atlwireles:Don't mind them. Corruption feeds on lies and and ignorance. That's why they're reluctant to improve the education sector. Which of them has proposed any plan for education? Decentralising power is not the problem. We need to change the technology. Global warming is real and America is now cutting down the use of hydrocarbons for power generation. We have many alternatives in Nigeria that can serve different regions well. But they all need good education as food. And employing foreigners will worsen the economy. China's blocking foreign internet connections for economic reasons: to reduce US domination of their economy in all areas. And these liars want to encourage imports. What will happen to local production and companies like Innoson when exposed to competition from giants like Toyota and Ford? 1 Like 1 Share |

Policy backwardness. When u slash the price of imported cars, you will simply give rooms for many people to keep importing and even form a strong cabal just like we have in the generator and oil importation. If some one like innoson could produce cars in Nigeria notwithstanding the absence of power, any car manufacturer or government telling us he would first fix power before he would increase the tariff is deceiving itself. I expected him to say he would call the stakeholders in the car manufacturing industry to ask them," prior to when the power would become reasonably constant, what should be done for them to invest and produce cars in Nigeria" not slashing the price and giving rooms for cabals and foreign governments to flood our country with their product and frustrate our development. I think these guys are even the cluesless and desperate ones. Osinbajo is simply deficient. For now Goodluck is working. Any other is a counterfeit. |

while pdp under gej has come out with auto policy which has earned someone like me a tear rubber jeep for d first time in my life because they assembled it in Nigeria which forces d auto company to liaise with banks to give it out on 4years term loan. now apc want Nigeria ti continue to be a dumping ground for tokunbo cars. when are we going to grow if we still depends on oyinbo left overs. in fact because of this desperation campaign I wont vote apc again. musr u rubbish everything gej did just because u want to enter aso rock. I don't pray to ride on tokunbo again in my life. as a business woman I invest d car money in my business and I use d gain to pay d auto loan repayment. it's just as if I was given d car for free. 1 Like |

Zikkyy: Passenger vehicles production is part of the plan but based on the investors preference so far and with the realities on ground; commercial vehicles production seems to be the most sustainable for now. Government has been buying time to study the investors that are willing to invest before they know the tariffs that will be raised. Based on the willing investors willing to build facilities i wont be surprised if government only raises tariffs for commercial vehicles. Remember the tariffs are yet to be raised; but the waivers for CKD/SKD/DKD components importation is well in place to open up the industry. |

Bros, Nigerians buy Tokunbo because "na there their power reach" for now. If a Newly made locally made car of same specs with camry 2.2, and cost about N300,000-N500,000, Nigerians will prefer it to a Tokunbo Camry 2.2 that costs almost/over a million. The buying decision of consumers is always driven by many factors which the automobile policy has taken care of.Before now the volume of imported vehicles exceed 60,000 units annually, and do they still sustain? Do you know the Engineers, accountants, coorporate Advisors, lawyers and many other professionals will will be employed if production is made here? Even the quoted units of import isnot enough Nigerians will buy more when its more affordable which the policy will take care of, because jobs and more money will reach many households. I agree with you on refinery, in fact, it is one of my anger with this administration because they promised to build 3 in their "Tranformation" bluebrint. Nothing stops all sectors to move at the same pace in development of our country. Finally, local production reduces costs of import and help in strenghtening the naira. Zikkyy: 1 Like |

ilugunboy:how many Nigerians are being inconvenienced? I am an igbo, I think I should be in the forefront with those demanding that the tarrif be reduced because of my kinsmen trading at begger, but then which one is beneficial importing and creating employment for those outside as well as using Nigeria and Africa as a dumping ground or discourage both the importers and any cabals by increasing the tarrif and creating employment for our people and in the longrun, we have enough and cheap cars. What we should be saying is how can we stop smuggling. How can the custom, police and immigration help us in that regard. If they understand the laws and still take bribe, and yet point fingers to the top, then who is fooling who. We are fooling ourselves. So I hate it when people are sentimental blind. Be objective and forward looking. 1 Like |

BlackTechnology: Wow! Encourage them with what? If they stopped importation today, would Innoson be able to fulfill demand? Remember demand covers everything from small/economy to ultra-luxury cars to even just the number of vehicles purchased in Nigeria. How many other companies are fully functional right now? What about our credit system, can all Nigerians afford a brand new car? These are questions you guys need to ask yourself. The tariff is very premature, 35% is very high. Maybe its because you haven't bought a car is why you're talking like this. Right now that tariff is nothing but a burden. The biggest encouragement the government can give them is constant power and a robust manufacturing industry. |

asuustrike2009: My brother. Do a bit of research before delivering wrong info as though it were the gospel!!! This information is available everywhere. Where were you when the whole discuss on power privatization was going on. In truth except we equip ourselves with knowledge how can we know who is credible and who is not? Please for your information: 1. Power Generation has been privatized and is in private hands as we speak. Even the new plants Government is completing under the NIPP are also in the last stages of being sold. Any investor today can build his own power plant, and several are already doing this as we speak. 2. Transmission is still in government hands. However, the operational management is in the hands of an experienced Canadian Company called Manitoba Hydo International. There are moves to privatize this in the near future. 3. Distribution has been fully privatized and is already in private hands. Just some basic info, which like i said is available for free online. 1 Like |

Even FG knws that they are on the wrong path The Federal Government may have bowed to pressure on the implementation of the 70 per cent tariff on imported used vehicles by postponing its enforcement to April 30, 2015. This is the third time in six months that the tariff implementation date will be shifted. It was first moved from July 1, 2014 when the government decided to implement the policy in two phases of 35 per cent apiece to January 1, 2015. The government said then that the arrangement was to enable local vehicle assembly plants to ramp up production in order to meet the nation’s demand for brand new vehicles. |
