my personal favourite is the way Nigerians say "therefore" and "thereby" when having an argument. I can never stop laughing at that

and its interesting how Nigerians tend to use words that have been left behind in the UK, like prostrate, rusticate etc

I had never even heard of those words before I came to nairaland

And the way they say "this your" or "that your", like this your book

and "cloth" instead of "clothes"

and my own instead of mine

• "Off head" means without a head, that would mean having your head cut-off. What you should say is "can you recite the poem by heart".

•Accounting is not a discipline but a process of taking account. What you study is "Accountancy".

•Only say sorry when you are responsible for a pain/misfortune. The right thing to say is "I heard you fell sick, hope you get better soon"

•Copies of an item are never original (that's why it is a copy and not the original) . What you should say is "send copies of your original document to my desk".

•There's nothing like dishonest truth. You can only speak "the truth".

•There's no such thing as pin number. Simply say "forgotten my pin".

•What's mineral? Except you mean mineral resources lol. Simply say "soft drink or beverage".

•Your "older" brother. Senior is used to describe ranks (hierarchy), not blood relations.

•Your "younger" sister.

•What you call normal tea (milk, milo, sugar, hot water) is not tea. It is called "hot chocolate". Tea are beverages made from tea bags.

• "When do you leave for Abuja" is the correct thing to say. You can't be going to go.

There was no traffic today, so I made it to work early

• "No traffic" means there wasn't any moving car on the road, which is not true. Instead say, there was "less traffic".

Have you had your bathe?

•This is incorrect, what you should say is "have you had a bath// or// have you showered"

and I don't think there is anything wrong with saying "going to go" its just long-winded

you cant compare the two words, going has more dimension as a word than coming

going doesn't just refer to physically moving like coming does, it can also refer to the future tense. which coming cannot do

going to is the same as saying "will"

coming to is just when one is physically or figuratively moving towards something
