Self-service, Selfless-service And Nigerian Christian Morality. by plaetton: 3:48pm On Apr 28, 2015 |
Self-Service, Selfless Service And Christian Morality. How are these related to one another in our real world, especially in Nigeria ? A casual observer will note that at any given time in the front page of NL religious section, one would find many threads and OPs on Self-Service, but hardly any at all on Selfless-Service. Is the message of Jesus lost in translation, or , is there something much more pernicious going on the deep inside the psyches of Nigerian Christians? Please help me examine this disturbing distortion of moral responsibility. Let's see who is the first to comment. 15 Likes 3 Shares |

Me sef wonder o. Just as they also post about how marriages would last if women behaved a certain way but fail to note that marriages take team effort from husband and wife to work. Truth is, people filter the gospel and pick only parts that suits them and parts that they can manage to do in reality. Every other hard part is hidden and replaced with culture. 21 Likes 1 Share |

I don't even understand why they call it self service. We are all adults or most of us are. It's called MASTURBATION. That being said, masturbation might be wrong religiously speaking but outside of religion, it's okay. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Selfless-service is borne in Righteousness. Self-service is not all selfishness. There are those that are clear Directives from God in supplications and prayers in Christ Jesus. These are done in furtherance to our Lord's prayers in St. John's Gospel 17. And whenever you feel covered by that prayers, all your actions, interactions and movements, though seemingly self-centred, are righteous before God and are His Directives. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Orunto: Huh? The meat of this op is to examine why Christians, while preaching the message of Jesus, do not show 1/1000th of the level of obsession they have with self-service with Selfless service. In other words, why is Selfless Service grossly marginalized in favour of Self-Service in preaching and in discussion threads amongst Nigerian Christians. ? Did Jesus not say " Take out the log in thine own eyes before thou pointeth at the spec in another's eye " ? In other words, shouldn't your self refinement, self auditing, self redemption occupy both mind and actions of a Christian, rather than a Neurotic Obsession with what another adult might be doing in the confines of his/her bedroom ? 10 Likes |

frank317:I'm not perfect but it all bothers down to morality. I wouldn't want to pretend but it would be sickening to indirectly endorse/support masturbation. This explains why people who get involved in it seek help at some point. To consider this from a religious view point, one must be willing to provoke some degree of sexual thoughts to accomplish his/ her mission. And of course, we all know the thoughts of a man is capable of defining a man. 6 Likes 1 Share |

frank317:well before answering your question, your insult can't change my mood, because its not a new thing. You can't even speak when you see me. Jesus condemns looking at women or girls in order to lust after them. (Matt 5:28) So perving at chicks, which lots of 17 year old guys would treat as normal, is a sin and offends God. It’s easy to get sucked into a cycle which fuels sexual desire to the point where it can’t be controlled. Perving at girls at school or at the beach, looking at pornography, worst of all internet porn, all fuel desire. When masturbation leads to unhelpful sexual thinking and lust you are sinning and need to do something about it. Make the conscious, aggressive decision to look somewhere else, or go somewhere else, or turn the computer off or whatever it takes! Jesus promises that when we are being tempted, he’ll give us a way out. (1 Cor 10:13) 33 Likes 3 Shares |

emmyw: Nice u felt insulted because ur question made me feel worst. OK...the reason why you think sexual thought and selfe service is bad is because Jesus said so in the bible. Well I have read the bible too... But have u ever considered the issue? I mean have u sat down and give it some serious thiking.? I did. See what happens to me. If I am with a friend and I look at a girl, say I admire her beauty (her shape and facial structure) most times my friends would say I am a womanizer because of this. But I found out they are just projecting what they are to me. Projection is a self defense mechanism that enable one see what they really are in others. Just give them reason to see what they are in u and they quickly take the bait. This makes me wonder why Jesus thought looking at a woman lustfully is bad... Could it be that he knew he actually liked it? What is looking at a woman lustfully really? If I see a very fine car and look at it admiringly, wishing it was mine and I could ride it, is that also a sin? Why should looking and feeling that way for a pretty girl bad? Isn't it natural that if I see a well shaped girl, I should admire her and wish she was mine? Heck, I would even imagine all sorts of sex style with the damsel. Why is that sin? Did I rrappe her? Why is having sexual desire bad to God? Didn't he create us to have them? Isn't it natural instinct? Is just like saying feeling hungry is bad. Now back to self service... I think it too much indulgence in anything is bad... Be it eating rice, running, taking alcohol, drinking water and self service is bad. So when is over indulgence in self service bad? When u do do it in public places or more than ten times a day. But guy... Occasional self service and lusting after pretty women is not bad. If u think so pls prove me wrong. 20 Likes 1 Share |

frank317:is not a sin? Christians regard it as sin( but according to you) it's not a sin. Sanchez01: Both personal and societal. And when I say societal, I mean a less biased society that is not influenced by religion. Our society is biased and our morals are centered around religion that is why most people see it as stupid or shameful act. Even two consenting adults having sex is seen as a "shameful" act. Masturbation doesn't harm your body or anybody at all. It is a personal thing. So why is it not okay? Even drinking does more harm to you than masturbation. 4 Likes |

frank317: Lusting is not bad, it's a sin. The difference is that it is not bad to an atheists but it's sinful to a theist. Religion is not by force but if you choose to believe, you have to follow the rules and lusting is one of the things the bible is clear about. Now, whether masturbation is lusting, is left for you to decide. Masturbation if okay for an atheist but it's sinful to a religious person. 9 Likes |

emmyw: I said it..!!!! The biblical god too like prick business.. Imagine his followers asking such question.. .. Guy try think am....kneeling to pray is not pleasing enough, rolling on the floor to receive blessings from him is not, lying and making claims on his behalf is not pleasing enough.fasting and praying is not pleasing enough, As long as one does not squeeze his OWN genitals, or personally make her honey pot drip. Then the good lord can be pleased.. You and your god are perverts... Wetin consign bible god with how I manage my iron.. So bible god is telling me that after 3 hot rounds with my lovely wife and I still have 2 more rounds to go, and the wifey says honey, toto don tire for today.. Then I grab my ky jelly, tell the wifey to simply massage her nipples gently while I stroke my general to orgasmic explosion all over her succulent skin... Then abrahamics perverts like you will call it a sin, and a killer of infants and non virgins will find it not pleasing to his holy killer instinct.. Guy when next you kneel to pray, tell your god to try stroking his covk and stop suvking it.... He needs a wife for that... 5 Likes |

frank317: That's what I am trying to tell you bro. A sin is something that displeases God according to the bible. It doesn't matter why you think it's a sin, God says it is so it is. No man can speak for God so asking someone why something displeases God does not apply. The bible is enough reason. It's just like fornication, adultery etc. God says it is so it is because he is God. 3 Likes |

GooseBaba: The bible is first a history book then a religious book. The bible was compiled after years of archaeological findings just like any other history book you have. You have no problem believing in dinosaurs and home sapiens or the pyramids or ancient Greece or ancient Rome but when it comes to bible you start doubting. The events in the bible did take place just like any other history book. 5 Likes |
