How about ATR-42 and Su-30 MK ?

The ATR-42 is without question the best surveillance plane in SSA

Actually from Cape Town to Cairo, NO air force has ISTAR power to compare with NAF ATR-42 Surveyor, no close rival !

Libya has one ATR-42 Surveyor not upgraded, so below NAF statndard.

Egypt and Algeria only have older 1980s Beechcraft for ISTAR, Egypt has E-2 Hawkeye for AWACS, it cannot do real ATR-42`s job.

ALL AFRICA bows to NAF ATR-42 surveyor....mighty surveyor with 407 km radar range , Nigeria is in the big league of world super powers !

even if the sentinel is better, south africa still doesn't match Nigeria in that category.

if you do... state the platforms... that simple

Gripen

Kondor-E satelight (an actual military reconnaissance satellite)

Thales ground search radars

[s]Nope !

I NEVER said Sentinel is better, it just has higher specs in aircraft performance, that's what I mean by overall higher specs.

ATR-42 and Sentinel are almost equal, each having it's own advantages. Size and engine gives the Sentinel overall specs advantage in areas of aircraft flight performance NOT the ISTAR mission itself.

NAF ATR-42 has far superior radar range over RAF Sentinel.

Mission :

ATR-42 - Multi-mission land and sea upgrade complete
Sentinel - Single-mission land only, plans for upgrade

Endurance :

ATR-42 - 11 hours
Sentinel - 14 hours

Speed :

ATR-42 - 518 km/h
Sentinel - 918 km/h

Ceiling :

ATR-42 - 8 km
Sentinel - 15 km

Radar range :

ATR-42 - 407 km
Sentinel - 333 km

Nigerian Air Force = American Air Force & British Air Force in ISTAR power !

South African Air Force = Mozambican Air Force & Rwandan Air Force tongue tongue[/s]
.

You have said that your AT42 has a radar range of 300km

Now it is 400km?

lol, this is too funny

British Royal Air Force Sentinel = 333 km

sa zombi.e the concept of ISTAR is still mystical to you thats why you call it a mere mission. Because s.a don't have it. How do you gather intelligence? Do you have consistent surveilance capability? All saaf can manage is mere recon and target acquisition. Show us your intel gathering airborne platform? Show us surveilance airborne platform. S.A ZOMB1ES DON'T HAVE ANYTHING ONLY MOUTH.
Look below for DEDICATED ISTAR PLATFORMS ZULU.

Helicopters can gather intelligence.

The Gripen can gather surveillance.

The Cessna can gather intelligence.

Saaf gripen doesnt have the endurance of a dedicated platform. A gripen is a multirole aircraft, if you want to do istar you will have to sacrifice things like weapons payload, fuel carriage, higher crew workload. E.t.c plus short time on station. The gripen can only dash in and out of the theather to re fuel or rearm. Look below for istar king of Africa.
Swing-role aircraft.

This three words destroy your argument.

ISTAR does not give you power over another fully fledged military other than just militia groups. All those countries which still possess older tech in respect of ISTAR will all harass Nigeria in a battle. They will defeat you with your luxurious ATR42 and turn you into their slaves.

and the sad thing is that your comment comes off like a wounded spoilt dumb brat with brain drain problem.

having accepted the obvious, you resort to this pettiness. smh

ATR42 without tactical data link that integrate other platforms cannot communicate with other systems in real time and warn them about BH activities. You must have been a fool with acquiring such a tech without a dedicated tactical data link. What a loss!! If mighty Egypt cannot do it because they do not have data link, what of a stupidd Nigeria?

SA is the only country on the continent that can make their ISTAR to be perfectly integrated with all their platforms in real time because they developed their own tactical data link that can as well as today access LINK 11 of NATO.
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 9:42am On Jun 14, 2015
Nigeria's ATR42 does not benefit military at all, it was just another wasteful transaction. When it sees the enemy, it cannot relate the information to other systems in real time. When it sees the enemy, F7s and other platforms cannot see anything and unfortunately it will have to communicate with ground stations in order to locate the enemy which is very time consuming. By the time it gets to the enemies' position, it would find the enemy already disappeared through thin air.
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 9:58am On Jun 14, 2015
In the whole of Africa there is no African as wasteful as a Nigerian. Any scrap or advanced tech presented on them they would fall for it without having done feasibility study to test if they have all the facilities needed to procure a certain tech. All that they enjoy is spend and spend, over and over. They just look like a destitute and poor family that would want to own Porsche or Lambogini even when the conditions does not allow them to do so. They should master Maslow's hierarchy of needs by heart. They will want to boast satellites and ISTAR when they do not have basics, things that they will require to physically tackle BH.

What does a reporter know about a military stuffs? Of course, the data stations related the information through radios and rather the ground forces did not see the enemy position on the monitors themselves.

In SANDF our ground forces see the enemy themselves in real time on their own monitors. Our ground forces uses cytoons which your poverty stricken forces have none.

One gripen operating in the ISTAR role can be supported by multiple gripen which are "bombed up"

And a gripen in the ISTAR role can still carry munitions - unlike the ATR

Kondor complies with the definition with istar

Thales ground search is part of the systems employed by the tactical intelligence regiment which fullfills its ISTAR capabilities - or you didnt know that the majority of ISTAR units are ground based?
