How many of these roads have our previous governement able to dualized since we have refused to build a stadium?

These notions of yours were the type that kept Anambrarians to believe they don't need an Airport! Today 80% of passenger traffic on the Asaba Airport are enroute Anambra if not for the recent upgrade of th Enugu Airport to international status the effect of the Asaba Airport will be highly significant on the Enugu Airport.

Take note that Asaba Stadium along Nebisi road is almost 90% completed should Ifeanyi Uba fail to complete the Gabros stadium next season Asaba will definately be the Home of a club side based in Anambra!!!! If that alone is nothing to worry about then I am done with this argument!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every state has its priorities, did you met Anambra before Pita Obi took the mantle of leadership, how was Anambra school system before Obi, how was Anambra roads before Obi, how was Anambra health care delivery before Obi.

Tell me Anambra public utilities in relationship to that of Kogi State.

Am not saying Anambra doesn't need standard stadium, we need it and I will support it depending on the amount of money such project will gulp.

Peter Obi used close to 500 million Naira to build the 2 stadia in Onitsha, that amount alone could have been used to build one standard Mini stadium at the present location of the Ikpeazu stadium (cos of its larger size) and then grass that of the Godwin Achebe stadium to serve basically as a training pitch. If he had done that, today we won't be in this type of situation we've found ourselves.

I've observed that our Governors over the years always hide under the gab of our industriousness to fail to provide basic amenities which are compulsory. Believing the private sector will surely come to her rescue and that is exactly what we are seeing today. Imagine government hosting an athletic competition on a privately owned stadium!

Note: Most of the schools in Anambra today where either built by Missionaries or by the communities hosting them before handing them over to the government very FEW of these schools where built by our government. So what they are doing today is basically maintenance. Have you heard that Anambra state government built a school (Primary or secondary) from the scratch in the last Ten years? Even if I believe not more than 3!!!!!!!!!

The following are basic things (compulsory) which any state interested in productive development ought to put in place to actualize and boost her economic development;

1. State of the art Health facilities (Specialist Hospital) - for now we have non
2. State of the art Tourist sites - we have none
3. State of the art sport and other Recreational facilities - we have non
4. State of the art educational infrastructure - we are still managing with the ones we have
5. Good road network with street lightings - still in the pipe line
6. Good market - That is the only thing we have but poorly managed
7. Good transport facilities - we have only Road- No rail, No air, No water

Yes Obiano has a lot to do for us to get things right, but seeing him towing the steps of his predecessors gives me goose pimples.

Whatever infrastructure he is delivering no matter the cost should be done to the best acceptable world wide standards!!!!
That is why I was really pissed off with Idea of yet another one sided sitter mini stadium in Awka! If you want to build a stadium build it to world standard if you don't have the money leave it and channel the money to other prioritized projects!!!!!!!

These are my simple notions

same old bullshittt. Anambra was better before Peter obi or whatever you call him took over. Ngige took a failed state called Anambra and fixed it before handing over to the deceitful Peter obi. Unlike during peter obi, there was no massive kidnappings, doctors strike, teachers strike, water cooperation strike, health workers strike etc during Ngige's tenure. Ngige started the road revolution in Anambra state. Stop trying to rewrite histroy and give credit to who it deserves.

Yes, a state like Anambra needs a giant standard stadium, whether you want it or not.

Nwanne this is not an issue of Pete Obi or Ngige it is a general issue, infact I will even blame Ngige the more for wetting our appetites on the new 'mirage' of stadium at Amansea. For 3 years he kept reminding us of this project through various govt sponsored jingles on radio and T.v yet nothing was on ground for its fruition. I still recall taking the risk on my Dad's motorcycle all the way from Nnewi to Amansea to see the level of the project. To my utter disappointment nothing I repeat NOTHING was in place not even a sign-post signifying a construction site.

I still believe had Ngige started that project Peter Obi definitely will have no excuse than to complete it just like he did to ALL of the roads Ngige quickly awarded when it became obvious he would be sacked by the Appeal Court and while Peter Obi was delivering the road he was telling everyone who cared to listen that those roads were his. Who cares!!

Note: Peter Obi never abandoned any project started by Ngige he completed them. The only project he abandoned was the moving of Anambra state University to Alor by Ngige!!!!!!!!!!

