To me the problem is not the North but those cowards who are also in the Southern Region are the problem.

The sat on the fence and watched the Biafran-Nigerian War like a movie scene waiting to join the winning side.
They just helped their masters attain the seat of power as always and I kno judgement day is coming wen they wud realize wat they hav done and retrace their steps.

As for me and ma peeps, we look forward to a day wen this referendum wud be held and we down South wud say Arios Nigeria.

Long live ma Biafran peeps
Long live the Ijaw Race and the entire SS/SE.
God bless all Jonathanians.

It is a twin fight. Referendum for Biafra/Lower Niger on one hand and True Federalism with at least 50% derivation formular on the other hand. We can not continue in this destructive path

True fiscal federalism is very good especially for non-natural resources but Nigeria's problem lies more with corruption than resource control. Let us try Buhari 1st and see what happens before we give up hope.

Note, This is not just about SE/SS...with the new change in INEC PVC; no region again will have president unless north sanctions it...isn't this another form of slavery

Wish you all the best, catalonia has been at the UN before i was born, same for Palestine. Again good luck while uduagan, Orji, dickson, elechi continue the looting spree and you point fingers to the north.

Any close observer of the polity post-election would have seen more the actual reason for "get Jonathan out of the way election". From the comments of Mohammed, Shamshudeen to that of Sen. Dansadau etc and people will still come here to tell me about how Jonathan was voted out due to non-performance. Since when did we become so averse to non-performing leaders of which Jonathan doesn't fit the list. Some lords felt that Jonathan was fast making them to lose relevance hence they needed to reinvent themselves politically coupled with oil block licencing cum population census of 2016. To this a powerful propaganda machinery was needed to brainwash the smart by half majority. It's a truism that outside Jonathan, most of these men has been part of Nigeria misrule since 1978 till date. A journey through our history shows a country held hostage by its own and forced to be moving in circles. Why can't there be new leaders? Why can't we have true fiscal federalism? Why can't we regionalize this country? Why is the burden of ONE Nigeria always on the South?

Nzeogwu & co believed due to post election crisis in SW, that they can rescue ONE Nigeria, but they plunged the eastern part into paying 'debts' unending.

Ironsi believed in ONE Nigeria, and his blood was used to wash the streets.

Isaac Boro screamed and cried for same injustice but was muscled out.

Saro Wiwa came to the stage but his blood was used to entertain the oligarchs.

Ojukwu decided to challenge the anomaly engendered by barefaced rape of our sanctity to life and association but was confronted with more blood on our streets and made a fugitive in his supposed fatherland.

Yes, subsequently Easterners were subjected to the background after the gift of 20pounds as punishment for "no victor; no vanquished". Some of their people were used as baits to whittle down the genuine demands and general wellbeing of majority by giving them crumbs called political appointments. While NigerDeltans were brainwashed through series of well oiled propaganda to see the Igbos as their enemies and root cause of their problem. While the alien term SS came into being to copiously highlight the divide always.

SouthWest were made heroes of their fellow southern brothers woes; but unfortunately were eaten by same tiger they fed. Awolowo was stampeded even to death. And Abiola who had national appeal was not allowed to be. Finally, he became a story and a sentence in the past amidst laughter from the lords of Nigeria.

Obasanjo thrived with the hides and shadow of late Shehu Yar'adua(progenitor of the powerful Kaduna mafia). He is a cat with nine lives. He had his bread buttered by the gods but choose to dine with devil and became lord of demons. Blood of the innocents especially from the creeks cries around him for vengeance.

And now, came Jonathan not an Igbo but from a background feeling the pangs of pain and marginalization like Igbo. He gave so much to pacify these internal colonialists and oligarchs at the expense of developing his region but was rejected, framed as corrupt notwithstanding the reputable; "Transparency International" verdict vindicating him. He was humiliated out of office. We all know our position back in the years.

In all, Jonathan didn't just lose. We lost too. It may not be easy to see any Southerner rise to that post in the near future without some radical breakthrough. Forget
the noise and empty rhetorics of people like Rochas Okorocha and co. Boys talk; men act.

The North by the smart machinery instituted by Prof. Attahiru Jega would always determine and decide who rules Nigeria notwithstanding the voting pattern down South. Irrespective of South's discontent with government in power; unless North decide otherwise the government MUST persist.

What slavery is more than this?...Read the dailies and cry for the future because these people we term "aabookiii" ruled all my ancestry, my grandfather, my father and now myself, with the country bastardized and in shambles. When will it all end with all the sycophants, and many smart by half people down South?

Is it too much to ask if Nigeria is reduced to regions with a weak central government?

The cries and shrills of Elder Godsday Orubebe in that INEC hall echoes in my heart...

rubbish.

There is nothing there to understand. There is no region in Nigeria that has been so close to the north that always control the central government like the South South. Why is the loss of Jonathan now makes you feel you have an enemy in the north. From 1979 to date the same parties control the centre and the South South. In 1979, Shagari's NPN at the centre controlled Rivers and Cross Rivers State. PDP at the centre has been controling the South South states since 1999, except Edo that went to AC (now APC) around 2008. For 16 years, you are just noticing there is a Kaduna mafia? You need some rest.
Seriously these people are just a bunch of political lightweights. In 2011 when GEJ won the SW and the PDP lost in the SW gubernatorial elections, the SW did not practice regional politics right? When the PDP failed massively and Nigerians decided to change and vote for someone they have rejected and only accepted because of the massive failures of the GEJ led PDP government, they remember that they are being discriminated against.

Sometimes instead of typing, I just laugh my head off.

As much as I agree with ur submissions, there are so many things wrong with structural settings of the country.

