Just all his substandard projects.. I think its time Anambra state government hired reputable construction firms to handle its projects. Is it a crime for firms like setraco, juluis berger, rcc, arab contractors etc to work for APGA governments? I'm tired of seeing all these narrow single lane roads without pedestrian walks all over the state making the state look like nothing but a big village. We cant compare roads done by Setraco during Ngiges tenure to the substandard roads done by the mushroom idc company. I know obiano is initiating bold projects in the state but if the execution looks like that of Peter obi then there wont be any difference

Freeglobe,
IDC is not mushroom company. I also had a somilar impression about them in the past. They may be smaller than the companies you mentioned but they have proven themselves to be capable of delivering high quality jobs.
They have continued to prove that they are capable of quality projects in the Awka bridges and the upper Iweka express roads. The problem with Anambra in the past was that our leaders did not insist on high quality finishing. For instance, they will build roads and gutters by the side, but the gutters edges are much higher than the level of the road surface, so when it rains, the gutter is dry while the road is flooded. Our leaders don't insist on road marking nor sweeping of our roads. So sand takes over all our roads 2 days after commissioning. Nowadays I don't see that type of crappy construction and poor finishing in Anambra. Although the ugly practice is still there.

In building structures, our governors also expose their poor taste. Except for Abuja and Lagos, it appears our governors are afraid on insisting in aesthetically pleasing designs. I saw a mall and hotel constructed in a small town of Mwanza in Tanzania. The cost of their mall is less than the Onitsha mall and hotel, yet you need to see the architectural design of the buildings.

Some IDC roads are solid but the problem I have with them is that their finishing is always poor even their upper iweka flyover because till date they are yet to change all the old rails that's why obiano fire them and hire another company to finish the gardens and roads that surround zik's mausoleum(old road).

I like some local contractors that build roads especially CCC because their job is always up to task and Ngige also use them during his own tenure.
The roads they built at alor are still standing with zero pot hole, the road they built that connect otolo nnewi-utuh-ukpor is still fresh and new.

Just like cuche said "IDC is owned by a power broker that's why they normally built nonsense and still get new contract"

Buddah my brother, please continue speaking up. Don't be deterred by the numerous yoruba monikers that hate and would want to ridicule objective and strategic thinking Igbos like you. In Nigeria, everyone thinks about how to site things within their region and state EXCEPT Igbos. Then they cry loudest when such is burned to the ground by irate mobs especially in the north. I remember in one of Chikason's speaches, he mentioned that he lost half of his profit by siting his groundnut oil factory in Nnewi than Kano. Luckily for him, his factory is still survivng today while another Igboman that had a vegetable oil factory in Kaduna was destroyed and burnt to the ground in 2000! Now who was smarter? Chikason that took lower profit margin but safeguarded his investment for his children or the Igbo industrialist in Kaduna that made a lot of money, but today his factory no longer exist?

Like Aguiyi Ironsi that refused to acknowledge that a coup could happen to him, many Igbos simply cannot learn until it is too late. Those that want to invest in Yoruba and hausaland without anything to fall back on in their state can continue to do so. Yorubas and even the Oba of Lagos have told them that they will end up in the Lagoon, but they'd rather laugh it off. i am watching them in 3D goggles. i just don't want anyone coming back to cry "had i known" to me.
This is the time to READ the hand writing on the wall and act wisely.
I'm surprised to read that Chika made such a comment. It may well be he was playing to the emotions of his audience. Chika is a thorough bred Nnewi trader with a profound love for investing in Nnewi dating back to his first break-through in 1979. The Vegatable oil project was even meant to be built at Enugu state in 1985 where his former inlaws granted him hectares of land on free-hold which he rejected and opted to buy somewhere in Nnewi.

His Tank farm at Apapa Lagos is just because he had no choice.

Onitsha is another city he loves and is always fond of because of his humble beginings at Ochanja market where he once sold fishing nets. It was at Onitsha in the early eighties that he first acquired vast real estate.
So for Chika of all people to tell any gathering that he would have sited his Life Vegetable Oil in Kano for what ever reason, is being economical with the truth. He is and has always been a conservative business man who had always been conscious of opportunities and threats.

