I was very impressed when I briefly met GMB in 1984 (he was Head of State) but his policies created much unemployment and did nothing to improve infratructure.

He inherited some problems from civilian goveernment but also a strong currency and a good manufacturing sector: automobile, tyre, consumer goods etc. But he imporoved nothing. He was busy cancelling capital projects, clamping down on press freedom, closing govt departments, selective justice and applying for OIC membership.

Even the debt repayment touted did not help Nigeria because other policies weren't sound.

IBB's devaluation of currency & SAP was an attempt to stimulate the faltering economy inherited from Buhari, which didn't work.

Consumer confidence was very low. Even our frequent family visits to Leventis reduced.

My own Saturday shopping at a local supermarket for caprisonne, cakes, buscuits, and yoghurt to entertain friends in my room reduced greatly too.
