MizMyColi:
If truly, Mr Buhari despises the office of the first lady, and so does his wife, then they should not be seen holding on to any relic or vestiges from the supposedly abandoned office of the first lady.
I ask you again: Which office would you rather she use for her pet projects which we already know she was going to do?

PMB clearly said there won't be office of the first lady as if it were recognized by the constitution. And that has not changed.

MizMyColi:

Why is it so hard to admit that Madam Aisha Buhari now functions in the capacity of a first lady.
You talk of pet projects and NGOs...
Asides her loud stance on issues, what did Madam Patience do differently?

Why do you think Punch Newspapers made this report?

Has she not always funded pet projects and done stuff without using PEJ's office?

Is it not the same Office Turai and those before her used?
Who's fooling who here?
Biko enough of this hypocritical stance and shenanigans.
Madam Patience had her office officially funded by the presidency, she called for security meetings, interfered with official functions within the presidency and ordered ministers and government officials around including maintaining influence with who and who has access to the president officially, this was totally wrong

Nigeria practices federalism like the US does, right? And they have a first lady?

As part of the executive seat, who finances the day to day running of the govt?
PassingShot, even if Aisha is getting govt. stipends, do you think they'd be loud enough to let you in on that?
Given their current stance?

@MediaMan, these things you mention as being totally wrong have to do with the personality of the individual in question.

Mama P has always been the calling - the - shots kind.
Being the wife of a president took its toll and magnified her morale.....and by extension, her office.
This was Jonathan's submission...

I agree that Madam Pat was quite the outspoken kind, especially in the events that led to the elections...
But I see no big deal in holding an office as a first lady.

Mr Buhari's stand was taken at a time when the media was awash with news that negatified PEJ.
It was a gaffe on his part.
He should have simply told his listeners that the office of the first lady will be re-dignified, that it would no longer be characterized by the impunity and verbal recklessness as is being witnessed in this (that) administration.

Case closed.
It's all about correcting the wrongs of the past and consolidating the rights in an effort to build a brighter future.

I thought there wa no office of the "First Lady ". Oh o have forgotten that everything about this government has been propaganda, there is now a change of name, office of the "wife of the president ".

It's not suppose to be a news because we don't expect her to float on air as first lady.

who's funding Aisha's office? What's her day job? Having no official funding for her office makes it even easier to spirit away money without accountability. Which by now only God knows how much has entered their privates purses with the "one man show minister of all ministries" that their family is doing.

You guys are so easily deceived. She could have just jejely accepted the title instead of forming holy Mary humble wife of the president that hates power but somehow is still operating in the capacity of the title she rejected.

You're trying too hard to see something wrong in Aisha occupying the office but you're not answering the key questions.
1. Is the office of First Lady constitutional in our democracy? NO.

2. Should such office be funded through our budget. NO

3. Has Aisha assumed or been addressed as "First Lady"? NO

4. Does she have a right to engage in certain pet projects dear to her heart as the wife of the president? YES

5. Should such projects be funded through our budget? NO

6. Does she have a right as the president's wife to use any office within the Aso Rock Villa for her work? YES.

So, what is/are your issue(s), Miz?

Since you raise the issue of constitution, if I may ask...
On what Constitutional Ground does she have a right to use any office she pleases to? What right does she have to even have an office?
Who is she?
Does our constitution recognise her as " wife of the president?
As far as the constitution is concerned, me and Aisha are on the same level.
It means I have a right to go into Aso Rock and choose the treasury as my working space.

You say there is no "office" of the first lady, yet you're using her officegrin

Such Irony...

She has constututional duties as wife of the president, this is normal, but the wife of the president has no business summoning security meetings, opening an office to influence who sees the president etc. that was the case with the previous government.

why should she have pet projects. That's the job of the First Lady which she's not. She's just the man's wife so she shouldn't concern herself with the affair is Nigerians. She should cook, clean, take days off at the spa to pamper herself and maybe have another baby.

If she doing the same duties past wives of the president did, why isn't she the First Lady. Why not just say she wanted to rename the office instead of saying the office is unconstitutional yet she's carrying on the duties of the office.

So if she wants to receive visitors, what does she do? She has friends, she possibly wants to attend to her personal goals as well. Her office isn't officially recognized in the constitution so consider that place a private business area. I believe that building was not erected by the previous government, it probably was used by previous wives of presidents but then officially designated by PEJ

Stop insinuating and alleging when you have no evidence.

In the past when there was budget for Office of the First Lady we knew about it and not that we relied on conjectures.

Aisha said it during campaigns and interviews she would engage in some pet projects to be funded by NGO's and some other corporate bodies. Do you really think it will be difficult for her to get NGOs and some companies to fund her projects?

Why must she insist on accepting a title her husband vehemently opposed to exist?

The problems with some Nigerians is that they're so used to abnormalities such that any attempt at correcting them is seen as "hypocrisy" or "pretending". This is what you've displayed here.

Physical office (office space) is different from constitutional office (formal/legal role)

Much ado about nothing!

That's a different thing altogether. A First Lady can exceed her boundaries (as do many office holders), so if patience did, it doesn't make the office of the First Lady unconstitutional. What she (Aisha) needs to do is do the right duties of a First Lady. Not say there's no room for the First Lady in the constitution and then go ahead to be one under a different name.

That one was them just buying the public with the opportunity that criticizing PEJ gave them. I saw through it.

What are you saying?
Was Turai not christened "first lady"?

Did she not hold the forte while her husband was away?

The chair PEJ sat on was used by Turai and Stella (of blessed memory), why should Aisha sit there when she has no intention of functioning in their capacity?

Wow! Job of which First Lady? To me, what you call First Lady is Wife of the President here with the difference being that the former is seen as official title even though it's officially wrong while the later is not an official title and not seen as such.

And why can't she have pet projects as the wife of the president? My wife (a nobody by Nigeria's politics) has some "pet projects" (charity) she does.

Again, the difference here is that while such office was funded by our budget in the past, her works will no longer be funded by our budget but her sponsors.

PEJ definitely went out of bounds. Did you remember when she summoned a security meeting at the villa on the Chibok girls issue using her office? The office is not officially recognized in the constitution, I think the media is just making a fuss out of it because the same building was used by the previous first lady, I wanna know where previous wives of presidents like Maryam Babangida and Obasanjo's wives used for their private businesses
