No photo at that time in the north, but every person with functioning brain known that 80% of northern tribes have been wearing clothes, for more than a thousand year. Why do you think we have the second largest slaves population after America, they were use in Cotton plantation. We use to have the largest textile industry pre-colonize sub Sahara Africa. So yes 100% sure my ancestors don't look like this.
. Rubbish, I stay in the north, Adamawa/taraba were some communites still go about their business uncladed

Some people may not know it but King Jaja of Opobo was an Igbo slave from Orlu in present day Imo state who was sold into slavery. I read somewhere that they still speak some form of Igbo in Opobo.

The 2 languages spoken in Opobo are Igbani (from when Jaja lived with the Manila Pepple House in Bonny Kingdom) and Igbo language from his native Igbo roots.

"Then, there were morals and communal living; civilization took that and brought competition, finally turning us against each other"

Oh well, that happens to be one of the numerous disadvantages of civilization.

fr3do:

Slave mentality!
The white man did not bring civilization, we have always had it, in those days, hardly was there crime, morality reigned hard.

The white maltreated your ancestors and put them into slavery.

Myy ancestors? Ehmmm, and who told you Jaja was Yoruba? undecided

Btw, I'm sure you know the definition of civilization, slaves still exists, but do they go unclad like these ones? Things have changed over the years.

Helo Mr. Vicky. I would like to know what you mean by "thanks to civilization". Thanks in advance :-)

I take it to mean, you're asking a rhetorical question, but I'm still gonna answer you.
The invention of Bra to cover those stuffs is civil enough. Slaves still exist, but they dont go bare like they used to.

Btw, I'm not Mr. Vicky undecided

King Jaja's son, Sunday married a white woman (Scottish to be exact) and they gave birth to MacPepple (Jeki the 3rd) who was a white man in all ramifications and that's how the Kingdom started having fair princes and princesses.
No wonder the current King Dandeson looks like half-cast. Thanks for the info anyway.

Western Civilization. We both know it brought about urban development and social stratification.

So, the cities of precolonial Nigeria and the hierarchical societies that came with them do not qualify as 'urban development' and 'social stratification'?