IDC has proven with some projects that they were capable of delivering on quality. The fly over at Aroma, Kwata have some quality.
It boils down to the personality of the Governor, when you have a Governor who is straight forward and who insists on quality, the contractors will key in
Obiano could still request that projects awarded at standardized costs be done anyhow by the contactors while pocketing a third of the contract sum. But no, he wants quality
Let me not talk about Mr Peter Obi roads, I don't know if he had conscience at all, could you believe that roads he did 3 years ago already have pot holes, with litters of rubbish and sand after rain

Concerning the Tanker fire at Onitsha, I think it is hightime we banned Tankers and Heavy duty vehicles from moving freely within the State at Day. This should be a good reason for Obiano to act and solve this once

In many states with commercial inclinations, tankers, trailers even tippers are not allowed movements within the city as from 6 am through 9 pm. It is a law; the incessant accidents with heavy casualties were brought to the minimum

You know i had to google that to check out the facts.

Yes, Mwanza mall costs $37 million dollars (http://www.punchng.com/business/homes-property/construction-begins-on-mwanza-shopping-mall/ )
Onitsha mall $30 million dollars . (http://m.newshunt.com/africa/english-newspapers/the-nation/business/more-modern-markets-emerge_27767940/997/c-af-l-english-n-nationon-ncat-Business )

Anyhow, it was waaay bigger and nicer than Onitsha mall for just $7 million dollars difference.
Truly, our leaders don't care about iconic buildings. Once, they build a square box shaped building, they are fine with it. BTW, paying more than the well designed iconic buildings we see in even smaller and poorer African countries.

A fraction of the size.

Nnewi-based football club Ifeanyi Ubah demonstrated its preparedness to win all the laurels in the nation’s football industry when it trashed Cardinal Arinze FC of Onithsha 4-0 yesterday in the final game of the Anambra State Football Association Neros FA Cup, played at the Nanka Neros Stadium.

The action-packed encounter saw the Nnewi side dominate play with two goals in each half to separate both sides.

Solomon Enudi got the curtain-raiser for Ubah 20 minutes into first-half, after a beautiful run through the defense of their opponent, while Oluchukwu Nwosu doubled the tally in the 40th minute.

Excited spectators who thronged the stadium to wathc the side win could not hold back their cheers and, after play resumed in the second half, the Cardinal Boys, as they are fondly called, struggled to stamp their authority on the game, but fell apart to hand Okereke Maduabuchi the opportunity to net a third for Ubah.

Stephen Chukwudi put the game beyond the reach of the Onitsha side with his 87th minute goal to put the final score at 4-0.

A football fan, Ejike Anukwu, who spoke with journalists after the match described Ifeanyi Ubah FC as “a team to beat” and commended the proprietor of the side, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah, for “assembling a team that would make Anambra state proud in the national league and the challenge cup competition”.

Ubah Restates Commitment To Club

Following the victory, the club’s proprietor, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, restated his commitment to make the team one of the best in Africa.

Ubah, who spoke to newsmen after the friendly game between the Golden Eaglets (U-17) and the Anambra Warriors (the feeder team of IUU) played at the FIFA’s Goal Project, package ‘B’ of the National Stadium, Abuja, assured that he is committed to the investment in sports development, because he intends to use the affiliation of the club to seven European clubs to build structures that could help develop the club and the nation’s teams.

“[This win] is the result of the training and hard work. We are very sincere about this investment in sport. We just came into the NPFL and, before the start of the season, we went for a tour of Europe, where we won all seven of our games.

“We are building one of the best turves in Nnewi and three other pitches. It will have accommodation that can host close to 200 players, day in, day-out. We discover that using the same complex for the main team and the feeder team will distort their training pattern. We want them to concentrate on development and at the same we have so many foreign partners from over the world. So we need to develop the feeder team, academy and the club.

“The team is working hard and I don’t want them to lose concentration that is why we are relocating the feeder team to the academy pitch which the board just approved last week. Everybody target is to win the league and for us that is our target,” he stated.

Part of the strategy for denying Igboland investment (even from her own peoples) is the fact that we lack real international access in short times. Businesses lose money when they lack that access.
I often wonder why our people can't see or understand this simple war strategy used on us by our enemies.

One more thing the business men can do is to lobby the state government HARD to enact laws that enable them to build that international airport. Lekki international airport is coming up, and the FG has zero funds in it.
When our business men become enlightened they would realize that it is the private sector that build key infrastructure NOT government.
Part of why Nigeria has failed is because the FG wants to spoon feed even local governments.
A lot of Nigerians don't know that it was individuals that built the first rail lines and bridges in the US.
Igboland can never really develop if our business men don't understand this.
And because we are targeted for strangulation, this enlightenment is even a matter of do or die.
I hope we get there SOON.

Heavy duty trucks to be banned from plying State roads during the day

Anambra State Government is to ban Heavy duty trucks from plying state roads in a renewed drive to secure the lives of the citizenry and check the massive damage they cause on the roads.

