I have been following this thread. My contribution will be, if you guys happen to finally catch him, just use the nearest police station to get him arrested first. Then just in case he has one or two influences with the local police he tries to use to his advantage, I will come in here, Using my personal connection at the C.I.D hq or force headquarters here in abuja to make sure that doesnt happen and he be handed over to the special fraud unit. He will be looking at a long time in jail

Alright, Diablo666. Thanks.

To be simple and clear, I run an escrow service which would have completely eliminated this scam as a seller not willing to accept escrow is most likely a fraud or intends to under deliver.

Well it has definitely gone past that stage now as the crime has been committed. What is left is to use the law and sometimes your network to get justice.

For example, in my case the scammer claimed to be in the north. After waiting for him to deliver for almost a week and it became obvious he was a thief, the first thing I did was to get his true location which turned out to be auchi and not kaduna as claimed. I was a bit naive then and talked a lot here just like is being done now. I didn't let the thief know I knew his location until he sent a text message to me with a death threat. It was then I made him understand I was in a better position to threaten his life and told him his true location. That same evening he called to apologise and explained he really needed money. I just let it go. That was 3years back.

Presently, I run an escrow firm and have a team of lawyers and security operatives I consult with frequently. What I have learnt is stealth is always the best way. Make the thief feel like he has won. Just ignore him, it will cost money and time but in the end you will surely get justice.

Exposing plans on the Internet is just weird and futile.

Blink182,

I appreciate your detailed comment.

On Nairaland business/technology market sections, there are two different types of sellers that buyers come in contact with: those who have products in stock and those that pre-order. Escrow may work for the first category but for the second, it's a dual Escrow mode which isn't favourable to the buyer; I hope you understand the second category which I happen to fall in, has to depend on another vendor/vendor site for products stocking.

We can't gather everyone on Nairaland to Whatsapp. What's happening here is more like collation of proof. He committed said crime over and over again online, right? That's where we can get proof before moving offline. I don't see that as being weird. Also, the CID unit can't catch the thief online neither would the bank (it has to be offline) nor the telecommunication companies. How they go about catching this criminal isn't mine to decide but theirs; notwithstanding, they need leads and proof - without which no action would be taken. I hope you get it. I and several others here are only lending a helping hand to curtailing this act of Emmanuel's before he's nabbed.

Cheers.

Sir escrow can be applied to any transaction be it pre-order or outright purchase. In the case of pre-order the seller funds the purchase of item but escrow ensures his money is ready when goods or services are delivered. As a matter of fact, we make the buyer pay in full before we ask the seller to proceed with purchase.

Our Internet market is ripe and ready to go. Fraudsters will always be online but there is a way to check mate them. Sorry for this but the guy who lost 300k, if he had paid via escrow, it would have cost 4% of total sum but by now he would have had the power to call back all his money and absolutely no need for this heartache.

As for information gathering, get all parties involved offline. Discuss through phone calls. Please do everything offline and leave seun out of this. The primary aim of nairaland is to create an online community for Nigerians. What you do with your interaction is your interaction and the consequences thereof is your business.

You didn't quite get my point, Blink182. Not that it can't be applied, it's unwise to. If you've done transactions on the international horizon (I believe you have), then you'd understand that all transactions are protected (almost all: think ebay, think Amazon, think Aliexpress, etc) by Escrow. That's you moving for dual escrow which is but challenging to the seller. Secondly (and this comes as a question to you), do you expect a business person to pre-order products for clients with his/her money? Take for instance, ordering for 300 clients in a month products worth $29,895, excluding freight/shipping fee and service charge. How sustainable is that using time of delivery from vendor sites and freighters/shippers as a yardstick?

My reply to this is embedded in the first paragraph. Later today when I'm more chanced, I'll write a bit about Escrow as regards the Nigerian business sector.

I'm not involving Seun in any way, or any MOD @ that. I'm just trying to 'protect' those that read this thread and create awareness, too. Once the info is collated, offline we go.

Cheers.

We would like to announce that this man: Emmanuel Awaritete has been confirmed to be a fraudster/goes about his actions with these names.

His method of operation is by email contact where he uses scarcity or time constraints to lead unsuspecting members of the Nairaland public towards paying their hard earned funds to him. His MO involves using a name from the business person's name and then, he adds A. Emmanuel where A. is for Awaritete.

For instance, on MikkyAngel's thread, he used Michael (MikkyAngel's name) A. Awaritete. On my company's, he used Specuit A. Emmanuel. A simple explanation for why he does this is because the bank will likely correct the name each and everytime someone writes any of his chosen names.

Please be warned, as he has other aliases on other social media sites. The following are a list of people he has duped/attempted to dupe:
1) Jimmy4x.
2) Techmart.

Or used their names to dupe others:
1) Michael (Mikky on Technology Market).
2) Specuit (Specuit Cargo on Technology Market).

If you've an idea to nail this guy, just type so. Don't bother using your funds if you feel it's much of an expense (gladly, I'll use mine so that we achieve something). If you can spare 5-10 minutes to make a report to the following banks, here are the Customer Care Details:
