Show Review: [b]Patriarchy has been extremely successful, despite its recent vilification. Most cultures worldwide are patriarchal – to find examples of successful matriarchal societies you either have to turn to ancient history, remote outskirts of the world or feminist fiction.

However, this hasn’t stopped the feminist collective from queefing out books and even a hashtag hailing the end of patriarchy in a textbook example of incestuous amplification.

What patriarchy, after its apparent downfall, will be replaced with remains to be seen. Hamsterizations aside, there is surprisingly little data available about what life would be like in a society made up of only men or only women.

An enterprising social scientist might want to perform an experiment where groups of men and groups of women are left to their own devices, having to work together to survive against the elements and build a civilization from scratch. However, this scientist would have a very hard time convincing ethical review boards that the inevitable suffering of his participants would weight up against the
value of the data.

Luckily, reality television is not bound by ethical constraints and once in a while, in its never ending quest for viewer ratings, reality TV accidentally performs a very interesting experiment that social scientists would never be allowed to do.

Quite a few years ago, I had the pleasure of watching the Dutch version of Survivor ( Expeditie Robinson) with my feminist roommate. That particular season would have two islands, one populated by men and one populated by women. My roommate had been promoting that particular
series to me and the other students in the house for weeks because it would show us, according to her, what a society run by women – free from the evils of patriarchy – would be like.

And it did. Oh it did.

Here is what happened: initially both groups were dropped on their respective islands, given some supplies to get started and left to fend for themselves. In both groups there was some initial squabbling as people tried to figure out a local hierarchy. The men pretty much did whatever
they felt was necessary – there was no leader giving orders. Men who felt like hunting, foraging or fishing did so. Another guy decided he was fed up with sitting on sand and started making benches. Others built a hut that gradually grew and evolved. Another guy cooked every night. Within days a neat little civilization was thriving, each day being
slightly more prosperous than the previous one.

The women settled into a routine as well. The hung up a clothesline to dry their towels, then proceeded to sunbathe and squabble. Because unlike men, women were unable to do anything without consensus of the whole group. And because it was a group of at least a dozen women, consensus was never reached. During the next few episodes, the women ate all their initial supplies, got drenched by tropical storms several times, were eaten alive by sand fleas and were generally miserable.

The men on the other hand, were quite content. There were disagreements of course, but they were generally resolved.
Eventually, the people running the program decided something had to change. In order to help the women out, three men would be selected to go to their island. In return, three women would take their place at the men’s island. The look on my feminist roommates face during this episode was priceless.

Initially, the three men selected for the women’s island were ecstatic, for obvious reason. But then they arrived at the island and were greeted
by the women.

‘Where is your hut?’, they asked.

‘We have no hut’

‘Where are your supplies?’ they asked, dismayed

‘We ate all the rice’

And so on. The three men ended up working like dogs, using all the skills developed by trial and error in their first few weeks – building a hut, fish, trying to get the women to forage. The women continued to bitch and sunbathe. The three women who were sent to the men’s island were delighted – food, shelter and plenty of male attention was freely available. They too continued to sunbathe.

And that my friends, is what patriarchy is. My former roommate, unsurprisingly, is no longer a feminist.

Now this might all be a fluke, a white raven, an exceptional case not representative of society as whole. But that particular season of Dutch Survivor is not unique. CBS broadcast several Survivor seasons in the US, where men and women started off in separate groups. In most cases
(the Amazon and One World), the result was the same. The men quickly got their act together, getting access to food, fire and shelter while the women spent a lot of time and energy on petty little squabbles, eating their meager supplies, getting drenched in storms and generally being
pathetic. The opposite situation, where men didn’t get their act together while women quickly built a functional micro society, has not yet been observed outside of feminist fiction, and it probably never will.[/b]

Frizzy: "Yeah but it's not like we got mountains of it." "But
what we would also like a lot; good conversation and being
able to raise the morale" Random woman: "Your presence
alone will already do good for us, I think"
Surfer starts speech: "You kinda have to see it like sports, you
have to consider yourself a team, like with volleyball you are
also a team, and you also dont out any of your teammates.
Here you are together as a team, then you also have to act
like you are a team. And sure there might be things that you
think of someone else "yeah but I dont like that she does that
in that way", but you have to do it as a team.

Mensirip

Woman: "it looks super. I thought I landed on a dream island.
A nice hut, sleeping spots, dining table. It was like a cafe on
the beach. Only need a cocktail to finish it."

Man with headscarf: "We are very interested in what your
island looks like."

Woman: "I would have to say something different (implicit
comparison where she says the men have it far better than
the women)"

Back at Uma

"While Raymond (apparently surfer's name) is labouring, the
women simply don't stop talking about their new hero"
Black haired woman: "I think it's cool that he said what I've
been wanting to say for 12 days now. Have respect for each
other."

Frizzy: "I hope he can be the influence that makes us become
more like ourselves(!) and stop doing this stupid shit."

Woman to Raymond: "You're busy cleaning up aren't you?"

R:"yeah"

Woman:"We are having fun sunbathing. They say you should
squeeze your slaves dry right?"

Mensirip

"On mensirip Christina has also gotten a fitting task"

Christina: "I absolutely dont mind to do this. I was scared I
would be chosen as some sort of manservant. I expected they
would let me do shitty tasks. "

Man: "She's really a cutie. Very direct, spontaneous, and
open. And she's from Antwerp." Cue some song of Antwerp
that I never heard before.

Uma

Women singing.
"Alies and Raymond have chosen to go to a quiet spot, to
great hilarity of the other women" Frizzy:"On the little hill, the
little mountain, woo!"

Frizzy's name is Holleke: "I think there's a special bond
between Alies and Raymond. You can see that they have a
certain click with each other."

