You are about to go replicate those good things in your backward region by fire by force. Foolish wanderers with no sense of belonging! You are rejected wherever you go, even your homeland reject you.

Oba Akinolu may not be right on this but the attitude of our Igbo brothers and sisters could frustrate one.

Having helped them more than what their region has done for them, instead of being grateful; their actions seem to be undermining the essence of our existence through their incendiary statements. Calling their hosts cowards- what do you want after that-fight to show we are not cowards.

Oba Akinolu is their match and that is why the situation seems difficult now.

A gentle king could be disobeyed easily but did they say anything at the palace? No. They dare not.

It was after leaving the palace that chest beating, ultimatum , etc started surfacing.

You somehow sound educated but sorry to say, not quite intelligent. Having helped the Igbos? In what way? If you must know, the Lagos ports is the only reason igbos concentrate in Lagos, just for their businesses, moreover, aren't you guys supposed to be grateful to have them around? Spare a thought and imagine a Lagos without them. They pay their taxes to enrich u, obey both federal and state laws but tribalism won't allow u guys appreciate them for a minute. The whole igbo states are open for all Nigerians and the Igbos are known to even cater and trust non-indegens more than their own. Ask any yoruba man in the east they'll tell you. So why the hate? Is Agbaje not a yoruba man? So why belittle them and command them like toddlers? An Igwe or Obi in any Igbo state can never try it anywhere, how does it even sound in your ears to make you defend this?

hey, if their crime is calling yorubas coward many yorubas commit more. Dont use that as a basis, many say igbos love money more than their lives or are ritualists, has that made anyone to make barbaric threats to the yorubas as the oba did? I understand his frustration, its because of the current political awakening going on in which pdp won some hse of reps in lagos. There are better ways to go about it than with threats. With time alot of things 'll begin to change, just like the southern nigeria voted gej out not minding he's their own unlike whats obtainable before. Its just like in football, players come from other places to outshine the locals, thats what development we clamour for brings. Its well.

Before we crucify the monarch maybe we should look at what provoked him first. The Aworis and Eguns are the rightful indigenes of Lagos. Jimi Agbaje promising the Igbos to elevate the status of Obi to that of the Oba of Lagos amongst many other ludicrous promises he made is highly provocative just to mince words. Has the Oba not been accommodating enough... Why instigated his relation against him because of political ambition?
There is a smoke behind every fire.

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has told the Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu, to apologise to the Igbo people in Lagos “without delay” over his controversial statement.

During a courtesy visit by Eze Ndigbos (Igbo traditional rulers) of all the local governments in Lagos at the Oba’s Palace on Sunday, Mr. Akiolu had said that Igbo residents in the state should cast their votes for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akinwunmi Ambode, or “perish inside the lagoon.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Mr. Falana said the Oba’s diversionary threat is totally unacceptable as it is a mockery of the political objective of national integration.

“It is illegal as it clearly offends Section 42 of the Constitution which has prohibited discrimination on grounds of ethnicity, religion, political opinion, creed or sex,” said Mr. Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

“Although the Oba lacks the power to cause anyone to ‘die in the Lagoon within seven days,’ the threat constitutes a violation of the fundamental right of thousands of citizens to life.

“In the case of Director-General of State Security Service v Olisa Agbakoba (1999) 3 N.W.L.R (PT 595) 314 it was held by the Supreme Court that ‘It is not in dispute that the Constitution gives every Nigerian citizen the right to move throughout Nigeria and to reside in any part thereof. It also guarantees to the citizen the right not to be expelled from Nigeria nor be refused entry or exit therefrom.’

“Since the residency right of every citizen is constitutionally guaranteed the Igbo people in Lagos should discountenance the threat of Oba Akiolu.”

The monarch came under severe criticism on Monday, as christian groups and opposition politicians lambasted him for his utterance.
Mr. Falana reminded the Oba that Lagos had continued to provide accommodation for Nigerians from all walks of life, a reason he said accounted for the absence of ‘abandoned properties’ in the state after the civil war.

“From time to time, armed militants and other misguided youths who unleash mindless violence on ‘non indigenes’ have always been called to order by the Government and the people of Lagos State,” Mr. Falana said.

“Indeed, the human-rights community has always kicked against discriminatory policies and ensured that all victims of human rights abuse are defended and protected regardless of their ethnic identity.
“As a senior lawyer, Oba Akiolu ought to have realized that the Electoral Act has not conferred powers on any traditional ruler or any other authority to sanction anyone for voting for a candidate of his or her choice in any election conducted in Nigeria.

“After all, before the just concluded presidential election the Oba adduced reasons why he could not endorse the presidential candidate of the APC, General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd.). He was not harassed or intimidated for exercising his freedom of choice.

