@Op your condition have nothing to do with tour first class. Your condition is irrespective of your class of degree.

Stop discouraging young & hardworking undergraduate students.

Nairalanders hate first class students & it is a shame.

The point exactly is what please?

Better still, kindly tell the specific discipline his/her first class is on as Business Studies looks too open ended.

I smell a rotten fish here. Did you get a first class from all these private universities where firstclass is given to 80 percent of all graduants or did you get it from a renown institution in Nigeria, i.e. UNILAG, UNN, UNIPORT...e.t.c?

Am guessing your answer is no.

You got what was coming to you.

The more you search for job,, the more you are far away from FORBES,,,

Fact:: White collar can turn to black collar at any freaking & unexpected point in time.,,,,

Conclusion-- While you're searching for job,, think rigorously of something you can call your own and be proud of and eventually be an employer of Labour...

Hmmmmm. All this things I read this days about first class not getting a job is frustrating and its almost discouraging someone like me. Thank God I've not allowed myself to be discouraged. Few days ago, I read in the career section where a first class student was lamenting about not being employed for the past two years. Someone's comment up there is also a but scary and others that I've seen and hears of too. But wait, op, before complaining, have you done your Nysc at all? If not, then I guess you shouldn't complain yet.
I graduated in 2014 with a first class also and before my Nysc, the job I got was a 13000 naira teaching job and I was used like 'rain water' but I didn't feel discouraged at all, cos to me, it is an holiday job, tho other teachers in the school were paid such amounts too. But I believe there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I am presently serving. I am preparing to write ielts exam and apply for scholarships. Also I plan to save some money to start a business in case jib no show, tho I don't pray for such. At the same time, I am planning to apply for as much jobs as possible ,submit my CVs on various recruitments portals too. And still if job still no show, I have mapped out some companies I will write letters to, applyin for graduate internship positions.
I hope its not that you have finished serving. And pls lemme tell you, doing masters doesn't guarantee employment. We have seen many like that, but it's always good to do your masters and PhD, just in case the oppurtunity presents itself, especially if you are someone like me who will love to be a lecturer. Presently, the job I would like to have is the type that I will be able to further my studies.
May God bless our hustles.

Yeah you are right. its really pathetic how some nairalnders react to posts on first class not doing better they expect. Anyway, it doesn't freak me. I believe I am VERY EMPLOYABLE. And am used to comments borne out of envy for that class of degree. I don't over react to it.

I graduated in 2014 with a first class degree in business studies. I am 22 and working as a sales assistant in a clothing store. It was meant to be a part-time job for extra income while studying, however, it feels like I am going to be stuck here forever.

I am looking for office roles, in particular admin roles or those to do with HR. I’ve been applying to jobs since I graduated – I either get no response or, once in a blue moon, I get an interview, but it doesn’t end well. Most places I have applied to say I am an introvert and they prefer someone who is more confident in communicating. Or they say I lack work experience.

What I don’t get is how am I able to get work experience when no one gives me a chance? Every job requires some sort of work experience, even internships and entry level jobs. I’ve been to local recruitment agencies, handed them my CV, but it’s been three months and still no reply. I am getting more demotivated and desperate, please can you give me some advice.

Its all about confidence my brother. Just learn to be confident, dress well, speak up. I got a managerial job Las year in a startup with older guys with their MBA degree. I just relaxed and behaved like I was the ish. Confidence goes a long way. Plus try applying to some startup companies, they employ young guys like itself with good pay. Jumia, konga, ACE, Dealdey, can use ur little experience.

You must be LA cram LA pour first-class .... you ain't vibrant, industrious, articulate and skillfully !
Contact JarusHub for some training so as to polish you for labour market .... If you can't present knowledge beyond writing it down, if you can't communicate knowledge then you ain't even good for academic job nor international development agencies ... no commercial enterprises will even recruit you !!!

You need some brush up cuz Ur First-class is only good for urself, out there, you have to demonstrate how you will use your first-class to help their business growth .... Your first-class will bring you many challenges beyond what 2'1/average student will get, You must be prepared and ready to defend yourself !!

Maybe na First-class of private university or state university abi na First-class of Science Discipline ...... if say na social science first-class .... forget am .... we get mouth die !!!

bro the truth is academic excellence while in school does not determine ur success in real practical world. The world you are in now is reality and it requires you fitting into the job roles the way the employer desires as its a case of value in the work place whose objective remains profut making. Your being a first class candidate does not make you the right candidate for jobs as this is not a case of read and pass, but a world of reality where the best hands that would add value ro the business are preferred.

U just graduated and you are at least engaged for now while u r searching for that big timer. So relax. Had a first class from OAU. NYSC was delayed by almost a year so what did I do? Teacher! I started teaching in an agbole sec school until NYSC.
During NYSC in Maiduguri, I taught at Govt Girls Sec Schl, Maiduguri while my colleagues got nice eye catching positions. I no give up.
After NYSC in Lagos, first class no job...got a telemarketing position in a hotel n resort firm at VI, pays below 30k monthly (actually based on commission) n I lived on d mainland. ( I nearly die) . Couldn't bear it anymore I started teaching again making less than 30k. And also doing graphic designs - football schedule designs, church flyers, students magazine, etc as aside. Most importantly, I landed final year projects job things which I started doing for Masters students at Open Uni n Lag Biz School...first project I do na #150k. Gbam! The dude no even flinch. Come introduce me to other colleagues. Soon, I started rolling in their circles. Soon someone introduced me to media and I started working in one of the top 2 newspaper in naija as an entertainment correspondent.
Soon, I started PR branding for the top dudes - Choc guys, EME, etc etc passing nights at EKO hotels, Fed palace, Mega Plaza, Protea, etc n meeting these super stars and romanticing with them at SWE bar, Creek, Marquee, hardly any big show I didn't attend, boutique opening, winery opening, film launching, walkway modelling events, etc etc etc etc all to the glory of baba God. Ibu chineke. Ikira fun baba! ..and now, working in the government of one of d top 5 in the world! Ain't that God!!!

Morale: do not despise the days of your humble beginning and be humble enough to start small. As a first class grad, when I was running from one vendor to the other to sell my world Cup schedule I designed, dem just dey push me around, they yab my head say make I go find work..see fight for ojuwoye market, Mushin, when one no complete my money. I lived in Mushin then...See fight for Mile 2 too...see me dey sweat with veins forming power lines for my fore head. Na me o grin

So surge on bro...hope on...pray on...work on...you ll get there.

Therein lies the problem, which looks like you.

First Class doesn't land anyone automatic job. Part of defending one's degree is acing interview, which, by your account, they don't end well.

KPMG, PwC, EY, Deloitte, Accenture, banks etc recruit every now and then, they don't require any experience.

So funny how the education system does not teach us what it actually takes to survive in the real world.