Alies: "You have pulled me through it ( I dont get the

Raymond: "No you do that to yourself, I only give a bit of
energy." "Giving up is the easiest thing to do, it is the easiest

Christina and Raymond now have to point out the most
complete "Robinson" (- reference to robinson crusoe
obviously):
Raymond chooses Holleke/Frizzy Christina chooses Derk/Dirk

Show guy: "These two coouples will form two new camps.

The
camps will be divided anew. In a minute, Dirk and Holleke,
and their secondants, will take it up with each other in the
test. And the couple that wins, may not only choose which
camp they take, but also on which island they may live."
Derk and Christina win the hard firsttest, where a canoe has
to be gotten above sea. Derk chooses Menserip as island.

He
chooses his cooking buddy Olivier.
Ok so this is simply a redivision of people in new camps, its
really only interesting for people who have actually followed
this show.

Walter: "We actually had it pretty good; everything was easy
and fluid."

Holleke;"yeah we can sing tonight!"
For Walter its quite a shock when he gets confronted with
what the women's camp looked like on Uma.

Walter: "We built everything up together, have kept reserves,
acting well-thought-out, and then you get pulled away from
your mates by fate and ploppled on another island where
they have lived quite a dissolute life. It's kind of a garbage
heap, and then you think to yourself "Damn I have to clean
up all this too?""

Raymond: "Yeah I was also unpleasantly surprised. At least
I'm happy I have got some people around me who I built up
the other camp"

Walter: "The other camp was quite a bit more comfortable"

Raymond: "For sure"

Walter:"We should try not to bitch too much."

Raymond: "Yes we have to try to make something from
scratch"

"The arrival at camp North at Mensirip takes place in a far
more relaxed atmosphere. The ladies are happy they have
arrived on the Men's island."

Loes: "you would think women would have everything all neat
and tidy, but our place was more like a trashcan. And here
everything IS neat and tidy."

created such a mess"

tired of loosing stuff. I lost my rain coat, then I lost my sheets,
then this, then that (implying it got stolen I think)"

Walter: "Yeah we had that too, then you would ask "hey boys
have you seen my sheets?" and then they would say "yeah
here I got it""

Holleke: "Yeah I think you have to be careful with your things
and you have to use them for a long time. So I put my things
there, and you (the other women) dont get your hands on it"

Walter: "I guarantee you within half an hour, you will get in a
massive fight with someone."

Holleke: "Us?! No way. We have never had fights."

Walter: Not that relevant, dont truly get what he means
"After a heavy storm that night, Camp North wakes up. The
men immediately start working to get the fire up and working.
Annelies, again, has a breakdown."
Annelies (this is Alies, got her name wrong initially): "I was
probably crying for at least 2 hours. I was up. I can feel myself
break. "

Christina: "Next time you feel so down, try to look at the
bright sides, and try to bite through it. You only have to do
this once. You have to bite through it and be hard for
yourself. Right now you have a little depression every two
days. Just keep going."

Annelies:"I just keep telling myself I will leave"

Christina: "Try to benefit from the fusion"

Annelies: "I will try my best but I can't promise anything"

Holleke:" I have to say it looks quite a bit more ordered and
cleaned up. Then you also feel like doing work yourself again.

rid of all the garbage cuz that doesnt look nice at all either"

Woman: "I read an interview with a sociologist and he said
that if we had depended on women, we would still be living in

set order here, and wait for what the tests will become."

Well done bro'; just watched it - and read the write-up, just as I remembered.

I certainly appreciate the "men working like slaves" - it's pretty much thus for most men who have families.

And I laughed at "drenched by tropical storms" - just like they come up in here and get "rinsed" by the Femnivores

Bottom line - Patriarchy is the default, anything is is an abberation and unlikely to work large-scale or long-term. And the killer is "because women want it that way".

so this 36 year old woman räped an underaged boy and he was spared jail by another idïotic judge. this is the 14th woman this year that would commit räpe and not go to prison.

The double standard is glaring.

The tone when it's a man is always of a raging over-libidinous monster. When it's a woman "she's always vulnerable and was in a bad place" - usually due to the actions of some man, so it's actually all his fault. There is actually a drive to remove the possibility of jail time for women for any crime.

I'm still of the mind it's not as bad for boys, but I don't scream "equality". I also know that some supposedly under-age girls are forward and promiscuous.

I'm all for the husband forgiving her. Hopefully he asserts himself and doesn't become a serial cuckold. Can't fathoom what kind of damage this will have done to their son/children sha.

Although it talked about "her crying", nothing about the underlying reasons of why she did it, or if she has "form". Hmmm....

I have 8 mentions all suppressed and I see that Coco' thread has been deleted. I've also seen your "call for calm" thread, and am putting 2+2 together. What happened? Was it that bad?

There will always be beefs and wars - be they on the basis of personality or world-view differences. Not only can you not change that, to many of us it would be a poorer (read duller ) forum without it.

They always settle and if it gets too bad people typically ignore each other - with of course the occasional flare-up . I really don't think this suppression of speech/censorship is for the best.

This board is largely self-moderating, we try not to stress our moderators . And in any event you can't expect hypocrisy (not to mention, tribalism, bigotry, posturing, demagogic behaviour, attention whoring and the like) not to be called out. Just saying.

How do I know who needs advice, or who is in need of a good rinsing if mentions are blanked !

To be honest it won't settle differences, they'll just get parked.

the ones who start the trouble are also the same ones who run to the moderators to lock threads. my problem with the moderators is how they act in favour of the first whistleblower they come in contact with. the action should be balanced.

A curses B, B curses A in retaliation.
A runs to the mods, the mods ban B or hides his comment & A is roaming free to troll C or D. that's the usual cycle about the beefs on NL. the moderators are like nigerian police men - the person who reports first is automatically innocent!
