are you a feminist?

I am a woman who don't conform to the mass idea of how one's should live their life because society say so.

I am a feminist of gender equality. Most females have their father 's name and if feminism has to do with surname..we will be advocating for women NOT to take their father's surname which is NOT the case.

My stance is women do not have to take their husband's surname if they don't want to and taking surname doesn't prove ANYTHING.

It's not a new craze. It's only a means to curtail the stress of name change on documents and all that.

She can include her father's name in abbreviation. As in the first letter of her father's name can be included.

She must not put the full name except she wants to go back and marry her dad.

I totally camp with the ladies on this.... She can keep her surname and add the husband's own. It doesn't take anything away from the union... And Please Africans should not start with their traditional Rantings... I can't stand that pulease

I recently noticed that our newly wedded ladies are retaining their fathers name after marriage. You hear names like Bisi Johnson-Adekunle, Evangeline Ojukwu-Chukwuma or Halima Haruna-Ciroma. Guys can you allow this and ladies why are you doing this? grin

African men and their Egotistical reasoning.
Should you retain the name?
Shouldn't the name be first if you need to hyphenate it?
Should women dance naked around a bunch of crabs sunbathing in Ibiza?
Crap!

no wahala naa, its cos she's not from Bayelsa bearing Tamunonengiofori Alawakevwenesigha and did not marry Mr. Ditonmenekevwe in her town.
When she bears Tamunonengiofori Alawakevwenesigha-Ditonmenekevwe on her passport, she'll see whether they won't refuse her visa. angry

not new. it started from the generation of GRACE ALELE WILLIAMS........... I have nothing against it as far as my name appear next to her name or her father name.
It favors women that came from influential families and its also good for personal + family identity.... dont expect Obama children and future grand children to change their surname till 5 generations to come just because of one Mr. wanna be.

If it's not agreed by both parties, then it's not right. These are some of the 'little' issues that can cause marital conflicts. If you're married, you've left your Father and Mother, then you and your spouse are now one. Stop all these modern-day trends in marriages.
That's great analysis. You see, there are lots of crazy women with crazy attitude here. They copy the west and end up blaming us.

Its no biggie, and it also depends. I ve been working for long bfor getting married and known by my fathers name so changing it completely will be risky. It may not be recognised by ppl dat matters hence my taking on the double barrel names.

My wife answers her father's name by my permission

It is not wrong as Muslim to let your wife answer her father's name.

Her father have right over her...he gave birth to her...marrying her does not erode her father's right on her

That's why I said it should be agreed by both parties madam. Why do children bear the man's name as their last name? Because He's the head of the Household (And this is biblical) The wife bears the name of the husband as his wife. If you're married, your name is changed from Miss (which ends with your Father's name) to Mrs (Which ends with ur hubby's name) as a change in status to bear that name of the Head now. Marriage is all about understanding and communication. If that will bring about problems, then the wife shouldn't insist on bearing her Father's name at the detriment of a Peaceful home.