1) The population of the Northerners (as claimed)
2) The Constitution (its not just favorable)
3) The Senators (the north has the majority)

The 3 factors play a major role, if truly we would like to do something differently.

But my gross with Jonathan was that he pacified them for so long & also not using the opportunity of the Senate (who's leader are loyal to him) in turning things around.

God bless Nigeria!

Truth be told, confab didn't arrive at that conclusion but they did quasi-restructuring of the country...which most representatives of the north were against...Remember, the mandate to them including those in PDP was to protect the interest of the North not Nigeria...Coincidentally, the confab report was pro-nigeria but anti-north...So what again do you expect them to do if not to kill the report...how do you kill the report easily?...Get Jonathan out of the way...With this they restrategized and keyed into Jagaban's thirst for national influence....
Yet Jonathan has been effecting last minute changes and implementation of policies. Why did he not implement the confab report? You people need to do some soul searching.

You couldn't have put it any better, many people down South didn't realise what the issues were. They bought into the sleek slogan of "change".
The North are truly the most sophisticated region in terms of political and economic awareness.

Our fight for referendum or true federalism would make GEJ's loss a blessing in disguise.

And in all their finesse in politics, they still manage to hold down the greater majority by making them remain stark illiterate. Reaping enormously from the centre and shared regularly among the same crop/names.

Is it a coincidence that this awareness was suddenly kindled upon Jonathan's loss? If GEJ had won and the SS continued to rule for a total of 10 years, add 8 years SW rule, do you realize the North (3 geo-political zones) would have ruled for only 2 years out of the 20 years of our democracy (1999-2019)? If the focus is on good governance which GMB espouses you worries about the ethnicity of elected officials would not be your primary concern.
That is the problem of the south (SW, SE and SS). They see themselves as being different in their quest for political power at the centre. This is the reason why the whole of the 18 southern states don't have a governors' forum. The north which more ethnic groups and religious diversification drop their differences to wrestle power.

However, investigations and details from Okah's bail hearing
reveals a complex web of intrigue between Okah and top aides of
President Goodluck Jonathan.
A source close to Okah's family said that two weeks before the
twin blasts to marred Nigeria's 50 th Independence Day
celebrations, one of Jonathan's closest confidants, Elder Godsday
Orubebe, the Minister of Niger Delta paid a secret visit to Okah in
South Africa.
The source said Orubebe made it abundantly clear he was there
on behalf of Jonathan.
Orubebe was hosted to a dinner by Okah and his wife during
which he allegedly told Okah that President Jonathan needed his
assistance and cooperation for his presidential campaign. Okah
and Jonathan are not strange bedfellows. They are both from
Nigeria's Bayelsa State.
Okah had told prosecutors that Nigerian Government through
Orubebe requested for the quote for guns and requested a second
quote from the South African Government. The purchase of guns
and ammunition for the militant group.
Re: Before The Spirit Of Orubebe Dies... by PassingShot(m): 12:43pm On May 15, 2015
The problem I have with your post is postulating that Jonathan didn't lose as a result of his performance. The facts and figured are there for all to compare with his immediate predecessors and judge. When we look at our current GDP, ECA, SWF, security, high profile corruption cases and infrastructural development and compare with what his regime earned in its 5.5 years, and compare the stats with Yar'Adua's and OBJ's tenure, we MUST accept that GEJ failed.

Did OBJ perform to expectations? The answer is a capital NO. Was late Yar'Adua delivering the goods? I'll score him 60%.

Agreed that GEJ paid the price for PDP's 16 years of misgovernance but he contibuted 5.5 of those 16 years.

Now to the part of true federalism, restructuring and all what not, I'm personally not bothered as much by it. It's good to think that things will be better with 100% autonomy but facts on ground do not lend credence to such believe.

In one of my recent posts on a similar thread, this was my submission:
PassingShot:

@ the topic, I see that you, just like many other SSners will prefer to have an independent nation with the SE if you cannot achieve full resource control. With every sense of good intent, I say to you that neither of your two preferences will still achieve for your region what the current arrangement has not achieved for it.

I say this based on the following facts:
1. The ND region currently enjoys higher monthly allocation than any other region of the country by virtue of the additional 13% for being the owner of the crude oil.
2. There is a special ministry of Niger Delta for the sole purpose of looking into developing the area by the FG. The ministry is usually headed by an indigine of ND region.
3. There is the NDDC especially created for comprehensive development of the ND region. Even though its activities are similar to the ND ministry, the NDDC gets seperate budget for its programs.

My question now is, has the ND region witnessed the type of development one would expect from that area given the amount of monies that have been sunk there through the three special means explained above since they were created? Your answer is as good as mine.

My summary is that, full resource control will not guarantee the development craved for by ND region if the citizens of the region continue to fail to hold their leaders to account.
Today in ND, Ibori is still celebrated by a cult followership. Alams was pardoned by GEJ. GEJ in almost six years didn't do much for the same region. In fact, Bayelsa state didn't see any significant improvement during his tenure as president.

Likewise, an independent SE/SS nation will create more problems (and possibly war) between the two regions. Just take a look at what is currently happening in South Sudan after their seperation from Sudan. What happened with East Germany after seperation from Germany?

Lastly, I do not mind if Nigeria peacefully disintegrates. I am sure that SW where I come from is capable of holding their leaders to accounts better than any other region. SW was the leading critic of OBJ as Nigerian president and we will not hesitate to call the bluffs of our kings if they take unpopular stands. Can this be said of the SS and SE? I very much doubt it.

Just as an aside, I lived in Delta stae for over ten years and I have a good knowledge of how their leaders place personal interests over and above collective interest of the people than that of SW.
