I am very surprised to hear about the gas crisis. My friend was just telling me that there was scarcity of gas alongside the fuel scarcity that almost paralysed our economy. You guys wont blame me for not being up to date with the gas situation as its been long i refilled my gas cylinder. I now use Biogas to cook at home, Biogas is gotten from the decomposition of my food leftovers. I am also happy to tell you all that the rate at which Lawma visits my compound has reduced as a sizable portion of my wastes is being recycled to gas. I have also designed a couple of Domestic biogas digesters for my neighbors and they wont stop thanking me. Biogas has all the attributes of LPG gas, only that one is way cheaper than the other. My dream is to make it start running on cars here in Nigeria so we all can be our own government.
I have been searching for some method of using the food waste, decomposable organic material and kitchen waste efficiently, and came across information on producing bio-gas from organic waste.

The bio-gas produced from food waste, decomposable organic material and kitchen waste, consisting of methane and a little amount of carbon di oxide is an alternative fuel for cooking gas (LPG). Also, the waste materials can be disposed off efficiently without any odor or flies and the digested slurry from the bio-gas unit can be used as an organic manure in the garden.

Components of the Bio-gas Plant

The major components of the bio-gas plant are a digester tank, an inlet for feeding the kitchen waste, gas holder tank, an outlet for the digested slurry and the gas delivery system for taking out and utilizing the produced gas.

This project is also useful for students to have a hands-on learning experience in constructing a Mini Bio-Gas Plant, using locally available material.

Material Required:

1. Empty PVC can 50 ltrs capacity: 1 No. (to be used as Digester Tank)
2. Empty PVC can 40 ltrs capacity: 1 no. (to be used as Gas Holder Tank) (Make sure the smaller can fits inside larger one and moves freely)
3. 64 mm dia pvc pipe: about 40 cm long (to be used for feeding waste material)
4. 32 mm dia pvc pipe: about 50 cm long (fixed inside gas holder tank as a guide pipe)
5. 25 mm dia pvc pipe: about 75 cm long (fixed inside the digester tank as a guide pipe)
6. 32 mm dia pvc pipe: about 25 cm long (fixed on digester tank to act as outlet for digested slurry)
7. M-seal or any water-proof adeshive
8. Gas outlet system: Please see Step 4 below for required materials and construction

Tools required

Do not require many tools here. A hack saw blade for cutting the cans & pipes and a sharp knife for cutting holes on the cans are all the tools we need.

Additional accessories

A single burner bio-gas stove or a Bunsen Burner used in school laboratories

This is one of my researches in the offing.

Since you plan to mass produced it,you may encountered liquefaction problems.

What do you think is the way out.

Since you only use domestic biodegradable by products at present, this can only give you little output. Why not have it in plan to use animal dungs, water hyacinth etc
From my researches, you can make use of domestic pit latrine too.

This process is a little bit tedious,if you don't mind, I can share it with you.

We have to make consideration for disused products through from the slug.

This can be used in lieu of fertilizer.
If you don't mind, you can contact me so that we can rubb mind together.

Mind you,I am not new to renewable energy as I've been able to have keen interest on it over times.

I believe the biogas is highly inflammable. Is it odourless?

How do u dispose nd refil this without polluting the environment, we actually working on this too in my school and can you actually compress this in a cylinder

You need sub zero temoerature to liquefy natural gas, Biogas even involves a much more negative temperature.. so its not that easy to attain these degrees in Nigeria

Not only sub zero temperature to liquefy NG. You need to Reform and crack (catalytic cracking) the NG. Also do your CO2 removal and compression at high pressure. Before sending it to the cryogenic units to liquefy at -300degC. Capital intensive I guess.

op I would like to learn this. I Also notice only industrial regulator here.
Can it be used to table tops and standard gas cookers.
Do you use cylinder and or regulator

The OP did a wonderful job. My team however have a solution for using the regular and standard cookers.

You killed it bro. You were flawless with the analysis. That's the major issue with the stuff. The best bet is only to use it for cooking now. Though, I purify the gas to leave me with only methane and use a mini compressor to compress it in a regular gas cylinder and then convert my generator to run on it.

The equipment to compress at that rate costs about 250m. We ran away when we heard that.
