Nigeria has this tendency to shut down politicians that dream big. So I laugh cheesy, we want change but rather than listen to politicians like this guy we listen to those that go buy stoves for the country.

First blunder was saying he introduced it, really? introduced it? I guess Ben Murray Bruce is now Elon Musk.

Then like everyone else has said, where's the electricity to charge it? I don't think a lot of thought went into that tweet.

I've seen a couple of Elon Musk's Tesla cars. Very beautiful, sleek and always driven by rich people. Because it's an expensive car.

So how does Sen. Murray-Bruce expect the common Nigerian (who can't afford a Range Rover jeep second-hand) to buy a brand-new Tesla?

And what is he to use to power it?

Ben Murray-Bruce is finally showing his privilege, not all the pandering crap he has been spewing these last few weeks. Refreshing, honestly.

Dude, the cheapest electric car is beyond 80% of the Nigerian's pay grade. Why not fix power, industrialiase the country, upgrade our economic spending power, and see if we would be so pathetic?

Both ideas were silly, but the clean gas stove is more relevant to Africans (it's a basic need) and at least if we construct that in Nigeria, we use up our waste to make brickets and ginger our manufacturing base.

We are 20 or more years from even assembling an electric car

Well what he claims to have "introduced" is actually a Kia, so it definitely isn't as expensive as a Tesla but still far from reach of the average Nigerian. Most important thing is how do you charge this?? Where's the power?? These politicians are so removed from reality it's not even funny. Most of these guys have 24hr power, whether it's power from the distribution company or from their gen doesn't really matter, all they know is office or home they turn on the light and it's there.

Hhehe... silly. Without the dream to have electric cars on our streets which are affordable, where will the motivation to "fix power, industrialize the country and upgrade our spending power" come from? Won't we keep settling for gas stoves - the basics - until we start listening to people who dream?

If you think of it, his idea is NOT unrealistic, it's simply an idea which is so removed from Nigeria's present reality that majority of Nigerians on reading it reject the idea as ever being possible. In doing so don't we realize that we're also rejecting the possibility of solving the immediate problems that hinder us from achieving the dream of electric cars for all? What if he has in his head solutions to solve the immediate problems hindering his dream from being achieved within the next three to four years? Or is that not possible?

Honestly I think Nigerians should support such a senator because he's the type that will be thinking ahead when introducing laws or voting on them, to consider whether such a law or bill places Nigeria on a path to real change.

It's unfortunate that when we are presented with a brilliant idea we fail to acknowledge it. Electric cars are not meant for everybody, but the reality is that up to 30 percent of car users in Nigeria, including our corrupt politicians can afford these cars and charge them with their heavy duty generators (where there's no electricity from mains). If this is achieved, a huge chunk of fuel consumers would have been out of the equation thereby making more fuel available to us the masses. In any case, if we manage to charge our phones without electricity from mains, charging cars shouldn't be much of an issue, should it?

The cheapest electric car is over $12, 000 (a Renault), a 2 seater with no luggage space. Is that what we need? We've not developed our interstate seaports and rail system.

Which Is more important, providing electricity for us to buy govt-subsidised electric cars or providing electricity enough to run industries, power the consumption grid and make sure no-one ever has to die on a hospital bed because there was no light and no fuel (which is happening right now)?

Which is your more pressing need? fancy transport or basic healthcare and a decent-paying job?

Ask yourself why more developed countries are struggling to adopt electric cars en-masse and then go outside and take a look at your surroundings. Would that electric car be a comfort to you RIGHT NOW or would having constant power at home, a good job, a safe environment and working hospitals with good schools not make more impact?

When Nigeria was launching satellites and you were all lauding it, I said it was a pipe dream to boost your egos. Because it had no immediate benefit to us and was a WANT (not necessary as of this period) vs a NEED (a basic necessity in order to survive).

An electric car in Nigeria is a want, a pretty ego-boosting, thumping of chest, fake-Giant of Africa want. Not a need.

first of all, dt car uses electricity as well as solar energy to charge its battery. Mr bruce is highlighting the importance of solar energy as a means of electricity.

I guess u all missed that.

Have you all thought Ben Bruce was talking about Electric car that is charged from Solar energy? As in Solar being converted to Electric energy cos I'm aware he bought a Solar enabled Kia Soul the other time...

My issue with this is d cost of it but not what people are saying on his tweeter page about charging via electricity. The car probably functions just like the normal solar inverter.

I have said times without number, this ben bruce lee fellow is rarely in touch with reality, he is a megalomaniac.

How much is an electric car btw?

Put this fellow as an executive of a state, then it will be tales of white elephant projects, and building castles in the sky.
