A couple on Tuesday abandoned their four-year old child at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, and fled
The couple, in a note found on the child, claimed they were no longer able to care for the child.

Witnesses said the couple came to the hospital in the morning with the child under the pretext of coming for treatment. They then headed straight to the physiotherapy department at the administrative block of the hospital.

However, hours later, at about 12.20pm, hospital staff noticed the child was without her parents.

A search in her pockets revealed a note stating that the parents were unable to care for the mentally-challenged child.
The social welfare department of the hospital immediately contacted the police authorities.

When contacted,the medical director of the hospital, Oladapo Sotiloye, confirmed the incident.

He explained that the management had reported the case to the police, while arrangements were ongoing to transfer the girl to the state government-owned Stella Obasanjo Motherless Home.

At least they didn't kill the child or dump the child where she might die a lonely death embarassed

This is a chance for all the self righteous ones who might berate them for abandoning the mentally disabled baby to take up responsibility undecided

point is... The shoe got too painful for them to continue wearing it... so they did well to put the shoe where it may be worn by someone else, instead of throwing her in a well or killing her and dumping her in a dustbin or pit toilet

So sad. A child is a gift from God, mentally ill or not and should not be abandoned that way. I am disappointed in her parents but still, who knows what they have been through? (Financially, mentally and/or physically)

My heart goes out to the little angel and I do pray that she is well taken care of.

Just imagine!!!! Tomorrow when they can't hv any more kids, they'll blame the innocent witches minding their business n also run from one prayer house to another for a solution.

A child is a responsibility borne of physical interaction between a man and a woman.

There is no 'god' involved in that process.

I have no respect for the parents in this position but there are people all over the world who have done likewise and worse.
