based on your site location and the type of structure your are building, I will advise you to turn the project to broiler farm, it will be cheaper for you, with that structure i can not see you succeed in layer operation do to lack of adequate layer environmental control managements, unless you want to turn the operation to a free range layer option that require 5 times additional manpower and resources. when you are starting poultry farming in a small scale like yours its better to start with broiler knowing that every 28-45 days you will pull the birds without risking more on decease.

Hello, please am a student in one the university in the south east. Wish to venture to poultry, though in a little way. I believe this will avail me the opportunity to have experience in it before my graduation. I tend to start with 100 birds from a day old, I have not done poultry before so I have no experience in in it.

But I have passion for the business. Already at the external hostel where I live, my care taker has a poultry cage of a room size which she make use of once in a while. So that's where I intend to use as the pen. But my questions is, where do I begin from? What type of birds should I rare as a beginner? And what will it cost to raise 100 birds from day old till maturity in monetary terms Pls ii will appreciate all suggestion from this forum, help a student in need. Thanks

injecting laying birds will affect production. I had the experience last year when I injected the birds @ almost the same age.production droped and we lost some birds. Since then I ve been using lasota.

NB. This is my own opinion n experience. Others may ve a different view.

@ Everyone

We finall received our 3,264 POL birds. We had to move them over 2 days, Thursday & Friday. We didnt get enough movement crates and to do several trips to complete the transfer.

The birds were administered anti-stress/vitamins since arrival. No mortality recorded and they look very fine. Monitoring their feed consumption as an indicator of their stability.

Please how much (on the average) does your compounded layer feed come to? I know it depends on specific formula and location but need it as a guide.

Would try to continually update the house.

Our birds are 18 weeks old (1 week after arrival) today. Feed consumption is about 80g/bidrd/day, The birds are very healthy also.

The bird were vacinated with 3-in-1 on Tuesday.

i earlier asked how much an average compounded feed/Kg cost, but got no response yet.

Happy workers day

Happy Workers Day.
However, a farmer has no public holiday.
for compounded feed
Grower will cost between N1500-N1700 depending on your location. the formulae and the source of the ingredient/materials.
Layers mash will be between N1700-N1850 .
You may wish to consider using concentrates. (less stressful but only slight reduction in price. but looking at the now of your birds N50 -N200 savings per bag goes as long way.

a more realistic assumption.
350 layers will consume an average of 40 kg of feeds per day + wastages @ N2150 per 25kg bag =N3,440.

Laying at 70% =245eggs/day.@ N600/crates =N4900.
Profit =N1460
Monthly= 43,000.
All things being equal this is the least you could get with a standard operatnal procedures. this will increase if
1. birds consume less feeds. say 35kg
2. birds lay more as stated by eggcellent.
3. drop in feed cost and
4. you sell the eggs to retailers at higher prices
thanks
