My father existed. I knew him and could see him and talk to him. He did indeed force certain things on me, but eternal punishment was never something he wanted to inflict on me, no matter how stupid I was.

Neither does God. Read the story of the prodigal son in the Bible and realise that God has given every man free will which if misused can lead to eternal separation from God; I.e hell.

Of course God didn't create hell for man, he just lovingly put it along man's way and man is foolishly accidentally falling inside.

Our decisions have eternal repercussions. Its the game of life we play and can't avoid. If a man decides to live without God, the product of that is eternal damnation caused by the effect of that man's decision. God will not force himself on anyone.

Eternal repercussion which is hell. The hell Your God created for the devil. Of course God will not force himself on man 'but if man lives without God he will be thrown to hell which was created for the devil by... WAIT FOR IT... God!!!!

If you choose not to be with God, then hell is the effect of that. It's a choice. Cause and impact. There's no middle ground. Its saddening for even God but He will not comprise His holiness for popularity. That will cast all of creation into chaos if there is no recompense for the kind of life we choose to live on earth.

I don't understand how people can believe in God and I have one simple reason over all my other reasons why he doesn't exist. People say God's love is unconditional, he even killed his son (who was really himself) for us to all be forgiven? But isn't that in itself a horrendous and horrible act? If God loved us so much, why does he punish us rather than lead us down the right road? Why do hundreds of people die everyday by things they cant even control like starvation, thirst, slavery abuse and everything else on the list? Why are little children who haven't even had a chance to be born into the world and discover God born into poverty or genocide? Like what the hell? You love us so much yet you decide since Eve ate a damn fruit, we all suffer.

Fine with me. I have zero interest in such a god. But religion is all man-made anyway.

But only one is rational. That handed over to man by God. The writer of Ecclesiastes says one shouldn't be to wise in their eyes (paraphrase). E.g like baby no 1 the logical thoughts only.

If I had the foresight to KNOW my son will "freely" make choices that will certainly take him to hell, i.e. he will BURN FOR ETERNITY... I would be an extremely evil parent to go ahead with his birth. What will be the point of that? I will abort him the minute I knew and save him eternal suffering.

God's plans for us are good. That's why He gave us free will. Like any parent, no matter the amount of Love lavished on a child, the child's decision still has a lot to do with where he ends up. Like I said, God TAKES no pleasure in the death of the unrighteous.

God doesn't run an authoritarian regime; although he could. The plan hasn't been scuttled but will come to fulfillment when the times are complete with Jesus being crowned King of kings.
