From your post, I doubt you are almost becoming a doctor, unless you are yet to write your 2MBBS. The vaginal examination is called pelvimetry. It is done to assess if b the birth canal of three woman is adequate for the baby. Based on that, it is now decided if it is safe for the woman to deliver vaginal program by caeserean. It is usually done in the first pregnancy, around the 35th week of pregnancy.

Its true. Its not a must to use a male doctor. You can opt for a female doc if you dont want a man to see your womans privates.
Besides what is the disgust in it? Embarassing or uncomfortable I will agree and understand. But disgust? Is he rapping her? Is he abusing her body? He is doing his job. If you dont like it, move on. No one will force you to take her there. Besides, how many moms today remember or feel any shame after their baby arrives? The doctor will not even remember her sef.

When ppl say things like "get a female doctor if you don't want a man to see her privates", I just wonder, where are they from? The moon?
Please the only way to be sure no other man sees ur wife's privates is if u caught her immediately she was born and you put an iron pants on her and lock away the key. If you didn't do that, my brother, several men have seen it. And if you didn't meet her a virgin, no matter how darling she is to you, at least one man's dick has gone in (it can be several men). So please, get over the female doctor issue.

Soo many funny comments, i cant help smiling while reading through.

Op lets get some facts clear, vaginal examination is rarely done during routine antenatal visits unless its ABSOLUTELY necessary. As a matter of fact, it can induce labour prematurely, and ofcos we dont want that.

That said, i think you need a change of perception about this whole thing. Doctors are professionals and whether you like it or not, some day your wife is going to part her legs on the doctor's table. Those clamouring for female gynae or whatever are somewhat being naive. Wait till your wife has a critical condition, then you realise your wife's well being rather than the doctor's gender is all that matters.

2, Secondly is the one in green, you wish to know how we ladies cope, I would rather ask you how it bothers you, are you lady for it to be worried about it? Of all the things in this world what happens in antenatal room is most worriying to you. Please leave that for women.

Doctors do during antenatal and delivery, there's absolutely nothing wrong. If u are afraid of that u can get a female gyn/obst for your fiancee or wife. I have gone through that and it isn't an issue especially during delivery.

I can't help but. Laugh. I understand your fears but what must be done must be done. Without doing a vaginal examination, there is no way to better access the birth canal. Now during antenatal,doctors do pelvimetry for some pregnant women, not all of them cos there are indications for clinical and radiological pelvimetry. So not all pregnant women undergo this.

However, when the woman falls into labour, the doctors must do the vaginal examination to access how dilated the cervix is and to know the state of the baby. We don't usually do this alone, we also invite a female chaperon to be with us mosttimes.

One fact is that there are more men who specialises in obs and gyn than women, so chances. That you will see a male doctor attending to yur. Wife is very high, remember it's labour and most time you don't mind the person attending to you. All you want is to deliver an healthy baby to an health mother.

By the way, I can't count the vaginal examinations that I have done during antenatal and labour, and it's even the smell of the liquor that make me to run away from becoming a specialist in O&G.

Misinformation. There's no 'physiological changes' during pregnancy that makes a vagina unattractive and undesirable. Otherwise husbands/men would not be making love to their pregnant wives/mistresses even on the eve of their delivery.
But speaking to the issue at hand, OP has real concerns; and, I am surprised at the responses, even from presumably female respondents. Truth is that some doctors hide behind the veil of professionalism to actually finger (and enjoy it), not just professionally examine women at pregnancies and other times. The answer the OP should be getting is support to ensure that the medical association stands up and enforces the necessary ethical rules guiding such situations.
And, a question: Wives/mistresses, how would you feel to know that during particular procedures, female doctors are allowed to rub, touch and massage your husband/boyfriend's joysticks ---in a private environment where it's only the two that are preswent?
Let's discuss maturely in a way that would add to the body of knowledge on this rather sensitive subject!
