Some people may not know it but King Jaja of Opobo was an Igbo slave from Orlu in present day Imo state who was sold into slavery. I read somewhere that they still speak some form of Igbo in Opobo.
they speak fluent igbo, and yes,his decendants are among the ruling class in Opobo.

King jaja was Igbo?

Yes...he was taken as a slave when a young child...and sold to a prominent Ijaw family...which he served well...and from which he won his freedom.

NTA did a hour length feature on King Jaja some years ago...which included a visit to the village....including the original compound where King Jaja originated from. The village is in Imo State.

Looking at the way King Jaja's queens are dressed, can't help but say the way the female student from CRUTECH dressed for a cultural parade last week (baring her bosoms) was right after all.

Slave mentality!
The white man did not bring civilization, we have always had it, in those days, hardly was there crime, morality reigned hard.

The white maltreated your ancestors and put them into slavery.
Blacks were selling each other into slavery and you call that civilization? what about the inter-tribal wars that were raging on? Whether you accept that fact or not we were a semi-primitive people. And who says there is no morality in the modern day? ever heard of ethics as a branch of philosophy? Or is it the Patriarchal practices and misogynistic tendencies?

There was a lot of slavery(I refer to internal slavery...not the Atlantic slave trade), wars, and exploitation back then.

King Jaja was kidnapped and sold into slavery as a child. Sure he turned out well....but did that have to happen?

If you all were born in that era,you wouldn't even waste your time to think about breast. There was enough morality in those days. Bosom was regarded as nutrition for infants and children. The coming of the whiteman ushered in the concept of regarding a woman's breast as a Sexual object. Their wrapper was large enough to cover their breast but exposing it,is not a sign of undevelopment.
Ever wondered why there was low crime rates before Western civilization? People of that era guided their thoughts and minds. Look at how people have gone haywire on this thread just a few years after the white man left.

He's not from Orlu, he's from Amaigbo in Nwangele LGA. I have personally been to his village where he was kidnapped and sent to Opobo. Saw massive pots and slave chains used in the slave period. A former minister of foreign affairs, Prof Walter ofonagoro is from there. It's about 45 minutes drive from Owerri. Because he had such a great legacy in Opobo, people from Opobo love visiting his home town.

Sorry o,all these things are still prevalent in Western countries. Before Trans Atlantic slave trade,Blacks were selling White people. When you are talking about Semi-primitiveness,just mention yourself.