“Since the Electoral Act, 2010 as amended has banned any form of hate campaign the Oba is advised to withdraw the threat credited to him and apologize publicly to the Igbo people without any delay.”

Re: Oba Of Lagos Should Apologise To Igbo People ‘without Delay’ – Falana by drealaz24(m): 8:57pm On Apr 07, 2015
The recent happenings in Lagos have created so
much tension between the Igbo and the Yoruba.
There is so much bitterness and hate talk flying
around and this will not do us any good.
When you try to break a wall using a sledge
hammer, you need to apply several blows before it
gives in. You might need to apply a 100 blows but
one thing to note is that it is not the 100th blow
that breaks the wall, it is a combination of effects
from the very first blow. This brings me to the
recent statement credited to the Oba of Lagos to the
Igbos. I condemn the statement and I believe every
right-thinking person should do the same in the
interest of peace and civility. What I want to tell my
Igbo people is that the Oba's outburst is not just as
a result of the forth-coming gubernatorial election in
Lagos but a combination of factors. I hear some of
our people calling Lagos a no-man's-land and this
is just too bad; this is the height of arrogance and
disrespect. How can we move into a Yoruba land,
enjoying God's blessings and prosperity only to turn
round and tell the people that their land belongs to
nobody, that we feed them, and that they cannot
survive without us and all the other rubbish and
provocative stuff??
Clearly the Oba has been harbouring this anger as a
result of the arrogance and provocation of our Igbo
people and just could not contain it this time and
lashed out.
My Igbo brothers, can we sit down and ask
ourselves why we have been so aggressive towards
the Yorubas? What have they done wrong to us to
deserve this provocation and arrogance? The
Yorubas are a very peaceful people and we turn
round to call them cowards and all sorts of names.
What do we want the Yorubas to do to prove to us
that they are not cowards, rise up and go on a
killing spree? These Yorubas even returned all our
properties to us after the civil war something even
our close neighbours in the SS didn’t do!
What does it take to respect your host and do as
they wish my people for Christ’s sake? We are
prosperous in Yoruba land and are enjoying the land
and have no problem with the people, all they are for
is for us to know our limits and give them their
respect is this too much to ask from us? Let me ask
my people one honest question, why are we not
shouting that Kano is a no-man’s land The Yorubas
have been very nice and taking all these insults from
us and we turn around to point our fingers in their
noses and call them cowards! Jesus! We claim to be
Christians and worship God, is it not written in the
bible that blessed are the peace makes for they shall
be called the children of God?
My Igbo people please see a sample of what is
making the Yorubas very angry with us:
1. I WILL ELEVATE EZE NDIGBO TO THE STATUS OF
OBA OF LAGOS - JIMI AGBAJE.
2. IGBO WILL DETERMINE WHO RULES LAGOS-
IFEANYI UBAH
3. LAGOS IS NO MAN'S LAND.- IFEANYI UBAH
DURING TAN CAMPAIGN.
4. IGBO DEVELOPED AND CONTROL LAGOS- JIMI
AGBAJE DURING GEJ CAMPAIGN IN AKWA IBOM
5. WE MUST PRODUCE THE NEXT DEPUTY
GOVERNOR OF LAGOS- EZE NDIGBO
MY QUESTIONS TO IGBOS,
1. CAN OBI OF ONITHSA ACCEPT ALL THE ABOVE
MENTIONED?
2. CAN EMIR OF KANO ACCEPT ....?
3. DO YOU HAVE ANY SINGLE TRIBE IN YOUR
CABINET IN THE EAST?
4. CAN ANY TRIBE CLAIM ONITHSA OR ABA TO BE
NO MAN,S LAND?
5. CAN OBI OF ONITHSA ACCEPT THE ELEVATION
OF SARKIN HAUSA IN ONITHSA TO OBI STATUS?
I want to use this medium to appeal to well-
meaning Yorubas to forgive the childishness and
foolishness of our people. Please drop any plans of
violence being planned against our people and all
other diplomatic ways of punishing our people in
your land including Lagos.
We recognise that LAGOS IS A YORUBA LAND and
will respect that. Please I appeal for calm and
understanding. I am inviting some Yorubas I respect
on this forum to help reach out to your people to be
calm, I have personally decided to start a campaign
to reorientate our people as God helps me in my
own way to change the way we think.
Even God told Moses that if he could find just 10
righteous people he will not destroy Sodom &
Gomorrah. Igbos like me are far more than 10 in
Lagos and other areas of SW. Please do not bring
out the beast in you and and please allow better
judgement prevail over emotions.