Governor Willie Obiano made this known after visiting victims of yesterday’s fire accident resulting from break failure by a tanker carrying Automobile Gas oil, AGO at Asaba Park, Upper Iweka, Onitsha.

Governor Obiano, who arrived the scene of the accident which claimed many lives, thirty munities after it occurred, later visited Toronto Hospital, Onitsha to sympathise’ with the victims where he promised that the state government will bear the cost of their treatment.
The Governor, while noting that government will soon announce the approved roads which the vehicles will henceforth ply, further said relevant agencies have been directed to regularly stop and check the heavy duty vehicles to ensure that they are in good condition while sales and consumption of Alcohol and hard drugs have been banned at the parks.

He recalled that his administration has last month inaugurated the state emergency management board, SEMA, to coordinate emergency response activities in the state, adding that the prompt arrival of the fire brigade and ambulances, has ensured that the casualty rate was reduced maximally.

Describing the incident as a big tragedy, Governor Obiano said his administration is working in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corp to introduce initiatives that will help minimize road mishaps, some of which include installation of road signs and speed limits as well as marking of the roads.
He called on the public to compliment Government efforts at making the road safer by complying with traffic rules and ensuring their vehicles are road-worthy.

Speaking at the park, an eyewitness, Mr. Chidiebere Eze, narrated how the tanker driver tried unsuccessfully to steer the vehicle into a nearly ditch before it hit the conveinence at the park and exploded, noting that over fifteen commercial buses were totally burnt by the inferno.
Some other persons who spoke to the ABS, including Messrs Kanayo Ifesinachi and Vincent Oderah, bemoaned the huge loss of lives and property caused by the accident and appealed to government to ban such heavy duty vehicles from plying in the day time.
According to them, this will ensure that the roads are free for them at night as well as reduce the number of causalities in the event of any mishap.

As at twenty minutes to eight last night, when the ABS left the scene of the accident, the inferno had been put under control with rescuers removing debris from many vehicles involved in the accident.

Kaita Signs For Gabros FC

By: SD Reporter on May 31, 2015. Super Eagles fringe midfielder Sani Kaita has joined newly promoted Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club Gabros FC on a season loan deal. Kaita, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen, said he was joining the club from FC Saxan in Moldova because of the passion and ambition of the club’s proprietor. “It’s really interesting to play in the Glo Premier League because that is where I started. “It’s very difficult but with focus and determination I will succeed because I have the quality to do that. “The proprietor, Ifeanyi Ubah, told me how he wants his club to be and I saw that he has passion and ambition to improve the game in all areas. “That was what impressed me and I was motivated to join the club. “I hope the team will be successful,” Kaita said. He said he would be joining the team’s camp this week after his short spell with Enyimba International FC of Aba. Kaita expressed his optimism that the team could lift the 2014/2015 league diadem if it continued the way it was going. He said he could extend the contract if things work as planned. “When someone is happy doing his work and the team is progressing, why will he not want to extend his contract but for now I don’t know if I will extend or not,” he added. Cecilia Ibru and hubby took their Univ in their city of Warri.

Nobody has ever build anything in Igboland except Igbos, this is a very disturbing reality

Its only Nnewi people that always remember home, they believe that a tenant doesn't plant flower.

Buddah in as much I will agree with your clear cut stance, however i crave to indulge a caveat. Igbos are naturally home driven in all their investments but the enabling environment to do so is what we collectively lack.

If only you know what these industrialist go through before they can secure lands for such investment here in the east compared to other parts of the country. Just imagine Ibeto still struggling to lay hands on Niger cement morribond factory in Nkalagu where as Dangote has already taken custody of Ashaka , Ukpilla and Ewokoro. Obi jackson is currently in court for land claims for his energy company. Awka and Nnewi shopping mall at some point in time construction were stalled to enable aggrieved land-dragging parties settle amicably.

The enabling environment is what we should clamor for first and i tell you investors both indigenous and foreign will come on their own volition.

One more thing the business men can do is to lobby the state government HARD to enact laws that enable them to build that international airport.

You are absolutely right about International airport access to thriving business.

Our people are really funny. We understand all these advantages of having a functional airport, we know the other parts of Nigeria had refused to have the airport in Igboland functional to deny us the advantages. Yet we refuse to patronize our own . We have the Enugu International airport almost idle, yet most of them prefer going to use the Lagos Intl. for the same trips to Dubai and China. If you add the cost of local flight from Asaba to Lagos to board the international flight, it is considerable. While they could easily board the same flight at Enugu and fly out directly at a lower cost.

Now tell me if that makes sense?

Uduokrika1 ibeto's issue with nkalagu cement was not about land itself but elechi's archaic thinking of domination
