Hello Nairalanders,

VO here. We are continuing to see people appear at the Embassy and Consulate for an interview with DS-160 information that differs from their appointment confirmation. This is a friendly reminder that:

• The DS-160 non-immigrant visa application confirmation number used to schedule visa interviews must match the application confirmation page that is brought to the interview. Applicants who do not meet these criteria will not be interviewed and will have to purchase a new fee receipt to book another appointment. This includes families – make sure that the DS-160 information matches the appointment information for every family member, even young children.

• Full instructions on how to make an appointment for a non-immigrant visa interview are available on our website: http://nigeria.usembassy.gov.

• Applicants with existing appointments should contact the CGI Call Center at +234 0144 06218 to make any necessary changes.

We believe this change will make application processing faster and more efficient, and we thank you for your attention.

Compliments of the season,
U.S. Mission to Nigeria

Good day Sir &happy holidays.

I had a baby in the US(on a Visa for the specific purpose ) recently but now back in Nigeria.
My medical bills were fully paid and letters of zero indebtedness obtained. Please assist with the below enquiries.
1)Do I need to schedule an appointment with the embassy to update/notify that all bills were paid?

2)If yes to the above, please assist with steps and information required for the update.

Thank you.

REMINDER FROM THE EMBASSY AND CONSULATE

Hi NL,

Just a reminder, effective next Monday, the U.S. Mission to Nigeria will require that the DS-160 non-immigrant visa application confirmation number used to schedule visa interviews match the application confirmation page that is brought to the interview.

Applicants who do not meet these criteria will not be interviewed and will have to purchase a new fee receipt to book another appointment.

Full instructions on how to make an appointment for a non-immigrant visa interview are available on our website: http://nigeria.usembassy.gov.

Applicants with existing appointments in December and beyond should contact the CGI Call Center at +234 0144 06218 to make any necessary changes.

Good luck to you all!

VO,
I applied for B1/B2 Visa through dropbox on Dec 17th. 2014. I checked application status online but found " Your visa is undergoing NECESSARY administrative processing......" Please can you tell me more about statement above. Am concerned beacuse i meant to travel on January 3rd,2015 for training at my employer headoffice. Please note that i was there in Dec, 2013 and April, 2014.
I have been issued H3 and B1/B2 visa before and never overstayed, they were well utilized and no conatct with security offcials . Three things have changed between now and previous application: 1. I visited Saudi Arabia in October, 2014, 2. I have Angola work visa ( 2013 and 2104) 3. I changed my job to another better company within the same industry.

Visa issued. Thanks for opportunity even if there is no comment from VO.

This is OK. A B1/B2 is merely a combination visa that can be used for either B1 or B2 purposes of travel. Which purpose of travel you're intending should become clear during your interview.

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year in advance VO.
I have a younger brother who got his B1/B2 VISA December 2012 to attend a conference. All members of the group got VISAs as well including his wife who was his fiancee at that time. After they got married his wife went to the USA to deliver this year(about 4 months ago).
Though they are not planning to visit the USA anytime soon, but will visit before the end of next year for vacation, can they go ahead and renew their VISA ASAP so they can travel anytime they are ready.
Are they qualified for drop box since their status have changed, viz;
1. they have both changed jobs
2. they are now married (even though his wife has not changed her maiden name)
3. they now have a son (delivered in the USA)
4. purpose of travel is different(vacation)
5. if they have to apply now, they only have less than 500,000 naira in their account(in my brothers account).
6. they are no longer members of the group through which they applied.

if they decide to renew, should they apply together as a family or individually since the wife has not changed her name officially. Is it important to attach photocopies of supporting documents via drop box renewal.

I hope to get a reply soon.
thanks

what do you advise they do because the VISA has just expired. They don't want their application to fail.

good day VO,
I got a B1/B2 visa that has expired and i want to renew it via the dropbox service. After filling my DS160, i started to fill out my application form for the dropbox, but i logged in with my old profile for the previous visa. i noticed i cannot change my passport number as my old passport expired in 2013. what do you advice? should i create a new profile? or just go ahead with the application using the old expired passport but submit both passports at the dropbox center?
thank you for your response.

Good day. You do not need to schedule an appointment to update the Embassy that your bills were paid. Please just bring in your receipts if you come in the future.

It is up to them how they apply using drop box. Together or separately will not affect their application either way. In addition, no supporting documents are required.

Hello VO,

Wishing you and everyone on this forum a prosperous new year.

Question 1
-------------
Please i understand that Nigerians that apply for US visas are usually given 2 year multiple visas. But in my case i was given a 1 year multiple visa which i find strange. Kindly explain the possible reasons for issuing out a one year visa to a nigerian that applied from Nigeria.
Although my passport was supposed to expire in one year, can that be the reason?

Question 2
------------
Kindly clarify if i can apply for expedited visa appointment? I was denied a B2 visa on Dec 1, 2014. This is because if i wait for the next available date i would have exceeded 36 weeks for air travel for pregnant women.

Thanks in advance for your response.

You do not qualify for an expedited appointment if you have been refused in the last six months. You can schedule for the next available time, however. Good luck!

Hello Everyone,
Ok so I have plans to study in the US. And before I go any further, one thing to note in my case is that my husband is a permanent resident of the US. I also want to note that hes' attained this status for only about Six months. We got married at the registry when he visited Nigeria last month and plan to do both traditional and church weddings by his next visit in three months.
I'm(we) just wondering, If I succeed through the admission process of the institution I intend going to... and note in my visa application that my husband is resident in the states, with the conditions I have mentioned above I have a feeling that this would either be good for my application or just kill it.
Please advice me on how to make this work. Your input would be invaluable and of immense help.

Thanks in advance.

I had like to know if some applicants that irregularities had being found on their previous application i.e presenting fake stamps on thier passport , can have a chance to re-present their application with clear explanations? And also, i think much awareness should be made on the site.

Hello VO,
I hope you are having a great day!
I am currently residing in the United states. Long story short Came here and studied engineering and currently working. My company sponsored my green card and am also currently doing my Masters.

My little sister applied to Park university in Missouri and was denied visa Twice. I really don't know why she was denied visa and i will love to know at least to know what to do next time. She has the government scholarship sponsorship and school fees for 4 years paid out in full in a Voucher.

VO asked her If she is planning to change to another school when she gets to the United states(Why the question). They asked her this question in both interview. In the second interview they asked a lot of questions about me. She went inside for a minute came back and told her that she is not qualified.

NOTE: She mistakenly forgot her i-20 at home in the second Interview but they were able to pull up her SEVIS in the computer.

I am really confused on the reason why they denied her twice. We are going to try again in the Fall.
Please any advice or further questions will be great!
Thanks and God bless.

Please note that supporting documents are not required. Your parents will need to demonstrate strong ties to Nigeria and a plan to return after the visit, but that is done when answering questions. They should be prepared to talk about their work/prior work, any previous travel (if applicable), family in Nigeria, and how they will pay for the trip, in addition to how long they plan to stay.

Applicants are given a chance to explain themselves at the interview, and honesty is always the best policy.

We do not comment on specific cases, but student applicants should always be prepared to discuss their academic record so far and discuss what they want to study, why they chose the school they did, where else (if any) they applied, and present the results from any relevant exams (WAEC, SAT, GRE, GMAT). Students also need to overcome the presumption of immigrant intent, as do most other categories of applicants.

We don't give advice on visa categories on this forum, but you can visit the U.S. Visas page at http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english.html and use the "Visa Wizard" to determine the best visa for you.
