Your understanding of what happened in these verses will tell you the rationale behind the Human and Divine Natures of God.

Here, Jesus Christ acted as God. His mother and His brethren could not come close to Him, may be because of the crowd listening to His words. So they had to send someone to Jesus to call him. The Bible says "desiring to see thee" and this means they were not there to listen to His words but may be they wanted to see Him for an important matter.

If Mary is the Mother of God as claimed by the Catholics, Jesus should have left the crowd to answer the call of his earthly mother or better still, he should have sent someone to tell them to wait till He finished.

I am sure that even the crowd would be surprised of His response to such a call from His mother and His brethren.

Jesus said: "My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it". Wow!!!

Just imagine this great response from Jesus. Jesus did that because Mary had already played her part of the script and let Him do His major assignment that He came for.

Yes! He said: "Yea, rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it"

The fact that some or the majority of people practise a tradition does not mean that such tradition should be used as our reason to formulate church doctrines. However, RCC do such to their doctrines. The fact that people are celebrating mothers' day should not make you to set up Saint Mary's Day and to make it compulsory. That is just an example. Messages of birth of Jesus Christ have now been pushed by many churches to 24th and 25th day of December every years. People tend to forget these messages before and after 24/12 and 25/12.

I do not need a special day to honour or celebrate my parents because I should as a child honour (as the Bible has said it) my mother and my father as my earthly guardians every blessed day. Everyday should be special to them from me.
NOTE: I honour them as humans but whatever honour that God deserves, I give unto Him for giving me such wonderful parents. I should do this everyday in my prayers, worships, characters, etc.

Jesus did not disown nor discredit his earthly mother at all. I did not write, have not written and will never write such things.

Yes! I love the Catholics as persons but the practices or doctrines are something else and which must be sharply, consistently and openly rebuked. Not only in RCC we have false doctrines but also in so many of the churches- the new and the old ones. The world has established itself at the centers of many churches.

Back to the issue of Mary, Jesus Christ did obey his parents in the Bible (Luke 3:51) but His parent did not understand Him or His intentions on earth (Luke 3:50).

The Jesus's reply which His parents did not understand was:
"Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?" Luke 2:49

In Luke 8:19-21, Jesus was doing His Father's business (Luke 2:49) before His mother and His brethren came again to exhibit their lack of understanding of what He said in Luke 2:49.

Instead of them (His parents and His brethren) to join the crowd and to listen to Him, if they knew His intentions on earth initially, but they were desiring to see Him, meaning, they wanted Him to leave or abandon the crowd in order to see them.
That was why Jesus replied in the presence of the crowd in Luke 8:21.
You can see again how Jesus acted as God here before His parents but not disobeying them.
