What Job Opportunity -engineering Vs Industrial Mathematics by smirhty(op): 5:41am On Aug 20, 2015
Hi, i
scored 250 in my Jamb and i opted for
industrial mathematics.....i took this
decison rather blindly.....people keep asking me why i didnt go for any of the engineering courses instead mathematicshuhwhat i do give as an answer is 'that there are so many engineers already'...but am beginning to have a rethink all i know is the job opportunities for an engineer although not all, but for a mathematician i know just
one which is "lecturing". Please what really does a mathematician have with respect to job opportunities against the engineers... Thanks i appreciate ur reply

My brother no Course is irrelevant.
An industrial mathematics graduate with a 1st class or 2:1 has an edge in d job market over an Engineering graduate with a 2:2.
Several companies recruit any descipline & what dey often consider are grade and age.
Studying mathematics will boost ur numerical skills which will really boost ur scores at job aptitude tests.

So if u are offered Industrial Mathematics make sûre u graduate with at least a 2:1 & dat will boost ur chances of securing a good job.

There are usually more job openings for Engineering positions bt as u rightly pointed out there are numerous engineering graduates hu are to compete for those positions.
I had wanted to study Chemical Engineering bt was offered Geology.Bt at job aptitude tests i competed with mostly engineers. Mathematics graduates work in several sectors: Banking, Telecoms, Oil & Gas,Auditing firms, manufacturing etc. Just do ur self d good of graduating with at least a 2:1.

Success in ur PUME.

I'm in need of your advice sir, I'm currently in a huge dilemma. I was given Industrial Mathematics but I put electrical engineering in my jamb.

I want to transfer but from what I am seeing the process might not work out for me, should I try or just stick with my course?

If mechanical or electrical engineering, i will give you this advise today, except you have connections to get jobs, you can go for mathematics. But if you will have to look for jobs yourself. My guy there r more opening for those two engineering degree than your mathematics that u will end up teaching a private secondary school for 25k. Let me tell you , worst come to worst. Within few years of graduation you make a good living out of engineering. Get brain. No follow student or corpers the reason . I tell you this because i have first hand information.

If the process of changing the course is very difficult, just stay with Industrial Mathematics. It is a very good course.
