[b][size=14pt]Kovalenko treble puts Ukraine on top[/size]  A superb second-half hat-trick from Viktor Kovalenko saw Ukraine leap-frog opponents USA to top Group A and reach the last 16 of New Zealand 2015 in style. After a tight first 45 minutes the Europeans got into gear, with Kovalenko dominating proceedings and sending himself to the top of the tournament's scorers chart. Ukraine knew they had to win to find their way into top spot, while their superior goal difference all but guaranteed a top two finish, so there was little to lose for Oleksandr Petrakov's side. They went the closest of either side early on with the first shot of the night, with Vladyslaw Kabaiev's dipping strike forcing Zack Steffen to tip over. In truth that was the only time either keeper was tested in the first half as both teams were solid and organised, while the reality that a draw suited everybody may have dampened the more adventurous of attacking intentions. Artem Biesiedin's header flashed just wide and later forced Steffen into a routine save, but both teams perhaps lacked the intensity and bodies committed forward to really make things happen. Because of that, the fact that dead balls were key to the game bursting to life in a two minute period after the break was perhaps little shock, but the quality on show was undeniable. Kovalenko was brought down by Cameron Carter-Vickers 30 yards from goal, and the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder brushed himself down and unleashed an unstoppable curling free-kick into the bottom left corner. USA looked to have given themselves a pathway back into the game instantly as Pavlo Polehenko was adjudged to have brought down Jordan Allen in the area. But when captain faced captain from the spot it was Bohdan Sarnavskyi who denied Emerson Hyndman an equaliser. Ukraine raised their game to another level from there on out and Kovalenko really started to shine. Kabaiev was getting plenty of joy down the left flank and it was no surprise when the pressure told there. A great 'under-lap' from full-back Eduard Sobol sliced open the USA defence and his cut-back was slotted into the left corner by their in-form attacking midfielder. That corner of the net bulged again five minutes later when he made it five goals in the last two games, this time side-footing home after good work from Biesiedin. He left to sound of applause from the crowd and a kiss on the cheek from his coach, securing them a stay in Auckland for the last 16. [/b] |

Simon, who is currently at the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand with Nigeria, told AfricanFootball.com he wishes to stay at least another season at Gent before he would decide his next destination. Moses Simon made history with Belgian champions Gent by winning them the Belgian league for the first time in their history. “Fenerbache, Dortmund and Liverpool were among the clubs who were interested in signing me, but I wish to stay at least another season at Gent before I decide what is next for me,” he revealed. “I still have three more years left of my contract with Gent, but the league in Germany or England would interest me at some point.” Simon’s immediate target will be next season’s UEFA Champions League. “We are all looking forward to featuring in the Champions League after against all odds we won our first Belgian championship in 115 years,” he told AfricanFootball.com “It’s a big stage for all of us and we wish to make the most of it.” The left winger scored seven goals after he joined up with Gent in January. [b][size=14pt]Sokari is a Great Talent - Ikhana[/size]  Enyimba's head coach, Kadiri Ikhana has described Flying Eagles midfielder Kingsley Sokari as a 'great talent' after his screamer against Korea DPR in the Fifa U20 World Cup on Thursday morning. Sokari netted the third goal from near 25 yards out in Nigeria U20's 4-0 win against Korea DPR in their second game in New Plymouth and the veteran coach admits his superb goal was just a tip of the iceberg from the 20-year-old's qualities. "Sokari has ever been a great talented player. You cannot rule out such touch of goal scoring if we (Nigeria) hope to make a statement at the tournament," Ikhana told Goal. "He is an experienced and very skilful player. His presence in the team will bring huge boost to the team. "I'm not surprised he scored such a great goal because he is always hungry to improve on his performance. He is dogged and creative. I expect more goals from him. Ikhana insists Sokari is an unfolding talent who is capable of powering the Manu Garba's side to glory as well hailed the impressive show of the Flying Eagles and urged Nigerians to support the team. "I expect him to improve more in the subsequent games. He is a kind of player that learns to do better than he is being doing in his previous games," he continued. Just read comments here and I.... SMH.. .. For your info... The eagles will play for a win against Hungary... Play for a draw to avoid Germany  Isn't that match fixing  The rhythm must be sustained... A CONVINCING win against Hungary capped with a clean sheet is the best thing the eagles need right now. It is foolish to start thinking of Germany now... Everything should be done to get a win against Hungary.... Anything short of a convincing win?.. . I will be disappointed. Food for thought... How about if the Hungarian team bench all their key players and play to lose just so they avoid Germany too.. 1 Like |

Just to douse some tension maybe ironically... This German team is very good... One of the best in the competition so far. The got a frightening efficiency of which the eagles are found wanting. Their pass completion rate so far is impeccable (My assumption on their games so far NOT opta stats) An impressive defense line But something HUGE is missing in the German team.... . Talk about it after Hungary is in the bag |

El Kanemi Warriors star Matthew suffered a foot injury during an opening group game against Brazil and he may again miss his second match against the Hungarians. He missed Thursday’s win over North Korea on account of the injury. Both Nigeria and Hungary are battling for second place in the first round group after Brazil won their second game on Thursday. On Friday, the Flying Eagles trained at Inglewood Stadium at 5pm local time, which is 6am in Nigeria. Krasid:brazil that i watched was not that strong, agreed they won, but the fault of our defeat lies squarely on the shoulders of the coach and enaholo our keeper. enaholo had no justification to conceed those 2 cheap 2nd half goals whereas manu's change of formation by playing 4 strikers at once therebyexposing our midfield for the brazilians spoilt everything. given the chance again the best result the brazilians would get is a draw. i believe 100% in this team 1 Like |

Did U guys notice something? Stephen keshi picked only one non league player in his home based squad to face Chad. And guess what? It was Okecukwu gabriel of water FC that was dropped by Manu during camping at Abuja. This just shows, Manu garba knows how to identify talent. 2 Likes |
