Dear VO,

Thank you so much for the good work. However, i will like your help. I posted here a while ago and you replied with a very positive response. Though a remained positive but after a long wait i had to go and request for more information and my passport because of the current hostility against foreigners in South Africa but to my dismay my visa was rejected the same day and was told i can still re-apply even when my purpose was official and money was paid by my company for the conference which i did not get to attend.

Please i would not mind if you could help look it up if i have been banned from applying for the US visa as this is my 3rd refusal in 3 years plus the 2002 refusal which i totally and honestly forgot to include when asked about been refused US visa in the past and i answered "NO" but with all honesty event took over my mind and i do not intend "to deceive" the Consular officer.

Please i will like to know this so that i can use a lawyer to fight same and reclaim my right.

Thank you and anticipate your response. raheemk(at)hossportsintl.com

You should bring your confirmation page. As for the birth certificate, here's the official information:

Birth and death certificates: Generally available, particularly for events occurring after 1970. Registration of births and deaths is compulsory in Lagos. The National Population Commission issues birth certificates for births after 1992.

For Lagos records, certified copies of records for dates ending with 1979 can be obtained at the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Old Secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos. For records after 1979, contact the local government that issued the original certificate directly. Most births and deaths outside of Lagos are also registered at the time of the event. Applicants can obtain certified true copies of certificates directly from the local government. Alternatively, acceptable identity/parentage documents are infant baptismal certificates and hospital or maternity clinic records of birth [note: If we know you should be able to get a birth certificate due to your date and place of birth, we won't accept a baptismal certificate or hospital record instead. - VO]. Home births are rare in Nigeria and medical records are available in most cases. Affidavits may be acceptable as substitutes for documents for those born outside Lagos prior to 1960 or born in the eastern part of Nigeria in the 1960's at the time of the Biafran War, when presented in combination with convincing secondary evidence of relationship.

Thank you so much VO, the applicant has gotten all the necessary documents for the final process, what's remaining is the NPC certificate. She has a Declaration of Birth from her LGA of birth and she was born outside Lagos before 1979( Can she present the document at the embassy?)
At the first bolded, she was born before 1992, will she still be issued the NPC birth certificate?
I also don't understand the second bolded please. Does Lagos record mean people born in Lagos?
At the third bolded, can she present her Certificate of birth, gotten from her LGA of birth at the embassy? Will it be accepted?

Finally, she started the processing for the NPC birth certificate today at Surulere LGA, she was told to pay Fifteen thousand naira to get it in 1week or Seven thousand naira to get it in 3weeks. My question is, since she was born outside Lagos, before 1979, is the NPC certificate being processed for her in Surulere LGA original/valid?

Thank you.

Hello Ma, I am new at this forum. I must say that I truly appreciate how you take out time to answer everyone questions. I wish I joined this forum early. I imagine what you look but I do know you have a good heart from how you relates to everyone visa journey. May God bless you always. My fiancé had his interview on May 21, 2015 and was asked to return with more evidence of relationship of which tomorrow June 5, 2015 have been issued to return, will he be interviewed a second time? Or just collect the evidence from him? Here is our case number LGS2015591012. Ma, is it possible to say hi to him tomorrow so he can describe what you look like to me? grin grin. Thanks for your good work.

It's very likely that he'll be interviewed a second time today. If I happen to be at the window, I'll say hello.

VO, I am sorry for bringing this up here but you are the most responsive VO I know. My wife submitted a non immigrant visa renewal 3 weeks ago and it's not out yet we are scheduled to travel soon and our vacation days are not flexible. It's almost a miracle we both got vacation days at same period. What do we do cry

I can't answer non-immigrant visa questions. Please send an e-mail to LagosNIV@state.gov or AbujaNIV@state.gov, as appropriate.

I'm sorry, but I can't intervene in your case that way. Also, I have to point out that there is no "right" to a U.S. non-immigrant visa, or indeed to a non-immigrant visa to any country. Engaging an attorney is therefore extremely unlikely to be of any use whatsoever. The best thing you can do is spend the next several months building very strong ties in your home country, and when you apply for your next visa, be sure that your purpose of travel is genuine and credible and that you answer all questions on the DS-160 and in the interview honestly and accurately.

For what it's worth, if you were permanently ineligible to enter the U.S., the officer would have told you. If the refusal is a 214(b), it's not a "ban," it's just that you don't qualify for a visa at this time.

Yes, but if she CAN get a government-issued birth certificate, it's in her best interest to do so.

At the first bolded, she was born before 1992, will she still be issued the NPC birth certificate?

Most people born before 1992 are able to submit some type of NPC birth record.

I also don't understand the second bolded please. Does Lagos record mean people born in Lagos?

Yes.

At the third bolded, can she present her Certificate of birth, gotten from her LGA of birth at the embassy? Will it be accepted?

Thank you.

If the birth certificate is issued by a government office, we'll accept it. I'm not sure which offices process requests for which locations -- that's something you'll have to ask someone else, I'm afraid.

Thank you VO, from your replies, I think it's best to get the NPC birth cert.

One last question though, the applicant was asked to visit the embassy whenever she gets the NPC cert, passport, medical report, police report and the confirmation slip of the DS-260. Will she be granted her visa immediately she presents all these? Or are there other things to be done afterwards?

We have gotten all these except for the NPC birth certificate which is being processed. I guess I want to be reassured that the next visit to the embassy will be the final as regards applicant's immigrant petition.

There is no way I can reassure you that the next visit will be the final visit -- not without seeing the case and doing an interview!