So like I said earlier all previous governors are all responsible for our lack of a standard football stadium!!!!!!!!!!!

I got you bro, we don't have facilities in Anambra, its because Old Anambra state everything was built in Enugu and non in Anambra.
Just understand that Anambra is a budding state with dysfunctional system a less than a decade ago but check what is happening now in Anambra.

From MDGs to education to health to roads we are getting things right with meager allocation and federal neglect as well as tribal hatred and economic sabotage.

Check our federal allocation and the number of schools in Anambra and tell me how much will be remaining when you pay salaries.

Did you remember Sir Louis Odimegwu Ojukwu 3-in-1 complex in Awka, Mbadinuju started it but bad politics killed it.

Anambra deserve world class stadium because we are world class people but there is always scale of preference.

In retrospect think of what Anambra would have become now if we had gotten it right from the onset.
When Jim Nobody was the governor of Old Anambra State he did nothing except planting flowers at Zik's Roundabout and spending the entire tenure fighting Ekwueme.

Look at Awka now that once a sleepy town is looking like some cities in Eastern Europe.

Anambra government need to start building signature projects, am not disputing that. No project of architectural masterpiece are in Anambra, even our roads are too narrow for a state like Anambra.

Its high time we stopped talking here and start writing our government, all these our talks here don't bear any fruit.

Spot on BuddahMonk! You are very much on point. A lot is going on in Anambra. 3 malls, 3 flyovers, oil rig bridges, over 60kms roads, specialist hospitals under construction. We are not talking about over 2.5b on investment. Anambra is setting the pace. We can only prosper higher.
Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by Ikengawo: 7:32pm On Jun 09, 2015
why wouldn't Anambra have a stadium? There's more people in Anambra than Awka Ibom and look at theirs. A lot of us in the east don't see our states as places to live so we act like some things are negligible. I saw someone saying that Imo should be a tourist state, and Anambra an industrial. What about Imolites that are industrially inclined and Anambra people with tourist based industries? Why wouldn't they have everything possible in every state to accommodate every type of person? If were from Anambra and wanted to play soccer i would have to find a new home in Lagos abi? Nonsense.

I appreciate you sincerity, sense of objective perusing and good optimistic mind set. Anambra currently is on course but we all have a role to play in one way or the other.

With respect to writing the government I have done that on several occasions, but when an insider confided in me on its fruitlessness, I had a rethink. Currently I am working on a blog that will champion that course when it is ready i will let the house know. The other day someone posted the picture of the ongoing oil rig road which was too narrow for my liking and this will be the road to be plied by very heavy duty trucks transporting petroleum products very soon yet no one had deem it fit to question the authorities.

I have personally sort a personal attention of the House of Assembly member of my constituency to bring up this worrisome issue and he promised to raise it in the floor of the house.

I am very passionate about the development of Anambra state, but I have always remained low key all these while on this thread because of some 'unscrupulous' (pardon my choice of words) elements that often times constitute one childish nuisance or the other. However, after critical observations I have come to decipher those to engage in constructive criticism and those to avoid 'cos of their destructive criticism.

on the bold, yes I agree but I get mad when some mischievous people try to brush aside Ngige's achievements just to praise peter obi as if he was the one that took the state out of the doldrums. For God's sake this was the man that met a failed state where teachers were on perpetual strike and schools locked out. Where there were no motorable roads in the state. This man Ngige started rebuilding the state from scratch and gave hope to the people that there is indeed money in Anambra.

Talking about sporting facilities, I think the idea was proposed shortly before he was sacked as governor but atleast preliminary works like where to site the stadium, land and others were already done. I'm also aware a world class golf course was awarded around that NNPC Mega Filling station site in in Awka. Assuming Ngige stayed on, these projects would have been completed by now, he even mentioned this projects during the governorship campaigns. So we should blame his successors who don't even think towards this area. I believe a state like Anambra needs a standard olympic stadium with standard swimming pools, tracks and other facilities in order to groom our talents.

Forget all the cost implications they are telling you. If ordinary universities in Nigeria could boast of decent stadiums with these facilities then I see no reason why a whole state cannot do better.
