Presidency has faulted recent statements made by former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, about incumbent President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

Obasanjo, during an interview with Channels Television, had alleged that the postponement of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was part of the grand plans by President Goodluck Jonathan to win the election by all means.

The former President made the statement on Saturday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, while speaking on the state of the nation and giving his opinion on the election postponement.

Obasanjo accused the President of forcing the postponement of the elections on INEC.

However, a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, on Saturday, made the Government’s position known on the issues raised by Obasanjo.

Full text of the statement as published on Reuben Abati’s website:

OBASANJO’S UNWARRANTED ATTACK ON PRESIDENT JONATHAN IS ODIOUS, REPUGNANT AND SELF-SERVING

We find the false claims and allegations reportedly made against President Goodluck Jonathan by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday in Abeokuta very odious and repugnant.

As we have had cause to say before, it is most regrettable indeed that a man like Chief Obasanjo, who should know better, chooses to repeatedly, wantonly, and maliciously impugn the integrity of a sitting President of his country for the primary purpose of self-promotion.

It is obvious from Chief Obasanjo’s serial vituperations against President Jonathan who is doing his best to positively transform Nigeria for the benefit of all of its people that he has willfully chosen to close his eyes to the present administration’s good works and intentions. For reasons best known to him, Chief Obasanjo has set his mind on regime change by fair or foul means.

Otherwise, it would be completely senseless, irrational and out of place for Chief Obasanjo, who still claims to belong to the same party as the President, to accuse President Jonathan of plotting to win the rescheduled presidential elections by “hook or crook” and planning to plunge the nation into crisis if he loses the election.

For the record, President Jonathan has no such intention and will continue to give the greatest possible support to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant federal agencies to ensure that the rescheduled elections are successfully conducted.

Indeed, it is not President Jonathan who remains faithful to his oath of office who is trying to plunge Nigeria into crisis, but Chief Obasanjo who is scheming to plunge the country into chaos in pursuit of a selfish and highly egocentric agenda.

Chief Obasanjo’s plot with others within and outside the country to thwart the general elections and foist an unconstitutional Interim National Government, which he hopes to head on the nation is well known to us, but by the Grace of God Almighty, his odious plan to return to power through the back door will fail woefully.

We know very well that it is in pursuit of this nefarious plot that the former President continues to sow the seeds of discord and crises in the polity by purporting to remain in the ruling party while openly consorting with the opposition, endorsing its candidates and predicting victory for opposition candidates in a manner most unbecoming of a supposed elder statesman.

Thankfully, the vast majority of Nigerians who are patriotic and right-thinking cannot be fooled by Chief Obasanjo’s antics.

We urge them to be assured that President Jonathan’s commitment to democracy in all its ramifications remains constant and that he will never be party to the use of any unlawful means to remain in office or gain political advantage over his opponents. The President stands by his commitment, which he reaffirmed on national television last Wednesday that on his watch, all elections in Nigeria, will be free, fair and credible, and that all certified election results will be respected.

As President Jonathan has also assured the nation, the rescheduling of the general elections was in the best interest of the nation and was never driven by any ulterior motive on the part of government as Chief Obasanjo and others have alleged. President Jonathan will continue to put his best efforts into giving Nigeria quality leadership and will not be distracted from his purpose by unwarranted and needless criticism by persons who ought to know better.

The President also continues to trust in the good judgment of Nigerians and to believe that in appreciation of his sincere efforts to move the country forward over the past four years, they will re-elect him for a second term on March 28, 2015 with a mandate to pursue his agenda for national transformation to a successful conclusion.”

I begin to wonder why comments from Obasanjo creates so much confusion within the president's camp. Are they scared that he is aware of some of their plans and revealing it to the world. The presence of Obasanjo is a blessing. He should continue to act as a check and balance for the president. Funny enough, they are members of the same party. Something is terribly wrong in aso rock

Na wa for OBJ sef o.

The sensible thing to do would have been to release the info at his disposal to close associates for dissemination to the public. By him doing this all the time, it portrays him as disgruntled and pained even though he has a right to feel pained judging by how Jona deceived him.

JonaTAN is unapologetically deceitful, unfaithful, desperate, callous, corrupt, manipulative and above all dangerously divisive. He is not a type of leader deserving of Nigeria.

In any case, Jona is a goner. That is to say, come March 28, Nigerians will affirm that they have had enough of GEJ's cluelessness and wickedness.

I admired the Obasanjo Administration for the giant strides taken to reposition Nigeria in his time. I however would like to ask:

1) Did Jonathan preside over the NIPP fraud that failed to deliver 100 Kilowatts of electricity after 16 Billion Dollars?
2) Did Jonathan supervise the murders of Marshall Harry and Bola Ige?
3) Did. Jonathan endorse the lock up of AD Governors who were in Ekiti for a meeting by the then government of Ayo Fayose?
4) Did Jonathan pursue the sharing of N50 Million per senator for term extension?
5) Did Jonathan instigate the neglect of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and. Benin-Ore Road in their killer conditions?
6) Did Jonathan bring down Odi in wanton disregard for the sanctity of human lives?
7) Did Jonathan embark on frivolous threats of political enemies with the EFCC?
cool Did Jonathan oversee the massive rigging of polls during the 2003 and 2007 elections?
9) Did Jonathan make himself Minister of petroleum?
10) Did Jonathan declare that elections were do-or-die?

Chief Obasanjo does not serve history well with his recent outbursts. GEJ may do better, comparatively speaking, after 8 years or Buhari after 4 years.

But historically inclined Nigerians know Obasanjo is playing hatred and selfish card on anything Jonathan.

Who really is talking?

1. Is it a different OBJ or the one that wanted to destroy our constitution to get 3rd term?

2. Is it a different OBJ or the one that rigged all elections in Nigeria when he was president to favour PDP?

3. Is it a different OBJ or the one that embezzled 16 billion dollars meant for NEPA rehabilitation without anything to show for it?

4. Is it a different OBJ or the one that duped Nigerians of billions of Naira in the name of donations for building national library which documents are written in his name?

5. Is it a different OBJ or the one that supervised fake privatization with attendant looting?

Jonathan is not perfect but history has not conferred on Obasanjo the moral authority to criticize Jonathan even with falsehood.

people should ask themselves ,why is it that obj is the only past nigerian leader criticizing gej? Does that mean he is the only patriotic past head of state or the wisest? Obj comments are not befitting for a person who holds the status of an elder statesman, his comments are inflammatory and they should be rejected .

you people still don't get it . Gej isn't affected ,the worst scenario that can happen is that he is not voted in ,but have u thought about the worst scenario that can happen due to reckless and irresponsible statements from people looked up to as leaders? When the women, mothers, men are been slaughtered and killed due to inciting statements from fools like obj ,does these killings affect obj family members or gej family members? When buhari statements incited youth corpers to be killed ,how many of those killed were gej,obj or buhari family members? We must not allow selfish greedy leaders to psuh us around like cows and goats all because they want to rule nigeria .
