whitemosquito:See this one o,whats making your head big? Abi is it dt your flat monotonous story in your siggy dt pple kip correcting mistakes? Is it the asss kissers? Who sounds bipolar btw d two of us? My dear you need your drugs. If you like dont give a fuxk,i have taken the spoon. Your narcissistic attitude is nothing to me quite frankly. Na only me complain abt your attitude Mrs itooknow? You should be happy sef cux am giving your dull competition some action. Clearly your not used to any1 challenging you,get used to it Mrs champion. The essence of literary competitions is to improve talents and build intelligent discourse, irrespective of if it goes against your views. Get dt in your fragile brain. |

Kuzaku:Kuzaku, that was a nice piece. I personally relate with...but jollof rice doesn't depict AFRICAN culture. Nigerian urban culture, perhaps but not traditional African culture. Jollof rice is not an African traditional dish. The prompts also said in NARRATIVE and PLOTTING. So, it's not just enough to merely mention it, you have to weave it into the story. Hope you understand? Your grammar, syntax et al were on point tho, especially your narrative consistency. I particularly noted that. I appreciate writers who know their tenses. Weldone. Im hoping you'll take up the next Challenge.. Btw, are you a Jw? |

Kuzaku:in unrelated news, dude your story sha... The deus ex machina is a rather huge vacuum. How would a family just wake up one day and ditch a lifelong tradition without any reason? Neither narrative nor plot justified such huge leap. Your readers wouldn't fail to notice. |

Sirchotas, I read through kuzaku's story and it was good, relatable, many of us can relate with it but it didn't conform to the rules of African/traditional/ cultural festivities. Like whitey said, it was more of an urban setting, like your modern day christmas/new year celebration. I liked it, whitey and I even had private discussions about it but finally it didn't conform to the rules. |
| Re: About Whitey's Flash Fiction Challenge *comment Thread* by Nobody: 11:07pm On Jan 20, 2015 |
Oahray:From what I can infer: 1- Jws don't celebrate Christmas. To them, it's a kind of 'pagan' festival. 2- About the family celebrating xmas the following year,m I ask you, would you see your child want something badly but choose to deny him because you religion 'feels' it's wrong? Thank you. |

kaya09:I think you should see the contest as a separate entity, not under the shadow of your perception of her personality. People handle power in different ways. The pressure of organising stuff is real too. You wouldn't feel it much as a observer. When a person climbs up to have a good look around, for map purposes, it is inevitable that he'd look down on some people in the process. Look at the good side bro. |

I think whitemosquito from the beginning should have added as a rule that no one should challenge a judge's decision. If anybody knows they won't be able to keep to the rule, they should stay off. This is sheer disrepect to people who volunteered their time, effort and even data to judge this challenge. If I were a judge, I go done vex commot. Next time you're doing this, don't forget to add it as a rule. "Don't criticise any judge's decisions." Ayamlaykorn |

Kuzaku:well, I think it's a big leap, unless you are writing a fantasy. If the family does not celebrate because they believe it is pagan, and they believe it is pagan just cos they are JW, how come they stopped believing it and yet remained JW? If they stopped being JW, how come the child was surprised? The change is because the child wants to? Nice idea, but not convincing enough for readers who know the effect of religion on the average African. |

Oahray:If my memory serves me right you were d first person to call her out on openly criticizing d entries. I mean who does that? Even the caine prize for literature dt is prestigious wud neva try it,with all dia accomplished writers as judges. What was her reply? As usual she argued and fought with ohray. First thing dt cam to my mind wen i read wat she wrote was "tank God i didnt participate". |

Oahray:I'll ask one thing. Can't you love a child so much, respect his needs, know his pains well enough to bend the mnost rigid of rules for him? He should have been punished, but his father did not ask him 'why' because he knew what the child felt. What if they were still JWs but allowed the child the pleasure of celebrating the love of that saviour they talk about in school and celebrate every 25th of December? |

| Re: About Whitey's Flash Fiction Challenge *comment Thread* by Oahray: 11:32pm On Jan 20, 2015 |
kaya09:true, but I've stopped. If my criticism served any purpose, I cannot see it. Just the satisfaction that I didn't keep quiet. You've registered your thoughts. Whether she agrees or not, you have said your mind. With due respect to the judges, that's good enough. Not everyone dishing out criticism is willing to taste it. |
| Re: About Whitey's Flash Fiction Challenge *comment Thread* by Nobody: 11:32pm On Jan 20, 2015 |
laykorn:They can ban me but they can never silence me. Fyi i am breaking no rule. |
