I have read the story and also fellow Nairalanders comments. These are my observations

- the sex was actually consensual

- the lady was ready to do anything to get admitted and the lecturer took advantage of this to sleep with her

- for good NINE(9) days, shola did not inform her parents, she should have done that immediately she got home if it was actually a rape

- if shola did not have the abdominal pain that got her parents worried before she confessed of having sex with her fathers friend , the show would have continued with the lecturer.

- she was putting on jeans, not skirt or gown . How could he have overpowered her in his office , witout her sreaming or hitting him with with the coffee cup or any object at sight

- the lecturer should get a good lawyer, he will win this case - shola is no longer a minor @ 18 years

As much as I sympathise with the girl and of course, Rape in Nigeria should have stiffer penalties. Both sides of the story are inconsistent. If the man used a condom it weakens the girl's case. She said she was about to pick up something then he pushed her, removed her trouser and - she skipped the condom part- and stuck it in. I wonder how he held her while wearing a condom that she couldn't scream or break free. But like someone mentioned he might have drugged the coffee that he also had...He obviously lied that the girl was handling his manhood in his office. Anyway, From both accounts this is what I think happened:
He took the girl to his office and they had sex that she may not have fully consented to but obliged- because he was in a privileged position - but she didn't really do much to resist or runaway and when the pain became unbearable he stopped. When she got home her parents noticed her pain and interrogated her and she told them he raped her.
Let justice be served. the lecturer should be punished and I don't think it's his first time. He also shouldn't be associated with any educational institution in Ngeria. He took advantage of a girl handed over to him by her parents and brought shame and disrepute to the University of Lagos. I wouldn't know if my version of would still count as rape but either way the lecturer is screwed.
