President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday requested the approval of the Senate to appoint 15 Special Advisers, who will assist him to carry out his functions as President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

The President, in a letter addressed to Senate President, David Mark, said his request was in accordance with the Section 151 (1), (2), (3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

PRESIDENT BUHARI MUST PUBLICLY DECLARE HIS ASSET
The constitution is clear about asset declaration by elected officials stating as follows :Section 140, that a person elected to the office of President shall not begin to perform the functions of that office until he has declared his assets and liabilities as prescribed in the Constitution.”. Baba keeps giving me reasons to adore and respect him the more. While Nigerians have come out to crucify him for not publicly declaring his asset I picked an action from him worthy of commendation which several Nigerians did not aver their minds to and it is the fact that President Buhari is now not just showing that he is a democrat but he is ready to follow and abide by the constitution. The provision above stipulate that an individual elected shall not carry out any function until he declare his asset President Buhari's very first appointment came after it was announced that he had submitted his declaration form and receipt acknowledged. I make bold to say he is the first and only elected official to abide by that provision. I stand to be corrected.
Declaration of asset follows some set of procedure provided by the act as follows : section 15. Declaration of assets
(1) Every public officer shall, within fifteen months after the coming into force of this Act or immediately after taking office and thereafter-

(a) at the end of every four years;

(b) at the end of his term of office; and

(c) in the case of a serving officer, within thirty days of the receipt of the form from the Bureau or at such other intervals as the Bureau may specify, submit to the Bureau a written declaration in the Form prescribed in the First Schedule to this Act or, in such form as the Bureau may, from time to time, specify, of all his properties, assets and liabilities and those of his spouse or unmarried children under the age of twenty-one years.

(2) Any statement in any declaration that is found to be false by any authority or person authorised in that behalf to verify it, shall be deemed to be a breach of this Act.

(3) Any property or assets acquired by a public officer after any declaration required by subsection (1) of this section and which is not fairly attributable to income, gifts or loan approved by this Act, shall be deemed to have been acquired in breach of this Act unless the contrary is proved.

The obligation of an individual is to declare and submit his declaration form to the commission therein the commission shall cause itself to investigate every claims asserted by the declarant to ensure that all information supplied is correct. This exercise depending on the seriousness of the commission will take time to be concluded. It therefore amazes me to hear people criticizing without duly seeking to know the actual practice obtainable.
People have come out to say Yar'adua publicly declare his asset perhaps fail to find out when?. Yar'adua it is in record submitted his asset declaration forms few days to his swearing in just as Baba did and did not make it public until 28th June after he was sworn-in. Please guys let us cut this guy some slack he has done nothing but continue to cherish we the masses, he has remained the only elite with our plight at heart.
I understand we Nigerians have so much concentration of hypothalamus which in turn stops most of us from thinking rationally, President Buhari is our President whether we like it or not, he has our interest at heart, he has pledge to give his all to ensure Nigeria is great again. We either support and help him rebuild our dear Nation or continue with our dump founded and unnecessary outrage that will lead us back to where we came from. Whatever we decide, when heaven falls, it shall not fall on Baba Alone but all of us.

Senate approval is required for number of SA appointments but he does not need to send the names and the appointees do not require any screening from the upper house
