Wonder1844: IIT ain't theory based, they are practically inclined and structured.. Over ninety percent of their electro-mechanical graduates are in the industry..they introduced mechatronics not quite long that's making poly and uni grads employable.. I plan to go there after my hnd.. |

@ tboizbam, thanks for d info,.. @ wonder1844, do u mean d 750k would cover my training fee, accommodation and visa. Cous if 750k is for training only, I would be looking at over a million for everything concerning d program. More so, give me d link of d schools running such course in Indian. |

Keep it up debbie you killed it. You said it all and that the punch-line. Main issue fresh graduates have now is they want money first experience later which I don't think can work that way. In my own case will even advice starting from a lowkey company where by you can grab all the experience you need then use the experience gained to get a higher paid job. Also as you rightly said jack-of-all-thread does not work out as we all know Elect Eng has different fields just pick the one most preferable face it and have brief or little knowledge of other aspect because this days machines are designed with combination of the major 3 aspects power, control and communication. Just found this thread today and am happy to meet my junior, fellow and senior ogas @ the top. God bless us all Amen. ( Don't forget to join NSE and COREN too o ) debbie: |

Thanks dear....as for the COREN AND NSE thing alot of graduates are scared to join, some dont see any relevance their while some dont just have any reason why they shouldnt join. Anyway i am a proud member of APWEN for now. Truth is being a member exposes you to alot of positive Stuffs. seyilapy: |

debbie: What's APWEN And please what's the procedure for joining the NSE and COREN?? |
Re: A Thread For Graduates Of Electrical/electronics Engineering Seeking For Jobs by Nobody: 7:03pm On Sep 09, 2015 |
temi4fash: APWEN is Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria. Corporate membership of NSE which is MNSE requires at least 4 years experience as an engineer and most times COREN requires 5 years experience. |
Re: A Thread For Graduates Of Electrical/electronics Engineering Seeking For Jobs by temi4fash(m): 7:13pm On Sep 09, 2015 |
elnino2015: Thanks for the information. The 5 years of COREN is it excluding the 4 years used to get the MNSE or including it? If an Electrical Engineer gets a job in a Construction company as their in house Electrical Engineer is the Experience also applicable For the application for the MNSE? |
Re: A Thread For Graduates Of Electrical/electronics Engineering Seeking For Jobs by Nobody: 7:17pm On Sep 09, 2015 |
temi4fash: Your experience in a construction firm as an electrical engineer very well counts and the 4 years experience also counts for COREN, so basically you might just need about a year experience after your MNSE. It is usually very easy to become a COREN Registered Engineer when you have your MNSE. |
Re: A Thread For Graduates Of Electrical/electronics Engineering Seeking For Jobs by temi4fash(m): 7:22pm On Sep 09, 2015 |
elnino2015: Thanks, How does the masters route work? So during the 4 years of gathering the Experience what happens?? |
Re: A Thread For Graduates Of Electrical/electronics Engineering Seeking For Jobs by seyilapy(m): 8:42pm On Sep 09, 2015 |
* tongue out * LoooooL who knows APWEN? That's how you guys were forming too back then in school LoooooL. Well as regards NSE and COREN there is relevance o. Check out job adverts in some cases you see things like must be a registered engineer bla bla bla and I don't think there is any harm joining. As I earlier said God help us and lead us right. Miss APWEN looooool. Proud member of APMEN too. * winks * debbie: |
Re: A Thread For Graduates Of Electrical/electronics Engineering Seeking For Jobs by debbie(f): 10:50am On Sep 10, 2015 |
why? We are professional women ooo. Very soon organizations will be requesting for COREN and NSE registered engineers.I pray the government will look into this to ensure effective engineering. Too many unskilled people acting as engineers. seyilapy: |

I am glad to have stumbled on this thread. I salute the insight and wisdom shared by the experienced as per whether to get a masters, certification or experience in order to improve the odds. Well I'd say it all depends on the industry. Talking from experience, in the telecom sector experience is more valued maybe probably followed by certifications. I have worked as a field engineer for more than 2 years and I can tell you for entry level no one cares if you have a masters. What matters is if you can Configure those router, troubleshoot that DXx, NodeB/BTS etc. Your masters can only be useful if you are seeking a promotion to a managerial role. Many of this Telcos are not ready to train or invest in you. They are looking for readymade products. They are aware that certifications do not necessary translate to Competence. This is my 20 kobo. If you have the chance to gain experience directly from the industry even if it's a tiny company take it. That's probably your most valuable lifeline My humble opinion. #GodBlessNigeria 3 Likes |

In as much as i agree with what my ogas has said, let me bring us to reality Most of us actually want to learn these skills but then the price tag on this certifications and trainings could be really extravagant presently trying to teach myself programming and software development because i can afford to, all i need is an internet connection and im good to go..Even had to save from my meagre federal allowance to get myself this laptop But deep down if you ask me, would have loved to tow the networking and internet security path, but then where is the money CCNA training alone and exam is no less than 100k..Now tell me, how do i get the cash, not all of us were born with silver spoon you know will be rounding up service in two weeks and when i see some of the job adverts for electrical engineers, i deliberately ignore it so i wont just go for the interview(that's even if they call) and make a fool of myself because i actually have nothing to offer apart from the pure water 2:1 im carrying about. The truth is an average graduate in this field is a voracious reader and would stop @ nothing to add value to themselves if the means are available, and dont just let me go to those screaming masters.. the cheapest masters tution have heard so far is no less than 100grand(correct me if im wrong) that's asides accomodation and other expenses... Now tell me, where do you want a young graduate that struggled to acquire even the B-eng get such huge cash? ANNOUNCEMENT: Please and please, can I get someone to teach me AUTOCAD electrical and wiredesign in here (for free or at least for a token?)..not those videos sellers o, i need somebody using it in the field already... thank you so much as you respond to this 2 Likes |

Ojobojo1: Its a good move bro. Learn as much as you can so that you can be positioned on the day of reckoning. Let me tell you my experience: I went for an Interview 4 months after NYSC, I had some Nigerian Certifications in HSE and working with that FMCG was already on the burner. I was then asked at the last stage if I can use AUTOCAD and "bum" I couldn't. I was not invited after that. Knowing this; I went for AUTOCAD training about 2 weeks after that and it was that leverage that got me where I am today (a major Engineering Power Construction Company) as a Trainee. Interestingly, I can do Electrical House Wiring, Repair Phones and POS Terminals. I dare tell you that the next biggest sector in Nigeria is Power Sector (Telcos is for those with vast experience and it has been outsourced to cabals). GO FOR AUTOCAD TRAINING. 2 Likes |
