Good job you are doing with the boy . My only observation is the way you are playing the tug, it's wrong. Tug playing with dog is a game and also you are training the dog to fight. Make sure you are closer to the dog when playing and you must always touch him and draw his paws to your body before you let him win. Make some noise during the game in order to familiarize the dog with real life response to dog bite. Will update more when I'm available, just a little observation here sir.

oluomoadebayo, solid stuff. I'm a rookie myself.

Deeptesting, change the title of the thread to "My Dog, Cooper & I" or something similar. It has become a chronicle, howbeit an interesting one.

YWC. Make yourself interesting to the dog and not the tug, you are the provider of the tug . The pup is young now but I'm telling you he will be challenging you in few months.

Coopers tab.
Pet Tabs Forte is a comprehensive nutritional supplement containing a complete spectrum of vitamins, minerals and protein to keep animals in peak condition. The tablets contains real liver and cheese. Cooper, initially did not accept it but he takes each tab daily without issues now.

Coopers food and drink bowl.
The idea behind the pics is to encourage people to wash their dogs food and drink bowl at all times before serving them food or water.
Please don`t use that condemn dirty plastic Mama Nkechi discarded, let`s show love and care to our best friends.

Nice! The first time my pup took a ride with me, he puked all over the back seat of my car.

Nice! I did not feed Cooper before the ride until we came back, then gave him water first to quench his thirst and then fed him later. Try it out and see.

Was Cooper shivering during the ride? How did you stabilise it in the car. Was it crouched on the back sit floor or sat atop the back sit enjoying the view tongue out? It's good to know it's reaction as time goes on as you socialise it the more so you can get its manners right. Let it know it's designated sit or position as a front sit ride now will make it think that's it's place and would not understand why it has to move to the back sit later. Do not forget to also expose it while doing fill up runs. I remember a gsd I owned years back took an offence to the fuel attendants poking something into the side of the car and would charge at an attempt they made to collect money for fuel purchased. Be careful to note signs it gives when it needs to pee or poo while taking a ride. It will save you a clean up later.

Noted... He was very jittery and will move around the back seat but Cooper understands when i say "shhhhhhhhhhhhh" it means i want him to be calm. I started using that sound very early because he is always excited on seeing me and will jump all over me staining my clothes and shoe. When he begins to pace up and down wanting to move from back seat to the front seat the sound "shhhhhhhhhhhh" comes handy telling him to be calm which he responds by either sitting down or suspending the activity he is engaged.

Hope to share more experience as we continue our socialization class.

On the jumping on the body out of being exited I controlled that with same gsd I mentioned by getting it to sit before I give it attention or even a treat. That way it understood it was my preferred position for any further action of a hug, treat, affection or instruction. As you know they are very eager to please and will fall in line in no time.

Further more did Cooper try to bolt out of the car when you got out? Did it display separation anxiety ie it felt you wanted to leave it behind? Get Cooper to hop into the car and out only on your command. If it's not told to get in the car it should be made to be content with staying back unless otherwise told to come along. As it begins to enjoy riding with you confidently it might go to the other extreme of feeling it must be part of every ride. The commands I use on my canines for rides are..." max in the car.....and .....max out of the car" . When I'm stepping out they will escort me to the car but will all sit and wait until any of them is invited to join me. If there's no command they will walk away while I rev to depart. Cooper can get to that level of balance which you can achieve with it.

Thanks Cooper just started his obedience training,he is an intelligent dog it doesnt take much for him to understand a command and he is such a lovely companion who reads your body language and does not want to do anything to hurt your feelings. It took just 24hrs for him to understand that when i open a door i should be the first to walk out, most times he gets to the door before me but sits and wait for me to walk out, he also learnt how to sit and wait for me to drop his food without jumping or pacing around.

Coopers loyalty has built my understanding why Dog trainers would say "never hit a dog". There is nothing you want them to learn or do that they cannot do all that is needed is patience on your part and consistency. Thanks a lot @kolokolobi.

Cooper is very young , don't teach him more than the basics yet because obedience kills drive in working dogs.

Hehehe! I've been following this thread for some time, and I didn't expect it to make the front page now. Maybe when Cooper is old enough

That's a controversial statement. Many people on the Internet strongly disagree. What are the experiences that led you to this belief? Cheers.

nice thread and informative too,
I love dogs and I use to have one before but had to sell due to old age and no time to take care of the dog well, I mean taking her on a walk, regular bathing, and the likes, planing to get another one though, a rott or a boarboel but personally I love Caucasians and golden retrievers
an observation with an advice, why don't you use cod liver oil the syrup though cos yah dog still a puppy, cos of the skin actually, if old age is not my problem when it comes to my sight I think your dogs fur ain't that glossy and shiny, coupled with other benefit of using the cod liver oil, you can get one at agege, freedom vet or mummy Daniels shop

Cute he is and cuddly too. I wish my Hazad will stop wrestling with my shoes. Is that something to be worried about? He chews and chews and spit the remnant all over the place. He is a 6 months old gsd. He is also too friendly. This worries me too, if you come inside the compound today, you get a sniff and then he is jumping all over you. Its my fault i know, but what can be done to rectify it? And he won't stop eating rice and fish or a concoction of pap with milk and eggs. he would sniff meat and sneeze like its disgusting. Are same dogs vegetarian in nature?
