The tallest of the wives, the second standing from the right has a modern babe's body. Flat tummy, good bréãsts, tall, an hourglass shape; she could pass for a model.
King Jaja has eyes for good women.

Slave mentality!
The white man did not bring civilization, we have always had it, in those days, hardly was there crime, morality reigned hard.

The white maltreated your ancestors and put them into slavery.

Oh, Igbo women are naturally light skinned wink. I feel like mocking the tribalists today
This is a black and white picture. I have seen black/white picture where the igbo individual was described as being extremely lighskinned. Apparently, photographers have better things to do than focus on skin shades.

That's true. Our Igbo isn't mainstream but we hear other dialects.
And the Igbo we speak was formed because of the trade in Palm oil with the people of Ndoki and Azumini. We learnt the language because of trade.

The main language in Opobo is supposed to be Ibani which is akin to what is spoken by the Kalabari but Alas, almost everyone speaks our dialect of Igbo now.
However, a conscious effort is being made to bring back Ibani as a language understood and spoken by Opobians.
zendy:
Some people may not know it but King Jaja of Opobo was an Igbo slave from Orlu in present day Imo state who was sold into slavery. I read somewhere that they still speak some form of Igbo in Opobo.

The present Amanyanabo of Opobo is a direct descendant of King Jaja. He's the fifth person to seat on the throne. King Jaja was the first.
nwaanambra1:
where are his blood lineage today? do they still exist? or the British wiped them all out? undecided
Re: King Jaja Of Opobo And Wives In The 1870s [ Location: Rivers State ] by TheRealAdonye(m): 7:39am On May 21, 2015
Not all Jajas are direct descendants of King Jaja. A lot of people who accompanied him on the trip to found Opobo took his surname as a sign of respect.

No igbo dialect is mainstream apart the ones adopted as central igbo dialects. There are opobians with igbo ancestry,i don't expect them to take up Ibani language.

King jaja was Igbo?
[color=#1980BC] Ofcourse yes,He was an igbo from our own river basin, how do you suppose he became a big chief middleman with exclusive european trading rights on firearms, firewhisky, slaves and palmoil?Only a strategic business thinker can have extensive contacts reaching deep into the igbo heartland down to the coast across different clans and trade routes up to the ports of Liverpool,Rotterdam,Southampton,Lisbon etc.Even to this day,his birthplace people and region are still in the business of supplyin 100% of Nigeria's palm oil need.
