I hope every eligible voter collects their PVC, but we should be mindful that it is important that the Church and State should always be separated... Having a PVC is my personal right, and nobody else's... If i choose to not get one, it is none of your business... Having a PVC does not even mean that one will vote on election day... To now use PVC to regulate communion is sad, and I wonder what will be used next time...

pld4reel:
Are some Nigerian so dumb to believe this pastors ??

Why have pastors taken the place of God in our lives ??

I have met couple of Nigerians who believes that it is only when their pastors pray for them that is when they will receive the anointing of God.

Our God is too patient if not, some Pastors for dey receive slap for every nonsense wey come out from their mouth.
You made no iota of sense. Sorry!

this is very shameful.indeed,it's true what the Bible says that judgment will begin in the house of God.and if the righteous are scarcely saved,What's d fate of unbelievers.I won't really doubt if someone says this is that N6billion naira at work, because for God's sake, what does collecting PVC has to do with participating in communion? where does he see that in the Bible? I actually wonder these days whether the church of God is for Christ Jesus or it's a political platform. The church of God has just totally lost the purpose of her existence in Nigeria, and she has become mingled of with the affairs of the society....well,the time is coming, and it's at hand when God will take over again.just watch out!

The state is not threatening these people with imprisonment. So even by your definition it is something they ought to do as opposed to something the must do.

P.S.
English really is a messy language - the link that you gave places duty above obligation but my understanding has always been:
http://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-obligation-and-vs-duty/

Maybe it's a North America vs northern Europe difference.
Sir, your link is a bit funny! Forget about the operationalization adopted there, the standard form remains that I gave above. Sir, you can confirm using any dictionary of your choice. Thanks!

According to the dictionary obligation and duty are interchangeable.

That's why I said that English is a funny language - there is no 'standard' when it comes to these words because language is fluid, it changes with the times.

However, normally, an 'obligation' is a requirement that you cannot escape from without there being consequences by the authorities. When people are 'obliged' to do something then they must, they are compelled.

With 'duty' there may be an internal moral compulsion but that is not the same as an authoritative compulsion.

Obligation:

n.
The act of binding oneself by a social, legal, or moral tie.
n.
A social, legal, or moral requirement, such as a duty, contract, or promise that compels one to follow or avoid a particular course of action.
n.
A course of action imposed by society, law, or conscience by which one is bound or restricted.

This is the definition of "duty"

n.
Moral obligation: acting out of duty.
n.
The compulsion felt to meet such obligation.

No mention of being bound in the definition of duty.

I know a lot of people who refuse to use Facebook.

I don't like the idea of having my info so easily accessible to the world.

is that really what you see of fb? But you can limit the info you give out, and also prevent people from accessing certain confidential info about you. If properly managed, fb is a vital information channel for all, pls avail yourself the opportunity it presents.
