I really am sorry to burst your bubble but what is more important to me is fluency in Nigerian languages.If a woman is excellent in Yoruba or any other Nigerian language that is sufficient for me.Sadly many Nigerians have a complex about English because it is usually,in Nigeria,a reliable proxy measure of social class. Many were tormented in school for the mildest solecisms and perhaps were scarred for life by the experience.This is one thing I admire Hausas for. We are not English people and never will be. It really is excruciating to observe the cringe-worthy efforts many Nigerians make to Anglicize themselves.Please stop,it is pathetic.Learn to read and write proficiently or even expertly in your mother tongue. I have never met an Englishman,and I have met many, who laughed because a foreigner spoke bad English.
As Obesere once said when questioned about his poor English; " se awon Oyino gbo Yoruba ni"?
When it comes to dating you can,I presume,only date someone with whom you can communicate so if English is your only language then perhaps there is no choice . Many Nigerians would happily marry a white person who only speaks French,German,Dutch etc or even one whose English is very broken but would not make the same concession for Nigerians though arguably a Nigerian with no English is likely to come from a poorer background
