I don't think that it's an issue to take husband's surname and keep maiden name. It won't change anything if you do and your marriage shouldn't suffer because of it.

Men likes to feel in power and important so they requires women to take on their name. I don't see women going around shouting "take my father's name" so why are the men shouting?

There are more important things to worry about than surname. It won't strengthen or kill your marriage. . Stupidity will!

A man told me that he left his wife because she didn't take his surname and felt she didn't love him so. People nowadays don't have a clue what marriage is and why it was created in the first place!

I am waiting for the day women will began to pay groom price, this subject will not be an issue. Don't turn culture upside down cos of education. It will only increase the number of unmarried women.

I pity some ladies here. I just didn't want to mention names. Its quiet simple everyone has a choice and no one is forcing you to get married. If you think you want change and you want to create your own experimental family as long as the man agrees that's your cup of tea. The OP question said what do you think? In my opinion my wife MUST have my name without argument. We can only talk about this issue if her mom retained her name (LOL)
Some people may wonder why I said MUST.... I respect women, and my wife has all the freedom and liberty any woman can ask for. I give her the best thing in life and we live in civilized society. But she must understand that there are difference between watching reality shows and movie to real life. I have always cautioned bringing in all this crazy fake reality show to my home. That is a no no.
Someone said if she had a wonderful father... I am a wonderful man!!! Some said if her father is rich... I am rich in my capacity!!! Some say because of her document.... There has always been a legal and easy way to do change of name and I have never heard someone being denied of positions and right because of change of name.
So ladies if you want to retain your fathers name partially and completely that should be a discussing for your man. As for me.... There is no camera in my bedroom and I am not on tv. I am a real man that wants a real home and family plus the simplest things in life.

Stop with all that mysognistic _crap! I don't know what kind of women you have been with but it wasn't me!

I have no issues with women paying for food and drinks on dates.

I have no issues with women supporting outside the home.

I encouraged it but will you let your pride turn you into a whining boy if women were to do what you said above?

It's really not a big deal to me. Personally I wouldn't allow my wife use my surname. She is not changing anything. She would still bear her father's name while I bears mine. No need for any addition of my name to hers. She doesn't need to necessarily change her name so far that doesn't stop us from being husband and wife.

It's a normal practise in England innit... grin. I don't mind, as long as my name is the main surname grin. At that rate tho, the grand children will have more 4 surnames.

If you were smart enough you would have never bothered about what I have written or about what it insinuated grin and we won't be wasting our time

Nope, I used 'dispose' bearing in my mind lots of likely situations for example a man who marries another woman or hold his mistresses in higher esteem over his wife undecided
If you were smart enough you would known when you try to make another look silly it's only natural for the person to proved otherwise. Well i understand your point of view but next time try to be positive whenever you are saying anything regarding yourself.

What is your definition of postivism? If you meant rejecting what is 'bad' and identifying with what is 'good', then we have different interpretation of what is positive and what is negative. grin

Hmmm, which craze? Its a welcome development. Atleast after all the investment ones' father has done over the years in making one a better and marriageable person, she will finally get married and U expect her to just leave everything and be ur wife. I think keeping her father's name is away of saying "am still my father's daughter and he made me what I am".

It is not a problem as long as both of you agreed on it.
Again, it doesn't change your children's name. I wanted my wife to keep he's but she decided otherwise. She is the first of five girls, all girls. I would not have seen it as a problem at all.

My mother has her maiden and married name on her documents.

It is not a new trend obviously.

How many women had their maiden name and married name on their documents then? Let's stop deceiving ourselves, we love coping the whites and that's why there are so many divorce cases in the land.

A man and a woman once married will become ONE and not one whole number, one over two (1.1/2)...

If you leave the village maybe you will see it is not a new trend. Secondly, I don't worry about what other people do....I don't run their life. Try it.

Positivism to me is when you hope/anticipate for something good not necessarily denying reality. Is like faith (the substance of things hope for,the evidence of things not seen). For instance, you can always hope to get marry to the man of you dream.

Thats how it should be. You will be identified with your father's name on judgement day.

I don't run people's relationships and don't want people to run mine. I don't care if women want their men to be alpha males...I don't care. What I am concern with is misogynistic bulls hit spewed on this thread and many others. Why do YOU and other people worry about others relationships and how they like to live it?

Why are Africans so judgemental but yet preaches the bible every chance they gets not knowing judging someone is a sin!

Every relationship isn't the same and what YOU LIKE doesn't have anything to do with the next couple. People should focus on their own relationship if they have one!

That sounds better however I think I would rather do both. I like having options. smiley, I enjoy being in control.
