Only those who are too foolish to understand the cunningness of Yoruba people will think that they mean well for Nigeria. Whenever a Yoruba person starts talking about peaceful coexistence and oneness of Nigeria, he has a selfish agenda to achieve. I know this fact from time immemorial that is why I always live my eyes wide open whenever I am in their midst. Fooolish bigots! 1 Like |

As a yoruba man, and one who has close ties to the throne in my hometown, I lambasted the Oba at every possible opportunity. But be truthful to yourself and I really ask you to be with my next questions. Can a non-igbo man contest and vie for any social or political posts in any state in the south eastern part of Nigeria Will he not be reminded that there are eligible sons of the soil who can take such positions? But what happened in Lagos - 6 HOA positions for the non-yoruba man. Where has that happened in Nigeria? Can that REALLY happen in your home state shizzleStar: |

skeendyke:And the blood that will flow will definitely be yours & that of people that think & talk like you; please note the Yoruba's dealt with you when you invaded Ore in Ondo State & they're waiting for you to do that same mistake & then the world Will know who is who when it comes to warfare; all your mouths won't save you people. People are silently waiting for you people to first make the move so that the Yoruba's can move you people in mass numbers. We have always lived in peace with the Igbo's & what we have accommodated no other tribe not even them can take it from fellow Igbo's. I dey beg ona make ona just try make the first move & then you will know that Hausa's dey good to ona. I exclude all Igbo's that are not tribalist as I have Igbo's that are related to me, likewise friends, colleagues etc. 1 Like |

jahjehova:Why not?? I am from anambra state. In Awka you find Hausa and yoruba speaking fluent Igbo such that you'll marvel. If a Yoruba man has dwelt in Igbo land long enough, does business and earns a living there he can vie for any electoral position. No one will remind him that he is a hausa or yoruba man as long as he is qualified as per the criteria mentioned earlier. The problem with most yoruba a folks is that they dont travel, like some people will say many of them are inherently lazy, as against the adventurous and industrious instincts of the average Igbo man. This is why i feel yoruba are the most triblastic set of people because they only want to relate and associate with themselves rather than mingle with others. 1 Like |

haibe: Quit defending the indefensible. The Oba deserves as much lashing with words as he got. Public figures are leaders and are meant to lead by good examples because that's what leadership entails. A leader isn't meant to be careless with words irrespective of what is obtainable in the society. We criticize those in authority for corruption even when we know 90% of the Nigerian populace are corrupt. Hypocrisy! Isn't it? Now ask yourself, "Who criticizes these corrupt ordinary men and women in the street"? Yet daily those in authority are being hauled criticisms and insults at. Again, "Why is it so"? Simply because they are public figures cum leaders and are meant to lead by good examples. That the ordinary Nigerian is corrupt doesn't gratify a show of corruption by those in authority, rather they should be in a fight to curb it among the populace than living it themselves. That's why they are leading afterall. Same is applicable to the oba in question which is why i disagree with your first few lines. Because tribalism is a menace in Nigeria doesn't exonerate the Oba for making tribalistic comments because he is a leader and should be involved in curbing it and not propagating it. As civil as Europe and America are, racism isn't still eradicated in their society. Some of their citizens are full blown into it but you wouldn't see their public figures making racist remarks and they are always kick against it in view to curbing it among themselves. That's what leadership is all about. Much as it's undisputable that tribalism is rooted amongst every tribe, you can't equate the effects of such comments coming from a public figure like the Oba to that coming from an ordinary man/woman on the street. Atleast this very happening and how bad it rode can go a long way to prove that comments from leaders and those from the commons ain't in the same degree effect-wise. 2 Likes |

jahjehova:Thanks. You see I like people like you; very civil, rational and with a sane mind. I'm also glad you attested to the fact that you were born and bred in igboland and speak the language fluently...perhaps even more than me ..lol and most probably you've been living there without any form of harassment or intimidation. If igbos were intolerant and not accommodating as some people who have never left SW would want us believe, i doubt if that would have been possible. How I wish many Yoruba will have free mind like you, travel out of the SW and appreciate other peoples lifestyle and culture just like Igbo are doing. @bolded, the onus is on any non-igbo person to take the bold step and come out for an elective position. Until then, we can't assume or conclude that what happened in Lagos can't happen anywhere in Igbo land. Cheers bruv! 4 Likes 1 Share |

You did not read to understand what Chimanda's excellent and analytic work. In your first paragraph you flouted her first observation in your attempt to 'sweep aside' a specific misdemeanor (? Crime) by latching unto a general or generic situation. If all tribes are capable of tribalism, why are we all not showing it to the same degree, and what qualifies some tribes to always show it more than others? Ajo nwa ka ibu! You were prevailed upon tp write what u did otherwise - spanking at home by ur yoruba husband. 1 Like 1 Share |

i do not give a damn about chimamanda tribal remark or books written on ethnic sentiment. to me she is not a good writer because most her work had underlining ethnic sentiment bloated to deceive the world about her disgruntle and hypocritical race- the igbo. the igbo can go to hell with their fake development toga. tell me how many states in the east is developed? how can a person who claimed to be good leaves his father house in ruins? they simply bastards! i can not in history remember any where the Yoruba wrote a letter to the igbo to come and develop their states rather it was the igbo that lacked good life in their states that migrated to a better place (Yoruba land) and this is the law of nature and migration. i support what ever the Oba of Lagos said without apology. Can the bastard igbo tolerates or accommodates half of the insult the igbo dish us in our land in their barren land? if not for the Yoruba, the igbo would have been history in Nigeria and by extension the world. the civil was a propaganda by the igbo to the rest of the world that the then Nigeria state wants to exterminate their race, the support of foreign counties to biafra made the war to last 2 and a half years and remember that the moment Nigeria currency was changed, the war literally comes to end head because ojukwu looted the then eastern CBN and feeds afat and waged war with Nigeria with Naija money. chimamanda wass born then. she was born in the 80s. Much as igbo try to distort reality the truth must be told that they are nothing to and will remain so until they traced their ascendency in Nigeria to their host and big brother the - illustrious sons and daughters of Yoruba. MUCH AS THE IGBO WISH OTHERWISE, LAGOS IS A YORUBA LAND AND NO AMOUNT OF MIGRATION FROM EAST TO WEST WILL CHANGE THAT OR MAKE THEM GOVERNOR IN OUR STATE. 1 Like |

angelawoko: Totally uncalled for, why? Did Chimamanda ever say that Igbo's are not tribalistic? i very much doubt that she was just expressing are displeasure at the Oba of Lagos for what he did and the fact that she is Igbo dosen't make her tribalistic yes some Igbo people in general "not me" and i most definitely do not think that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is one. You know what? I don't deny that my people are tribalistic. Why don't you accept it. I don't know what your home town is but I know one thing, no matter how long I spend there, if I dare try say it's no mans land, I am sure you will correct me. Unfortunately, I have only spent about 5 years out of my over 30 in yoruba land, so sorry, I don't stay in the enclave called Osun. I am born and bred Igbo with yoruba ancestry. Are my parents people (Yoruba) tribalistic? Yes. Are my birth people (Igbo) tribalistic? I can tell you a resounding yes. Ngokafor: |