Ehcheesy sure, two interviews has been done so far and the applicant was refused a visa. The petitioner later submitted all required documents and gave ample proof of relationship with applicant. Afterwards, applicant was asked to return with the aforementioned documents on any Friday.

Thanks for your help so far. I'll be back when we get the Visa smiley Hopefully.

Our VO, I was at the embassy today for my immigrant visa interview. I was looking at all the female VO'S imagining which amongst them is you. I was interviewed by one smart gentleman. After the interview he told me he is satisfied with everything, but he will not issue the visa immediately rather he handed me a letter to submit marriage certificates of my late Spouses and my international passport at the DHL office which I did immediately I got home . I submitted the death certificates as was demanded by uscis and nvc, so I didn't know I was supposed to come with the marriage certificates. He said he wants to make sure the names in both certificates corresponds. My wife have been feeling very sad and down since I told her what happened , because we planned a vacation with her siblings in LA where they reside early July if the visa was issued as we anticipated. That's my story. Have a lovely weekend

Hello V.O

I was scheduled by NVC for interview at the Lagos consulate on May 28th 2015.

My wife arrived Lagos from the U.S. a few days to my interview date and we checked into a hotel close to the consulate on the 27th of May.

However to our total dismay and shock we received a mail in the afternoon of the 27th that the interview is on the 2nd of July.

I went to the consulate as originally scheduled in the morning with my interview letter as sent to me by NVC but was informed my name wasn't on the list.

Please can you explain to me why I was treated in this manner and any chance of having my interview earlier.

Thanks!

Sir
I was granted a 2 year U.S. visa with my wife...we have been there about 3 Times so I decided to get for my mum cos I wanted her to visit as well...she went for the interview and she was asked what occupation her son does.she knows I am into interior decoration but when she was asked, she mentioned I sell cars which I don't....they refused her and later when my visa was expired.i decided to renew with my wife and the consular mentioned my mums name and I told him that was my Mum..he said she told them I sold car and I told him I don't sell car,I only just sold my wife car to get her a newer one.may be that was what my Mum saw...or she was just being nervous being infront of a consular...I was refused a visa with my wife....I really don't know what to do.....

A Happy Sunday to you VO, what are the chances that after presenting pictures of petitioner and myself, in this case my father, baptismal, school records, birth certificate showing the same name and a DNA test showing a 99.9percent positive match with my father and earnings of above the minimum $20,000 annually. what are the chances that a visa is likely to be issued. God bless. Enjoy your weekend.

Two quick questions, please:

1) Could you kindly provide an update on interview availability for IR1/CR1 visas -- is July now filled? I understand from another blog that NVC recently scheduled a bunch of these interviews (except mine cry)
2) Why does NVC, not the applicant, schedule the interviews for non-K1 immigrant visas? The slow process and the lack of transparency about what NVC is doing is so frustrating! shocked

If it helps, I'm IR1/CR1, case complete at NVC sometime around May 22. Thanks!

Thank you so much ma, Yes, I first submitted a requested contact sheet in person on the 19th of January, 2015 that's about 6 months ago now and sometime last month after my inquiry here and a mail sent to LagosIV@state.gov I received a mail from the embassy in which I was told to complete and submit another attached contact sheet sent to my email.

I was also told in the email that I would be contacted if they require more information. Please ma, is there any other document(s) I need to provide?

Being that our marriage is 2 years now,can I request that our visa status be updated to IR1 instead of the CR1 with which we began with, and If yes, how do I go about it. Thanks ma.. Sorry for bothering you.

God bless you forever.

Sorry, these are unanswerable questions. I can't evaluate evidence unless I see it, and I can't predict NVC's workload and timelines.
Good morning Ma, Please there are some things that are bothering me about my case Ma. When my dad filled DS_260 for me, we were told to wait for 30 working days but after 30 working days, we didnt get any response, so my dad started calling NVC customer care, they picked up late last month and he was told to provide them with AOS (like u said), photocopy of my passport, birth certificate and police report. He sent it to them last week thursday through express mall. What got me worried is that, on Saurday l got a gmail message from NVC telling me to submit AOS, police report and Photocopy of my passport( which my dad sent on last week) and l heard they send such message when the documents they received are incomplete. My questions are
1) Are my documents not complete? should l tell my dad to send d documents again?
2) They didnt send me this mail before, my dad just called and he was told to submit dem, so are they making it official now by sending me the mail days after my dad sent the required documents?
3) when l went tru the message sent to me on saturday by NVC, a place talking about "barcode" caught my attention, it says, the barcode should be sent with my documents, but my dad had sent them my documents before l got this mail, should he send my documents with the barcode this time or he should just ignore it since he has sent them my documents before?

Hello ma, I applied for a US B2 visa last week tuesday, I checked the status of my visa and noticed it is under administrative processing.
I have to travel for a training in 3 weeks and will need my passport, can I ask to retrieve my passport from the embassy while the administrative process is on? Because I doubt if the visa will be ready in 3 weeks!.
I will also like to state that I applied with my husband and kids, their visa has been approved and collected while mine is still under administrative processing.
I have not traveled to the US before, but I have been to several European and Asian countries.
My main concern is getting my passport before my travel date for the training.

Whether or not the American is married to the child's mother, if he can show that he's the child's father, and if he was already a U.S. citizen when the child was born, and if he can show a total of at least five years physical presence in the U.S. before the birth (those are the only three ifs, I promise), the child is also a U.S. citizen and would qualify for both a CRBA and a passport.
