Our academic settings should rather take the blame on this.Virtually everything being taught in the University is theoretical. There is little or no practical applications. I am a graduate of Computer Science and my best language is C#, I recently dove into Android coding. I had to learn these during my extracurricular hours. Most of our schools here are only good at passing archaic manuals/textbooks from generations to generations.

I've also noticed that every time first class is mentioned, Nigerians do love to associate the achievement with cramming. This is not so, it is impossible for someone to solely cram his way to first class. Although I do believe there are certain times when one won't be able to help it than to indulge into cramming and the system here should be held responsible for that. Let me cite a case study. There was a scenario like that when a friend of mine who also graduated with first class from Mechanical Engineering said he returned a marked script to a lecturer claiming that he ought to have gotten a particular question right, you don't want to imagine how the lecturer replied him. He replied "give me my definition back".

School rewards people for their memory. Life rewards people for their imagination and innovations. School rewards caution, life rewards daring. School hails those who live by the rules. Life exalts those who break the rules and set new ones.

However, I find it curious that an internet search on the Prof's name brings out just these qoutes, and mostly from Nigerian bloggers and motivational speakers.
How could it be that the name is not associated with any university, no academic publication linked to the Professor, no Linkedin profile?

You know they say, never believe most quotes you see on the internet, this must be a classic example.

Woooow! The truth and nothing but the truth. This is one of the reasons why I hate school but love education. Anyways, do not use this as an excuse for your lazy ass in school. Study and graduate well, it is also the test of dedication, perseverence, hardwork, diligence and patience which are also the ingredients needed in the real world.

That was in the very past, First class students now know better.

Society is ugly. I've come to realize that most first class are conservative. I think they are great soul and shape society. My unreserved regards to all the first class.

A first class student/graduate of a field is a highly focused individual in that field. Someone, who amidst distractions faced a particular task and did it diligently.
When you need someone to solve a problem with high diligency, time restriction and less distractions, hire a first class graduate from the field that the problem exist.

Maybe you're feeling homesick

We don't use GPA system in medical school.

So this is none of my biz

I manage peeps and I have managed more than 3 first class graduates in my team.

They are diligent, they don't procrastinate. Tell them what you want and they get it done.they take it on themselves as burden to solve any problem that comes their way no matter how little their involvement is suppose to be.

They are disciplined and I have learnt so much from their lifestyle in terms of financial management.


That is why as an hiring manager I give first class graduates priority when I come across one.

Living a great life is a different ball game and has nothing to do with ur grade in school.


If u are a student and you ask me, work hard and get a first class if you can get it. Don't be discouraged by average minded people.
