Hi all,

I have downloaded and read the Engineer Australia's MSA booklet but still have some little confusion. Before I get assessed by EA, am I going to write career episodes and prepare a CDR and pay the application fees or how exactly should I start? @NNB2012, manmeta, bossladymo, ferdimako, all engineers and non engineers who have done it, please help.

When I'm not claiming point for work experience, do i need to submit reference letter, employment letter, tax clearance, payslips to my assessing body (VETASSESS)?

That's correct. I believe there's also a summary of your professional experience you have to write which is a compressed form of your three career episodes. The major task here is to write those episodes in a way that will capture the requirements listed in the booklet. I'll advise you sit for your IELTS too. It's a requirement by EA for your assessment as well.

Good afternoon house..
Please I have been told told that I have to apply for a transit visa for the country through which I'll be connecting my flights (options are South Africa (Johannesburg)or Uk (Heathrow)).. I want to confirm if this is true. Thanks

I don't know of South Africa but for the UK, you need a transit visa.

The information in the MSA booklet is all you need to write your CDR,professional summary,CV format etc. Meanwhile, check page 18-19 in the link below for CDR sample.

Please, in travelling to Australia for one year course, must you buy flight returning ticket
Re: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by erictack203(m): 5:38pm On Jun 29, 2015
You should get a oneway ticket as long as you hold an Australia Study Visa Grant Letter. The Immigration will allow you fly with a one way.

What if you just wait a bit, and apply in December ... That way, you can arrange for payslip or get your company to pay in cheque or whatever means.... Meanwhile, with cheque, I'd guess you'd need evidence of tax payment

Is it every one that gets a tax refund? On the ATO website, I can only see deductions for study or work related expenses. Can you shed any light on this?

Hi all,

I am happy to announce my pte academic exam success. My scores are L82 W 80 R 77 and S 71. Speaking was my weak point. I had difficulty in describing the graphs. My ielts result is W6.5, R8.5,L7.0 And S6.5. I read so many success stories of pte and decided to take it. It was a very wise decision considering the many tales of woe by ielts candidates. I am so happy. Next is to apply for sa sponsorship.
. Please, where can I buy the Macmilian test builder. I have dowloaded the one you posted , have read everything in expactforum; but the listening and speaking part won't play on my system. I want to buy original copy. Thank you, so much.

This article explains in details what you can and cannot claim during your tax return.

https://au.pfinance.yahoo.com/money-manager/tax/article/-/28528585/tax-returns-101/

I will advise you to use a tax agent to prepare your tax return for you. It is possible to get some money back from the government through your tax return and also possible to pay government back through your tax return. Your employer will send you your Group certificate, which shows actual gross paid to you and tax paid by you. Remember, you are expected to provide rough estimate of your income to centrelink and update it from time to time as your income changes. Usually centrelink pays your family tax benefit,child-care benefit etc. based on the income estimate provided. During tax return, ATO would compare actual with what you estimated in that financial year. The exact tax you were expected to pay would be calculated based on the figure they have with all tax deductibles been considered. One could end up paying back to the government or you could get some part of your tax back from government. I have never paid to the government before. I can assure you that you would probably get large chunk of your money back because of Tax threshold off-set which is 18,000plus. And considering that you earn for just few months in the just concluded financial year. If you have private health insurance, you would get your medicare levy back as well. Everybody pays medicare levy but those that don't benefit from it will get it refunded. I mean the international residents and also permanent residents with private health insurance.

Thanks bro. We have updated centrelink as required....I even over-estimated sef, so centrelink should paying us the arrears....but they said it is only after we lodge our tax return.

As per employing a tax agent...since our income is only from work, and we dont have any other income that complicates matters e.g Foreign income....does that not make it pretty straight forward if we lodge it ourselves? What do you think?

NNB2012 was spot on.

In addition, being your first tax return, I'll advise you use a tax agent (of Africa or Nigeria descent, if possible. If not, never mind). You can use this to learn the ropes.

In any case, since this is your first year working in Australia, you'll be having almost all your tax returned to you. Call me for the party when the money rains in. LOL

Use Tax agent, even the agency fee is tax deductible. You will get your money back. It is always good to over estimate. It is like savings without interest. Sure, it is only when you lodge your tax return. You can get the money credited to your account within 1 week of lodging.

Ok People i have now been issued my 574 grant on monday morning. Thank you guys( Futuredon, erictac203, ernestudezi...) and every one for your advice.

Erictac203 was correct. I responded to my case officer asking her the reason for asking for an OSHC that ends 28/02/2020 when my program ends 30/06/2019 and i have provided evidence that my OSHC ends 30/12/2019. She immediately replied that she wanted to grant me a visa that is 8 months from the end of my program as against 6 months from the end, but that if i wanted it to be six months from the end, i should let her know(oboy when i see this one i shook my head that this case officer must be a comedian e make me to to dey disturb the full USYD for just 2 months extension), with speed of light i just replied her that i wanted the 6 months from my end date jare. In less than an hour i got my visa grant.

Abeg Futeredon and co how i wan use book flight, Oboy i check emirates i dey see almost 600K(fear grip me o).
