Hahahahahaha see three against one!! (scrollmeout @ewagbamio, bossladymo1) against Ifexsco! Evn Bosslady agrees her result was reflective of wat she wrote! Let's not argue, but its nt all about practising and writing, let's rember the technicalities of the marking, for example in writing, wats ur diction power? Hw good is ur word articulation and points articulation? Hw careful r you with tenses? Hw careful are u wit punctation and avoiding typos? I don't beat my own gong, I made 112/120 in TOEFL and wil ace PTE or watever English exam! I still belong to my school of thought, IELTS has no biz failing me, if I play by the rules, I will pass and pass well. No need for ur result to speak for you....you hv already made it in PTE because u will do all u hv to do well! God bless us all in our hustle to make great things out of life!

Ifexsco, I am with @ewagbamio, bossladymo1 and co on this one.

I didn't get this this far in life by lazying around, i prepare for anything i undertake! I prepared for 2 months for my first IELTS, same for the others. I have the preparatory materials you mentioned and more.
The reason i was confident enough to apply for a remark is that i was fortunate enough to see and prepare for the essay 2 question the night before my exam. I found the questions on www.ieltsbuddy.com. They have a compilation of most of all the questions in IELTS question bank, it was just by chance that the last essay i wrote before i went to sleep was what came out in he exam. I had all the points in my head, all i had to do was articulate them on a piece of paper!
Guess what? same 'ol same 'ol. I wont dwell too much on this topic but i'd rather pray to God for guidance so my PTE result can do the "talking".

Dont get me wrong. I still believe IELTS does something funny somewhere. I just gave my case as one of the examples of things turning out as expected....but there are many people whose results are not a proper reflection of their input.

Ifexsco you are really funny, you made me laugh out here .I do not mean this as sarcasm or anything like that your attitude reminds me of certain periods in my own past.
I used to hold opinions similar to yours in the time past but after almost a decade in my chosen profession, I can confidently tell you one thing: The more the number of humans involved in a system, the less perfect the system is likely to be.

I never accused IELTS of bias, in fact I stated that I am OK with the content of the test.
I never said IELTS failed me, I had 9, 8.5, 7.0 and 6.5, IELTS knows they are not perfect and as such they made provisions for remarking which candidates have used successfully in the past. I requested for a remarking and after 9 weeks of waiting, I have not heard anything from them. I have not been seeing similar complaints from people taking PTE.

This is not about bias, like I stated in my initial post, if I have been better informed I would have gone with PTE. I only came here to give my personal experience so others can be better informed.

I took the test on the 14th of March and after writing emails and waiting for so long, zilch! Nothing. That is the painful aspect of the whole experience. If IELTS cannot get results to candidates in good time and cannot respond to emails, how then do you go about implying that they they are doing a perfect job in their marking?

I am not perfect, nobody is. I simply want them to release my TRF and that is not too much to ask. NECO, WAEC, and the rest routinely do this and it should not be too much for IELTS to do

Thebosslady, ferdimako and scrollmeout thanks for your open mindedness

If ur movement depends on ur bands and ur 6.5 is of a subjective section and u are within d grace period to complain..do so if u know u did better than that band.

If not, try to redo..I believe u need 10points.

Well Stated, IELTS has rubbished a lot of ppl including me. Take PTE and you won't regret it, they treat Nigerians unfairly, our English Language capacity is far better than most Countries, but they kept failing us in an unfair manner and using it as a Pawn to generate revenue.

You will do extremely well taking PTE and u will pass with flying colours, a lot of testimonies about PTE on this thred.

hi,just want to correct you.it is fellow Nigerians who are IELTS examiners at British council Nigeria that treats Nigerian candidates unfairly. They are the ones who preside over the speaking test and do the scoring, they also mark the writing test not the british.Listening and reading is marked by the computer

So how do you explain someone who could barely make a 7 all round or an 8 all round in IELTS, taking PTE, and passing well? There is something fishy somewhere. And it's not just Nigerians...the Asians are also complaining. There was a guy who was struggling to get a 7 in writing. He took the PTE and scored an 80 or so in writing....after taking IELTS 3x. The equivalent of an 80 in writing is an 8 in IELTS....and there are many other examples too.
yes Bossladymo I agree with you.if you watch real IELTS speaking test video uploaded on youtube which was conducted and taken by foreigners in non speaking English countries. You will be surprise to see an IELTS candidate with LOTS of grammatical errors in the speaking test scoring Band 7 in the speaking test unlike in Nigeria here where a candidate who has good command of English language but with FEW grammatical errors is given band 6 or 6.5.you can see for yourself on youtube

Hello linguistics2k5
Please how long did it take you to get your transcript from ICAN?
ALso which of their offices did you go to( onyigbo or island)?
Lastly what if I cannot find my individual exam result slips, can they treat without them?

Please help with the answer

pingu2k5:
You apply for the transcript at ICAN's office. Check this link for the procedure: http://icanig.org/ican/article.php?id=27 . I received my transcript and sent to the assessing authority myself. Not all schools have to send transcript. You will have to look for a way to get yours from your school.

Please check the websites of the assessing authorities (CPA, ICAA and IPA) for current requirements and documentation.

Oyingbo office. Within a week. You can print your results from ICAN's website. If you can't get the results, I believe they will still treat. You'll get the letter of good standing from the Island office. Also try to get the syllabus that was effective when you wrote the exams.

Yes, HND is equivalent to Australian Advanced Diploma. You need to check your occupation and assessing body to know the minimum requirement.

The IELTS speaking component is freaking subjective AF! The guy who interviewed me must be some crackk..head nuii.sance, how else do you explain the ret.aard scoring me 6.5 in speaking The point here is this, if you are fortunate enough to have your speaking test conducted by a white person you'd prob'ly score better than when these Nigerian examiners score you. If they didn't score me 7.0 overall band score, them for sabi better crase for that IELTS office, I would have given them a damn dressing down before i ask for a remark of the speaking part after taking the PTE test. Awon Oloriburuku IELTS.

I am gonna say it here, any academically average Nigerian who scores below 7.0 in speaking should be flogged <----- At least, that was my earlier position before that jerr.k scored me 6.5 in speaking. For the records, here is my IELTS test report; LISTENING- 7.0 READING-8.0 WRITING-7.0 SPEAKING-6.5, OVERALL BAND SCORE-7.0. I needed 6.5 on all components tho for the programme.

Hello House, I have read through the Part 1 and 2 of this thread and i must commend bossladymo1 and all positive contributors so far. God Bless you all. I have recently decided to apply to an Aussie University. I have some questions and i will appreciate your answers:

1. I have a good TOEFL Result, do you think i would still need IELTS especially at the point of applying for a visa?

2. I noticed most Aussie schools have agents. Should i apply on my own or still use an agent cos the agency fee(especially PFL is outrageous)?

Please help A Brother... Thanks in advance...
