Dear All,

I need your candid advise between a College and University

Which is better,

University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), Bsc Computer Information System.
Northern Alberta Institute of Tehnology (NAIT), Bsc Applied Information System Technology

Your advise is high appreciated.

Ok, thanks for the response.

But on their website, it stated that we need to prove the English proficiency. So, how did you go about scaling through that bridge when they ask?

Only if English is not your first language so it doesn't apply to Nigerians in most cases. If they ask, tell them that your Bachelors degree was taught in English. You can get a letter from your university if they keep asking. You can also scan your WAEC/NECO certificate or get a scratch card so that the can see that you had at least a C6 in English but they most likely will not ask.

It will be a little hard to advice you on what you should do ... you need to break it down for yourself in this manner:
What do you want out of the 2
what are your chances of jobs
What does the future holds in both fields
But if you are asking for opinions on the schools, it is a different ball game or if you are asking cos of the province/location, let us know, but you know what you are good at and your strength and that will go a long way in your decision.

Thanks Don Fhemmy. Been a while sir...

I'v actually thought about what you listed.

My main goal is to be in the IT industry and both courses can go in UFV and NAIT. UFV is in Bristish Columbia while NAIT is in Alberta, in terms of jobs, where can one get a good job upon graduation?. And what is your general opinion on both schools?.

Another thing again is that, do Canada employer discriminate on one holding a College Degree Certificate. Do they give favouritism?

Thanks TheBae. I am actually going for my Degree.

Yes, I did pass my WAEC, so presenting that should be the least of my worries if they ask.

I just wana make sure I get it right. UFV is asking for English proficiency while SAHEETO is telling me he didn't submit English proficiency in NAIT. NAIT seems to be cheaper than UFV.

My only worries is getting a degree from a College.

What is your opinion and suggestion considering the future?

Do the employers favor Universities over colleges? Nope, the colleges are great for Technical stuff and you really learn and get busy with learning, however, i am sure there are some employers that would request for a degree in that program..... But my advice will be if you decide to go to a college, try and further upon completion.

Regarding best place to be, at the moment Alberta is losing jobs and that wont be enough for you to decide not to go there, i am sure Alberta will rise again, because Oil will not be down forever, with the rise of oil demand, Alberta will run the nation again, but mind you, you couold school in BC and still be able to go and get a job in Alberta, if you are good and able to market yourself well . . .A good Resume is all that matter, with God on your side and being able to sell yourself.

Which of the 2 is better? There are so many applications being developed today that is making the jobs of computer programmers not that much out there because many people can do their own development these days, just like web development , , , If you are able to get something that adds medical tech to your program, please go for it, because Canadians are ageing and systems will medics will be on the high demand.
If I Fhemmmy have to chose among those two you listed, i will go for the later rather than the computer science . . . But again, that is my own opinion and dont know it all.

Hello everyone,
Thank God with me, finally got a response to my SOWP after two months and a week.
Got an email first asking for rental agreement of my host and evidence of fund for intended trip. Does the funds part mean evidence that I can pay flight ticket or evidence I can take care of myself in Canada?

The next message I got was request for medicals. Now this came with a form that wasn't filled and no stamped passport. Do I go ahead with those forms like that or can anything be done? Is the form meant to be empty?
Your answers are highly needed. Thank you smiley

Get the rental agreement of your host asap. Evidence of funds = printing a current statement of account.

Congratulations.

Thanks so much Don Fhemmy.

I intend specialising in Networking after finish the Bsc Applied Information System Technology. NAIT has a program of Bsc Applied Information System Technology which I intended going for not a diploma. I am already Cisco and Microsoft certified. I currently have a diploma in IT. I just need a Bsc to stand strong.

When you say going for the later, please, what do you mean?

I understand where your coming from Don Fhemmmy,

But here is what is on my head, before one can be called for any job interview, your CV will go a long way. So, when they see you have a degree from a College, wont they be less interested in you CV as per Canada Employers? . I can defend my qualification anytime but you know Nigerian Employer, they might not want to give you an opportunity to call one for an interview. So, I just want to confirm if its the same with Canada Employers generally.
