaps you don't know it. Because you are a Christian, you are atheistic towards Allah, Ogun, sango, Zeus, Ogwugwu, Amadioha, Hindu Gods and a million other Gods. If you die and it turns out that one of these is the real God and not Yahweh, you will be dealt with as an atheist because you did not believe in God.

You and atheists are the same except that atheists believe in one less God than you. If you understand why you dismiss over a million other Gods, you would understand why atheists dismiss yours.
I swear Nairaland is full of brilliant chap. Thumbs up

Nice thoughts but apart from the fact that there is much treats associated with religion especially christainity and Islam. Don't you think that some of the values and morality taught in religion is good and should be adhered to even without being under the treat of eternal condemnation.

Morality isn't taught by the two chief religions in the world ( Islam and Christianity ) , on the contrary both have opposed morality and common sense. What is moral in Fatwas , ethnic cleansing , honour killings and rapings , jihads , just to name a few. No , religion has done us in more.

Let me share my experience with you guyz. I am married; there is this married man that insisted on dating me. Always calling and all that. I told him that dating him will hurt my husband and his wife, hence I won't date him. He insisted and I told him it is a sin since he claim to be a xtian. He said it doesn't matter that afterwards he will ask for forgiveness. In a nut shell, he called one sunday morning and asked if I was in church; I told him I am not because am an atheist. After several questions of why and when, he caused me and told me to delete his number that he doesn't have anything to do with me again. I laughed and did as he said. I have come to realise that morality is about not hurting another person with you deed and has nothing to do with religion. Religious people are all out to please their leader even if that decision will hurt their neighbours. My verdict has been if you want to be religious, be, and stop castigating those who are not.

You are right, and for the sake of this discussion we will ignore those parts which are 'more of judaism'- the Torah, and focus on the new testament which is where Christianity begins. Kindly justify the parts in the new testament that condone slavery
